America: Write Your Own History

Question, who is the one who is suspected of creating those extra accounts anyways?

*sigh. No one said anything about changing democracy and also, I'm the only one who asked his condition! You didn't now did you?

I can read the news. He's paralyzed.

This is Rob Johnson reporting:
Rumors of a communist uprising on the streets have spooked many citizens. Local gun stores reported a "large increase" of customers looking to arm themselves. Also, banks and grocery stores have reported a large increase of customers looking for large quantities of food and money.

let me dissuade such lies and reveal the truth

i have recently bought many things like food and guns so as to do Guerrilla fighting in the German state to aid the American war effort, all communist uprisings i know of as of now are peaceful, and involve only signs and small, plush ponies to give to poor working class little girls who are forced to live on the street do to our corrupt capitalist society

Question, who is the one who is suspected of creating those extra accounts anyways?

I would comment my thoughts, but I don't want to start a flame war.

I asked before the news came out. You don't care about his health, you just want death to communists! And that news post! It shows that the capitalists do more damage than the communists!

July 1918: Hardings and Wilsonians Imprison Communist Activists!

haymarket.jpg

Reimer, the Socialist Labor activist who nearly won the 1916 election, was sentenced to prison on ten counts of sedition for ten years. The Socialist Labor Party has been officially outlawed and passed through the Democratic controlled Congress, gaining support from both conservative and liberal factions in the party. Eugene V. Debs, former president and Socialist leader, has refused to comment on the recent instability of the nation.

When taken to the Supreme Court, the Reimer vs United States court examined relations with assassination attempts, voter fraud, treason, and obstruction of military drafting. Reimer's attitude of respect and gratitude for communist activists did not help his case. Charles E. Ruthenberg, leading communist activist, led a parade of rioters in the July Riots of 1918. When the rioters met Victory Liberty Loan workers who demanded they lowered their flags, fights quickly broke out and sent Cleveland, Ohio into violent disorder. Ruthenberg's communist headquarters was soon stormed by anti-communists and sacked. Military reserves from Chicago soon came to restore order, with 2 killed, 40 injured, and 116 arrested.

This protest led to a banning of red flags during demonstrations, and was one of the first signals of the beginning of the Red Scare.

wait, so are we not allowed to vote now :(

You know, perhaps things might have been better had Eugene V. Debs gone for another term

I'm voting regardless! I will vote until the cows come home! Communist cows :)

Nope, there is a crackdown on communist radicals and their sympathizers, with several Socialist Labor senators and congressmen being arrested as well. Many are flooding back into the Socialist Party, giving it birth. This is causing a lot of trouble for Eugene V. Debs though, as his party is being hijacked by radicals.

I am a moderate liberal. At first, I was reluctant about Debs being elected president, but when I saw that a moderate socialist is not entirely bad, I joined the moderate socialists. However much I think the poor are oppressed by the rich (which they are and I will fight with my pen or with my words on the Congress floor until that oppression ends) I disagree with both the extent of the radical socialists' views and some of their means to accomplish these goals.

The first thing I read was that Wilson had been shot and was paralyzed.
(OOC: I was at school during this whole Wilson hullabaloo and I didn't have my iPad at school, so I didn't know about this until after I got home from school.)

so, i can still vote for the socialist party? or is everyone who voted for Reimer banned from the next election?

Ok wait let me derail this for a second. Why do so many people still have school???

Any who. This sucks. I want to vote

THE TEXT ABOVE IS MEANT TO BE A JOKE TO BRIGHTEN THE SPIRITS OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY. I AM NOT SERIOUSLY SUGGESTING AN ARMED REVOLUTION! THANK YOU FOR NOT TAKING THAT SERIOUSLY AND SENDING ME TO JAIL

I believe we are still allowed to vote, just not for the Social Labor party and probably not the Communist party either

OOC: We got a billion snow days from this winter tacked onto the end of the school year in the American East Coast. School was going to end on the 18th, but it's been pushed back to the 25th because we have to have exactly 180 days, even if we do absolutely nothing on the last 3 because they're after finals.

Same applied for me. In fact, I was under the assumption that the man had been killed until I read a few posts back. Thank God he hadn't, or we may still be facing Communist radicals now.

