Dawn of Russians

Ugh, I'm too late to claim Kiev.

I would like to join please, but alas, your signature lied to me as there is no Duchy unclaimed.

I'll join if there is ever a Duchy of Thrake.

If you could produce a worker in my city, that would be smashing :D

Yeah, I should say "unregistered". You can still participate as member of the royal council. Moreover, you can request an unsettled duchy. If I like the idea I will train a settler for you. Even if I don't like the idea, you can persuade an other duke to train your settler. Russia is destined to control many cities.

I'll join if there is ever a Duchy of Thrake.
Do you mean conquering Constantinopolis?

If you could produce a worker in my city, that would be smashing :D
Uglish has already trained a worker, and he is building a farm in SW of Uglish.

Crier's speech:
Military occupation of Kiev is over! Tha grand Duke anoints lord Matthias I duke of Kiev.

Kievan rebel forces continue their resistence in the following years surprising Ivan. Ivan ordered the construction of road connection between Moscow and Kiev, so that he can send troops. Half mounted units died in the partisan wars of 1012AD.

A chinese explorer reached Caricyn from the east. Unfortunately no good deal could be done with the foreigners.

In 1027AD Ivan recognised the state of Poland. Casimir was friendly, so both states signed a trade partnership. This gave a small boost in economy and consolidation of control over the area.

Spain discovered us in 1030AD. Spain was fanatic of papacy, so no deal could be signed.

The continuous Kievan resistence made Moscovian commanders in Kiev to develop advanced warfare technics. Ivan hoped this would stop Kievan rebels.

The floods of Moskva river were disastrous. All routes east of Moskwa were completely destroyed.

Kievans rebelled again in 1087AD. Moscovians managed to keep Kiev, but the rest of mounted army died in combat. Ivan had no choice but to to send Caricyn Longbows to defend Kiev.

The Kievan rebellions weakend Muscovy so much that western kingdom asked tribute. Ivan realised that his royal council was right, he should train an army. But Ivan wanted to discover advanced mounted weaponry first.

England and Germans discovered Muscovy in 1108AD. They were friendly so they opened their borders.

The navy was trained as duke Bigfoot wished. Ivan ordered to develop the city.

Like Chinese Koreans discovered Muscovy from the east. They were the least developped state that time, so Ivan agreed in an unfair deal. Koreans couldn't stand their lack and collapsed. In this parallel universe Russian aesthetic is inspired by Korea and not Byzantium.

The strong bond between Byzantium and Muscovy brought their nobilities together. Byzantine-Moscovian marriages were a common event that era.

Although the Grand Duchy was strong and influencial in eastern Europe, the rest of the world considered us not civilised enough! This will change in the future.

Kievans conducted a partisan war again in 1156AD. This time Kievan defences were well prepared and crashed rebels without losses.

At last our scholars managed to discover advanced mounted weaponry as it was ordered some 200 years ago.

The close relations between Muscovy and Byzantium paid off. Our orthodox brothers shared their discoveries with us and we did the same.

However, this large technology breakthroughs spread new ideas among the empire. People wanted changed in our economic and political system! They disputed the dukes and even the Grand Duke!

Discovery of guilds brought a new power in Muscovy. Merchants want to form trade unions, known in the west as "guilds". Guilds will regulate markets on their own instead of local dukes.

Discovery of civil service brought the opportunity to develop a strong bureaucracy. Close friends of Grand Duke believe he doesn't need to share his duchy in smaller duchies.

Through byzantine literature people learnt about ancient city-states. Some of them want to overthrown the grand Duke and establish this form of government.

This era is really difficult for Muscovy. People among Muscovy want political changes. However, there are so many opportunities that any citizent wants a different system! What will sun see above the lands of Muscovy the next years? Aw, let god enlight us.

Through byzantine literature people learnt about ancient city-states. Some of them want to overthrown the grand Duke and establish this form of government. (You participate as citizents of cities. Two or more can be citizents of the same city. The control of each city will be decided on city-level elections among their citizents. Only citizents of this city can vote. I will keep control of techs, diplomacy and uncontrolled cities for practical reasons. Dukes will be asigned as citizents of their cities respectively).

Revolution fractions:
The fate of the revolution will be decided via triple(!) elections. Join the side in any of the following dilemmas:

Economy:

Antiunionists (Self-Sufficiency)
Unionists (Guilds: +1:gold: per specialist, +1:hammers: per workshop)

Organisation:
Aristocraticists (Vassalage: +2XP in new units, +2:) by castle, +stability per vassal)
Absolutists (Absolutism: +40%:hammers: and :commerce: in capital)

Government:
Monarchists (Dynasticism: +1:) per unit stationed, caped at 4)
Democrats (City-states: +1:food: per specialist in cities that work at most 7 land tiles, +100% maintainance)

Note that there are stability effects also.

Ok I'll make the start to show how it works.

I am Unionist, Aristocracist and Monarchist.

Can those who still don't have 1.12 please get a description of those civics' effects?

Guilds are not trade unions. Merchants, unlike workers, cannot be trusted to govern themselves.

If I have a vote, I am Antiunionguilds, Aristocracist and Monarchist.

No particular reason for the other two. I think Vassalage is probably a step in the right direction, but I don't see the city-state model as appropriate for Russia, which at this time needs all the unifying it can get.

Added the effects in the post.

I may misused the name "trade union". But in that era merchants were both the labours and the owners of their products.

I am a Unionist, Aristocraticist and Monarchist. Guilds are the future, but the rest can stay as it is.

Unionists
Absolutists
Monarchists

Unionist, Aristocratist, Democrats

Current situation:
Spoiler :

Cursor is above Moscow.

Duke Bigfoot: Training a navy will keep Sankt-Peterburg undevelopped. Maybe it is better to let Sankt-Peterburg to grow before train any unit. In some years it will grow a fat cross including cows in the west. Note that your city doesn't own any worker (the worker near the city right now are road-builders).

Duke Caterpillar: You didn't gave any orders to your citizents, so I order them at will.

Duke TheNood: Barracks and the farm are completed.

Royal council:

We have one unclaimed duchy, Kiev. Right now it is under military occupation.
I want to train 9 experienced mounted units. By "experienced" I mean the city must have built barracks and stables. At least 3 of them will be trained in Moscow, any volunteers?

Sorry i'm a bit late. I was gone this weekend. If building the navy will leave the city underdeveloped cut it down to the galley before improving the city.
