America: Write Your Own History

may i add another condition

The USSA will become a Trotskyist State with some capitalist rights and limited free market for a period of 2 decades (can be renewed)

Leave that to the electorate, but I will add a clause on an interim government.

1944: Collapse of the Browder Administration

As German tanks blasted through American buildings, defeat seemed certain. Wave after wave, the German military continued fire and bombardment. Reports came in that Germans had taken over key ports north of Boston, such as Halifax and Quebec City. Japan had taken Seattle and Salt Lake City, and continued to push east. Mexico had recently conquered California and states south of Nevada. Italy had arrived to the war to take Puerto Rico as an Italian territory. Peru and Mexico split up the remaining Latin American cities that the USSA still controlled. Sweden had surrendered to Nazi Germany. With all of this, the Chancellor still demanded full faith in both himself and the Party, and with the Germans being repelled from New York, Boston, and Browderville, he proudly proclaimed that the nation will have a comeback.

Chancellor Browder, greying and gaining substantial weight, had relied on his nuclear arsenal in Chicago to save him from absolute defeat. Germany then approached the Communist Party with offers for peace, and an invitation to a conference held in Moscow that would end the war. The haggard Chancellor accepted and stalled on the nuclear attacks.

Newspapers began flooding the streets proclaiming the end of the war. Streets cheered, and even SESTAP officers threw off their hats in celebration.

Conference of Moscow

Meeting in Moscow during the beginning of summer, Axis, Commonwealth, and the USSA sat together and outlined an end to the war. Japan was vicious, declaring that it has no intentions of reducing the lands it has captured -- it even went as far as to claim everything west of Chicago! The threat was dropped, and a brief shouting match about how the USSA could stop Japanese from crossing the Rocky Mountains broke out. After tensions had cleared, it was decided that Japan will keep their American territories, and will be given access to some military technology.

Peace with the Commonwealth was bittersweet. Winston Churchill came before the conference and expressed his passion about his country and his Queen. He stated that Nazi Germany is an evil war machine that must be stopped, and will be stopped with the help of the good in the world. Churchill refused to accept peace treaties with Germany, stating he will keep fighting until Britain is under British rule again. However, Earl Browder and Winston Churchill did reach an agreement on English-American peace, with Australia giving financial aid to America via the United Front.

Finally, Nazi Germany's benefits from the treaty was tremendous. Avoiding a war with Russia, Germany had liberated both St. Petersburg (properly named Nyenschanz, and renamed Leningrad after the treaty) and Moscow. This avoided a war, and brought the nations closer together. However, the argument about how Turkey would be dealt with (a mutual enemy) was still a point of controversy.

Then dealing with the USSA, Germany saw no need to be nice. America had started the war, and the Chancellor was almost unanimously unpopular. Germany had also captured most of Quebec, and was still threatening to the core of America. After hours of negotiation, it was settled that Germany would receive all of Canada in exchange for peace and non-intervention in the government. Mexico also agreed to these terms, and further states that lands taken by Mexico would stay Mexican (south of Denver and west of the Mississippi). Several nations at this point asked what would be done about the dictatorship of America. With the United Front not present at the meeting, the Communist Party spoke on behalf of the nation when they said "The people want the Chancellor and the Party, and they will keep it."

Burning of Browderville

Following the conference, the United Front immediately began taking control of the government. With little resistance, within a week most the nation was no longer the control of the Chancellor. With the last loyalists concentrating around Browderville, top military generals who supported the United Front began preparation for the final assault in the ruins of Washington. A declaration was made that, when the United Front takes Browderville, an interim government will be established and the Whitmeyer Compromise will be put into effect. It was important to note that the first area the United Front took over was Chicago in order to secure the nuclear weapons and disarm them.

With artillery pointed at eachother and soldiers in place, top general Eisenhower ordered the assault. With explosions left and right, soldiers rushed at eachother with weapons in their hand. As tanks rolled past, the initial skirmish of armored vehicles commenced. The United Front had less advanced tanks, but more dedicated personnel. Furthermore, the Communist Party's tanks were worn down from the war, and morale was low. As standing forces met, the thick fog of warfare covered the battleground; corpses lied behind every turn, and the distant sound of gunfire once again sounded alien.

Halfway through the battle it was becoming apparent that the Communist Party and the Chancellor had lost. An attempt of assassination against the Chancellor failed, but broke the Chancellor into deep paranoia. Fleeing to his secure bunker, the Communist Party defensive was broken and routed. The United Front began dowsing the Browderville buildings with oil and setting them ablaze, and the large statue of Earl Browder was torn down with a tremendous applause. Televised, the United Front generals declared the end to the dictatorship, an end to the USSA, and a resurrection of the true United States of America. Dragging Earl Browder out of his bunker, cameras were pushed in his face and rocks were thrown. Browder was brought to an undisclosed location to await prosecution. With recognition from the world as the legitimate government, the USSA had officially dissolved.

"Salvation at last. America deserves it."

-Logan Whitmeyer, from his command center in Houston, upon hearing the news of Earl Browder's arrest.