Ever since the development of "moving pictures" in the early 1890s, and especially since the construction of Hollywood, the American film industry has become the largest film industry in the world. Westerns romanticizing America's expansionist and pioneer past, war dramas depicting the recent Edwardian wars and the not-so-recent Great and Victorian Wars, and political dramas focusing on the intrigue of American politics were among the most popular genres. However, film is not without controversy. In 1912, for instance, the movie "Cheese Curls," considered the first romantic comedy ever to be made, garnered massive controversy over its "nudity" (which at that time consisted of a woman baring her thighs and shoulders) and for its implicitly sexual subject matter.

However, the effect of that movie would be overshadowed by the 1915 film "The Birth of a Nation." Filmed by D. W. Griffith, it featured a number of astonishing special effects, the foremost being the inclusion of sound. (A previous movie, "The Ragtime Singer," also featured sound, but it was only fifteen minutes; "The Birth of a Nation" is considered the first full-length talkie.) However, it portrayed the Ku Klux Klan, which terrorized the black community after the Civil War and the abolition of slavery, in a heroic light, helping defend good Southern families against the agitating forces of bumbling carpetbaggers, traitorous scalawags, and barbaric, almost sub-human freedmen. Unsurprisingly, it was popular in the South, while it caused outrage among many Northerners, especially Socialists. (Note that this was more about the film's depiction of Northern whites more than its depiction of blacks.)

220px-Birth_of_a_Nation_theatrical_poster.jpg

In 1918, President Woodrow Wilson personally invited Griffith to the White House for a screening of "The Birth of a Nation." This action highlighted Wilson's racism, which he harbored from being raised in Virginia. His most prominent display of racism before the screening was his segregation of the races in public office. However, the screening made his racism an important factor for him in the political and public scene, dividing pro- and anti-equal-rights Americans further down the rabbit hole.

The most prominent example of a "resurgence" in racism could be the revival of the KKK, which started with the release of "Birth of a Nation" in 1915. Though it was originally formed in Tennessee after the end of the Civil War, it was mainly an underground movement that focused on blacks and anti-slavery whites. Being the largest obstacles to Reconstruction, Lincoln and the Republican Congress enacted several Force Bills during Lincoln's third term, which essentially destroyed it as an organization. The final blow came with the Anti-Racism Act of 1885, which outright banned the KKK by name and provided for federal enforcement; said act was repealed by the Democrat-controlled Congress in 1901.

While the film is the most cited cause of the KKK's resurgence, said resurgence was more of a result of the economic downturn that marked the end of the American "Golden Age." Large numbers of Americans lost their jobs, and many of them blamed American business for hiring cheaper African American and immigrant labor. This, interestingly enough, resulted in substantial numbers of racists joining the Socialist parties, despite Wilson's ban. Unlike the first KKK, the second KKK was a nativist movement; it targeted Catholics and Jews, who came in large numbers from Southern and Eastern Europe at this time. (The racism against blacks remained unchanged, however.) By the end of 1918, the KKK numbered one million people for the first time. Interestingly enough, the state with the largest number of Klansmen was the definitely-Northern state of Indiana.

I'm in college and I have finals. I'm heading over to take my Arabic final in three hours. I got big plans for this story though, and might even be able to have the 1920 election in the next few hours.

And Atlantic, that was fantastic and a great addition to the story. You even worked in the alternate histories.

I do not condone the acts of Senator "Oppression" from New Jersey. We are a nation of the free. We cannot oppress people because of what they believe. This makes us no better than the Kaisers across the pond. We must uphold every citizen's rights to the fullest extent. If we oppress them then we give them a reason to be extreme. The Senator is creating the radicals he talks about. He is feeding the machine! I do not agree with everything the communists like CaterpillarKing, Moai_Spammer, and DKVM but they are still American citizens. SO treat them like one! We must get rid of treasonous leaders and put in ones who will uphold the constitution be it they are capitalist or communist.

-George H. Willerton, Provincial Leader of American Australia

You know, I wonder if this Red Scare could possibly spark a Second Civil War.
Note, I am not suggesting to start one.
