A world without nuclear weapons would be less stable and more dangerous for all of us.

Compromise Leads to Cold War

tvlady.gif

Fear. Fear strikes the hearts of everyone as they hear these words: Nuclear warfare. For decades the world has been conservative, secretive, about nuclear arms. But in the wake of great superpowers, superpowers bent on world domination, they are increasingly dangerous.

Vincent Hallinan, Progressive President, joined office at a great time in American history: The Roaring 50s. Color film was becoming mainstream, rock and roll was developing, and the rebellious teen culture was emerging. The economy was flourishing, with people buying new, shiny cars with powerful revving engines. Liberty was at its highest point, and everyone had a sense of national pride. President Hallinan, capitalizing on this, also had an obligation to expand the espionage system in accordance with the deal made with the Republican Party.

The expanded espionage program, the CIA, quickly took charge of the Cold War. With large influence and power, President Hallinan and his cabinet agreed that the CIA was necessary to both defeat autocracy, liberate the people, keep the American people safe, all while enjoying peace-times and high approval ratings. Focusing on Japan, Mexico, Germany, and Russia, Hallinan wanted infiltration of the Mexican concentration camps and instability in the Mexican-occupied regions of the southwest. But the violent under-currents of this developed into the Cold War, where superpowers battled each other in the shadows with the ultimate goal of total surrender. Gradually, and I mean gradually, American society began realizing this development.

Make Them Stronger

With the largest military budget since the Communist Regime, the American military quickly grew to local prominence. Mexican airplanes were more hesitant to fly over American military bases, and Hallinan had a stern position on stating to the National Synarchist Union that America plans to stand its ground against the fascist, totalitarian Mexican government and their inquisition.

Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend

Halfway through the Hallinan Administration, imports became significantly more expensive. Larger and larger portions of the American economy were then spent funding oppressive Japanese labor mines in the Himalayas, or slave-labor in the Russian gulags. Eventually the point came where this instantaneously impacted the American economy, leading to a recession and a rise in unemployment. The people demanded to know; why is this economic recession happening? Why are imports becoming so expensive?

The Axis Dissolves

Portugal was not in a good state. The fight against Germany was becoming disastrous as the once famous Portuguese offensive-push failed to take the small German bases still present in Spain. Portugal, controlled by a benevolent yet unyielding dictator, began breaking down into political squabble. In an act to restore order, Portugal reached out to Japan for assistance against Germany. The offer was sweet. Risky, but rewarding. Although shouted and condemned by Germany at every step, Japan declared that Portugal had joined the Greater Japanese union and that the Emperor will formally declare war against the Third Reich.

Empires Regain Colonies

As war between Japan and Germany broke up, the desperate clinging to larger powers began. The Congolese nations, afraid of Italian or French intervention, joined the Commonwealth of Nations. President Hallinan, disappointed in his failure to secure the Congo as an American territory, nevertheless congratulated his close friend Britain.

Hallinan's Policies

Troubles were abundant. Segregation was returning to both the southern states and South Africa. Another world war was brewing, with threats of nuclear warfare. The American military was weak, and unable to deploy military intervention without fear of Mexican invasion. The new wave of congressmen, Republicans, fiercely blocked most of Hallinan's bills. Even more disastrous was when information was leaked that Hallinan traded American weapon-grade uranium to Brazil to make corporate merchandise cheaper for American purchase. How could he do this at a time like this?! shouted senators and representatives. The media turned against the laid-back Hallinan, blaming him for only feeding the fire of the rapidly progressing nuclear war.

Inevitably Towards...

dr-strangelove-still-580.jpg

And as the world becomes more rigid, more rigid, and more rigid, borders become wastelands. The addiction for power, the addiction for murder and total victory defeats our want for humanity and the drive for conquest kicks in. Bullets are not enough! They are weak! They only pierce such a small region in only one person! Stronger, more powerful weapons were needed! FIRE! Nuclear weapons are dropped from the sky, killing millions and declaring to the world "YES! I AM ALPHA! I AM OMEGA! I AM DESTRUCTION!" Khrushchev, Chairman of the Communist Party of Russia, states that the rise of communism is upon us again, and that the liberation of humanity will once and for all be settled. People in Lithuania, witnessing the god-like destruction of the atomic bomb, hide deep under ground to secure their precious lives.

Controversial Law Passed in South Africa!

Recently in South Africa and in the southern US there have been troubles with racism and segregation among the people. There have been signs that dictate things similar to "only white people are allowed to eat here" popping up around businesses in places like Cape Town and Salisbury.

1943_Colored_Waiting_Room_Sign.jpg

Segregationist business sign at a doctor's office, Salisbury

There are many who are against these acts, and are boycotting and fighting businesses that promote these tactics, and are speaking out against the South African governor, Daniel Malan, imploring him to do something about this.

Malan, unfortunately, was slightly racist himself, and did not answer these cries of the people that were begging to end segregation and make it illegal. Instead, Malan decided to contact his family, friends, and coworkers and discuss what to do.

Daniel Malan, meeting with friends and their children

When he had returned from his meetings, he ended up getting mixed messages from everyone he had conversed with.

In the end, his slight racism got the best of him, and he made it legal to segregate against poc, and made it fineable to prevent people from conducting business with segregationist business owners.

Some are in support of this new law, and others are protesting against it. Many are forming unions against state and federal government, asking them to end this movement of segregation (or "apartheid" as it is being called), and promote equality.

Harriman

Harriman. Now is not a time to squabble over things like socialism, we must rebuild America then we can squabble.

Neu-tra-lity! Neu-tra-lity! Neu-tra-lity! Neu-tra-lity! Neu-tra-lity! Yeaaaahhhh!!!!

Oh and RT, make sure you see the difference between Hallinan and Harriman because the latter is getting alot of votes

How long has it been since we've had a Democrat for president anyway?

Woodrow Wilson, 1916-1920
Belva Anna Lockwood and George Dewey, (Liberal Democrats), 1900-1904
Franklin Pierce, 1852-1856
Lewis Cass, 1844-1848
Andrew Jackson, 1832-1840

Youch. Considering who the last Democrat President was, I can definitely see why one hasn't been elected in about 40 years.

Hallinan

Honestly there is no candidate there that has a truly solid plan. Many have some interesting points, but some uninteristing ones too. It's a shame none of them have at least a policy I wouldn't like. So whatever.

But Hallinan is the only one to have no policy I disliked.

I voted for Hallinan because he's the only candidate who promises to stay neutral. Honestly people, we need to re-solidify our own powerbase before we can be involved in what is likely to be another World War. We aren't moral crusaders. The USA in RL tries to act like that and it hasn't gotten us very far (though sometimes I wonder if that's the real reason we're in the war in the first place).

Well in RL the outcome of the wars are much worse than in the game. We need to retake America and a peaceful way would be best.