OOC: RT, are people like Stanley Bruce and Woodrow Wilson now looked back upon in a more positive note?

EDIT: Also RT, love the new avatar. ;)

1) I doubt you'd be in Houston as it was lost to fanatical Catholic, fascist Mexico.
2) Stanley Bruce and Woodrow Wilson are still just as controversial; but at least you're allowed to talk about them now.

I am in complete shock. While the end of the war is a monumental success, we face an even larger effort now: the effort to rebuild the USA and recreate a nation ravaged by war and domestic self destruction.

-Michael Linz, Washington DC: March 7th, 1944.

Houston was serving as a temporary base of operations of the United Front. Whitmeyer and others stuck behind to finish the transfer back into the U.S.

Just as I made a deal with the fascist nations of Europe, so too did I make a deal with Mexico, at least until I could return to Washington, DC. I must say, my campus was at least partially intact, for what it's worth.

It is a glorious day in America as Browder has finally been defeated. Now we must rebuild the US to her former glory.

OOC: Anyone else think the stage is set for another world war?

It is great news that the Browderist "chancellorship" has fallen, and that freedom has been restored in America.

Officially returning to the USA, and just the USA, not the USSA or CDA, South Africa will rejoin the union. All we wish is that we will be divided in states, and that I, J.B.M. Hertzog will be the governor of at least South Africa (the area where the country is in actual Africa).

Glad to have reached peace, and restored freedom and happiness, we will aid America in its reconstruction after these troubles.

Signed J.B.M. Hertzog, Cape Town on January 7th, 1944

With the USSA dissolved at last the Trotskyists now proclaim the United Front ended as well, with it once again being the 4th International. It will be rebased in Washington and continue with all action to reform the United States into a Utopia

Workers of the World, Unite once more!

How could we have lost that bit of America??

It was fun working with you while it lasted. Guess it's back to the old Capitalist VS Communist stuff now. However we do have one thing left on our plates though. The trial of Earl Browder.

South Africa Votes to Rejoin America

With the war settling down for America, the majority of South Africans looked forward to the discussion on whether or not to rejoin the United States. South Africa had produced the majority of soldiers fighting on Britain's side during the World War, and as the territory voted on the referendum, Churchill used the large English forces in the region to both reinforce the Indian offensive and reclaim the British Isles. Churchill did state, however, that the former Portuguese and German colonies in Africa would not be up for voting, as they were conquered under the Commonwealth's administration and they provide key uranium and diamonds for the Commonwealth.

Those who did not join Churchill's war effort, or immigrated to other Commonwealth nations, were left to decide the fate of the South African territories. With a large referendum and an 80% turnout, the region narrowly voted to rejoin America (56%). This doubled the size of the crippled United States, and doubled the population. The region would provide needed metals and key economic resources during the Interim Years.

Also I would like to state that I honestly think the dividing of the US will put us on the path towards another World War in the future. I predict it will be no less then twenty years before the world plunges into chaos again as we try to regain lost territory.

OOC: 1 internet cookie to anyone who can guess what famous quote i'm somewhat referencing here.

I would like to bring Earl Browder into the national courtroom for justice to be dealt. I will be the judge for this trial and the jury will consist of twelve jurors. These jurors will consist of both capitalists and communists to ensure fairness. Once Browder's administration falls we shall court martial him. He will be arrested and brought before the full power of the US Justice Department. I now proclaim Earl Browder to be a criminal. He will be brought to the courtroom on multiple accounts of treason, thousands of accounts of murder, seventy-eight proven accounts of lying to the general public, and the allowance of the brutal killing of millions of innocent protesters. He shall be brought to justice. The court will not be open to the public and Browder will not be allowed to be harassed by any bystanders. We need him alive for the trial. Once I come back from my exile in Brazil I shall retake my courtroom and the trial will commence.

-Robert F. Colkier, Chief Judge of the United States of America

Cooperative Socialism Charter of 1944
Section 1
All Americans are created equal. Whether ideology, gender, race, age, or other determining factor no man or woman is above another in the eyes of the law. This being said, the sending of troops or police of any form to a protest where no weapons are used but the crowd has caused much collateral damage are not allowed to unholster any weapons and it is illegal for weapons to be fired at the crowd unless they are deemed to be non-lethal weapons. Any protests that have caused no damage monetarily are in no away allowed to be suppressed. The freedom of speech is allowed and in no way shape or form can be taken away. Nor can any other civil liberties outlined in the Bill of Rights created by the forefathers of this fair nation after secession from the British Empire. Speaking ones mind in any way so long as it does not give out national technological or militaristic secrets is not against any law and are to be judged by the Supreme Court is deemed possibly guilty.

Section 2
No amendment under the original Bill of Rights can be rewritten, changed, destroyed, or otherwise tampered in any way, shape, or form. To make laws more difficult to be changed, added, or removed, all changes must be presented to the Supreme Court. The judges are chosen by the president but must be accepted by 2/3 of both Houses of Congress. To further give the president less power, if the capitol building is destroyed then Congress will convene in an undisclosed, even to the president, underground building so that there is no chance for an act of terrorism to occur again.

Section 3
No party can hold presidency more than four terms unless the populous wants them to in a majority rules voting election. The president in power cannot suspend any laws, amendments, or other rules in the written books unless Congress supports the decision in an election where 2/3 is needed to suspend any written laws. Impeachment of a president can be obtained by 3/4 of the populous of America voting in favor of the impeachment occurring. The president cannot call martial law under any circumstances and a State of Emergency in an area any larger than half a state must be approved by the Supreme Court to judge if it is constitutional. State of Emergency entails no firing upon civilians if they have broken no laws besides the curfew but detainment in regulated prisons under international law is allowed.

Section 4
Our ultimate goal, is to strive to create a society founded on the ideals of Cooperative Socialism, that is to create a society of freely associating individuals who would control their economic, political and social destiny. To this extent, we will formulate such policies, which provide for the highest possible guarantee to the citizens of America, to protect their freedom of speech, their economic well being and cultural advancement. We will achieve this, by expanding upon welfarist policies forumulated under Debs, by creating a system of governance which shall be a direct democracy where the people would decide questions of economic and political policy through national referendums, and by replacing private monopoly corporations and state monopoly corporations with massive cooperatives where the workers would determine through democratic management, the affairs of the cooperative.

Section 5
No foreign nation is allowed to hold land on American soil. Belligerents must leave immediate. If the nation refuses then there shall be an immediate buildup of troops to retake the lands that were once America. These lands include all of North America above the Mexican border before the Mexican Incursion. One nation at a time shall be kicked out. The vital lands of the original 48 are the main target. America a sovereign nation and no land that is American shall be held by anyone else.

This Charter is for the future development of America and the reconstruction after the miserable failure of the Browder administration and to ensure this does not happen again.

Provisional Government Elections of 1944

As the United Front and anti-Browderists retake the nation and proclaim an end to the dictatorship and the USSA, a need for a temporary government was clearly seen. The constitution, the Bill of Rights, even the capital were all out of order. With debates opening up in New York City (temporary capital), officials debates on who to elect as Provisional Governor until elections could be held once again. The Provisional Governor has absolute power, with expectations to reconstruct America and reinstate democracy. Impeachment is constantly a fear of the Provisional Governor.

Harold Stassen, Age 37, Minnesota politician and Naval Commander. Seeing a need to defend the nation while improving its standing in the world, he wishes to improve stability, focus on the United Nations, and expand the military without intervening in politics.
Spoiler :

Thomas E. Dewey, Age 42, Governor of New York. Proclaiming a root in rural America, he has stated he "works like a horse five days and five nights a week so I have the privilege of getting to the country on the weekend." He came to prominence when he was elected head of the New York Police in 1935. He became a hero for his fight against corruption and the mafia's violence. He earned the nickname "The Gangbuster." When elected governor, he doubled education funding and reduced debt by $100 million. If elected, he will expand civil rights, freedom, education, and foreign diplomacy. Also, as a large supporter of the death penalty, he promises to have Earl Browder publicly hanged.
Spoiler :

Douglas MacArthur, Age 64, Chief of Staff of the Army. A leading general against Australia and Japan, he ultimately was demoted after the defeat of the Pacific fleet and was captured by Japanese forces in the Philippines. Released during prisoners of war exchanges, he now promises to restrengthen the American military with ultimate aims to regain the western coast. He supports restarting the nuclear program to intimidate Germany and Japan, and he is strongly opposed against communism.
Spoiler :

Wendell Willkie, Age 52, industrial lawyer. A liberal and an internationalist, he wishes to oversee the expansion of American businesses and the securing of needed resources such as aluminum. He wants to focus on diplomacy, civil rights, business, and stability. Strongly opposed to imperialism and colonization.
Spoiler :

Norman Thomas, Age 60, protestant minister, socialist activist, and pacifist. After refusing to combine the Socialist Party with the Communist Party, Thomas was imprisoned by Browder and served nearly a decade in the Appalachian concentration camps. Before his arrest, he ran as the supposed heir to Debs. Returning to politics, he wishes to reinstate Eugene V. Debs-Era policies and the original Bill of Rights and Constitution until the people are ready to vote on changing them. Opposes the right to own firearms, stating that the Bill of Rights refers to military militia. Reluctantly supports helping Britain fight against Nazi Germany, but not without exhausting all possible diplomatic routes.
Spoiler :

Dwight D. Eisenhower, Age 52, Five Star General and military leader of the United Front. Led the army that defeated Browderist troops in Browderville. Organized the convention that would elect the Provisional Governor. Promises to restore order, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and diplomatic and military standing in the world. Opposes nuclear weapons and wants to focus on stopping their production.
Spoiler :

George Marshall, Age 63, Army Chief of Staff. Helped with military production and tactics. Wants to focus on restrengthening America's military and economy while supporting friendly, democratic nations. Wants to see a restoration in the world's economy, and use espionage to topple fascist governments. Wants to use diplomacy and espionage to regain the former states.
