México: ¡Tierra y Libertad!

I think many people left more for Moai's, Caterpillar's, DKVM's, Noob's and I don't remember the other 1 or 2 that spammed the thread with so many things, then because Browder took as dictator. I remember it was exactly because of that event that Mrrandomplayer, Noob, Moai, Lord Bigfoot, pliped, Greek and some more started those roleplaying interesting events, while before the commies we were almost restricted to voting. The story got a lot more interesting when the commies took over (although I was against them). It's a shame we lost due to stability.

The commies WAS interesting. But many people left one or two more updates. And plus, a normal dictatorship wouldn't be very popular

I did apologize for that. I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize the debate had gotten so long. BTW, it was mostly me, CK, and Random who did the accidental debate spam.

Yeah that was accidental.. But I don't think MANY people left.

We didn't cause them to leave. RT just wasn't writing at the time so they had no reason to post.

Preparations

The move to take Texas had to be quick. President Mina gave Secretary of War Santa Anna express powers to make the war as quick and painless as possible. He promised his president he would get peace quickly, but not necessarily painlessly. Anna ordered General Barragan's troops to gather two more regiments from Monterrey and Guadalajara. Before any war was to be officially declared, the troops needed to be ready and prepared. They gathered their materials and their wits at the Nueces, waiting for the order to advance into the thinly populated Texas.

President Mina proposed a declaration of war against America to the Legislation. It passed through with a 96% majority. An ultimatum was delivered to Washington D.C., officially beginning the Nueces River War. The cold-blooded American president Andrew Jackson said they would defend their borders to the last man, and Mexico intended to hold this statement to its word. The Americans automatically assumed spiritual and militaristic superiority against Mexico, but Santa Anna would make sure they were proven wrong.

One show of this belief in superiority was a small invasion of the Mexican countryside. An artillery battery was set up near the Rockies in hopes of bombarding the farms and people into submission, but Mexico had other plans. A force of five thousand regulars marched up the hills and put an end to the raid. The cannons were destroyed in the battle and so was American morale. Perhaps the war would not be so easy after all.

Las Vegas and the territory West of the Rockies was in serious danger though. The Americans out of Colorado may easily take Mexican land through the mountains if Mina didn't plan carefully. Under direction of Santa Anna, President Mina ordered the movement of the San Francisco regiment into Las Vegas, to prevent and stop any invasion by America.

The Mexican government needed only one problem at a time, and currently America was their main focus. It had been said that a small fleet of Turkish frigates had been seen along Mexico's Pacific coastline. Although there was nothing of value there, it still worried the officials in Mexico City. So, they reached out to the Ottomans in an attempt to bring about peace among the two nations. Diplomats boarded a Mexican ship and headed for Turkey, where they proceeded to create discussions about a possible peace signing. A deal was reached, where Mexico would pay a modest sum and war could be avoided. Mina took the deal, hoping to not have to worry about more than one nation. Santa Anna, though, was not as pleased, and this, perhaps, should have been Mina's greatest worry.

Americans On The Run

The 17th Cavalry Division marched over the ridges of the mountain. Mexican scouters ran back to their base to alert their commanding officer of this.

"What are your orders sir? Our men are ready to march at your word."

"We shall wait until the Americans are visible, then we shall move one third to the right, one third to the left, and the rest to attack straight on. We will flank them and then surround them."

"Yes sir, I will alert the soldiers." Colonel Rodriguez ran back to the camp to speak to his men, General Marcia just watched the horizon, waiting. Much time passed before the Stars and Stripes appeared before the general. He then ordered his troops to march in the way he told them to. The riflemen dug down and created a small trench to lay down in. The sand shifting made it difficult, but they eventually got it to where it was doable. The general stood behind his men gazing through his parascope. He spoke to the man next to him, telling him the words he had been waiting to hear. The man raised his trumpet, and gave the signal for attack. The Mexicans at the front began firing as the American cavalry charged. The two other sections of the divisions came from below the hill to show their faces. They began firing at the cavalry, inflicting heavy damage. The Mexican soldiers enclosed on their opponents further and further. The yankees were finally forced to abandon their horses and took to their feet to fight, but it was too late.

Their commander called a retreat, and many began their flight, but just as many, if not more, were trapped. While some fought to their death, most laid down their arms as they gave in to the superior soldiers. The American prisoners of war were transported to Las Vegas, where they were held in the jails until further notice. The failed charge destroyed any hope of an American attack. From there on out the war would have America on its heels the whole time.

While the Battle of the Great Salt Lake turned to be a decisive Mexican victory, further advancements in the battlefield came about near the American city of New Orleans. The soldiers dug in and set up their artillery batteries. The terrain of Louisiana made it easy for the shells to make their way down to the city. The shelling of New Orleans decimated both the physical and psychological strength of the city. The defenders had grown weak in the knees and many deserted to neighboring cities and states, where they thought they were safe. An invasion by Mexico seemed imminent, but at the moment, the hail of cannon fire seemed to be never-ending.

The Fall of New Orleans

Atlanta%20Burning%202.jpg

The city of New Orleans now drastically ran low on its much needed supplies. The siege had decimated swathes of the city, and many people were now running out of food. The citizens had already begun to resort to drastic measures to ensure they would not starve. The people began to eat cats and dogs in an effort to get something in their stomachs. Rats had gone from vermin to a delicacy and became more expensive than gold in some parts of the city. The most desperate boiled their shoes to soften the leather that made them. They would proceed to eat the soft leather to gain as much nutrients as possible. Ultimately, General Barragan's plan was to wait out the city, and force surrender, but direct orders came in from Santa Anna, whom was given express power by the president to dictate the war itself, to take the city. He feared that American reinforcements would soon attack the besieging army.

Not allowed to disobey his superior, Barragan prepared his troops for a charge into the city. While the cannons continued to rain hell upon the yankees, the grenadier and cavalry divisions became famous for their valor in New Orleans. The rurales, born from poor farmers and raised as rag tag revolutionaries during early independence now struck fear in the hearts of yankees. One by one, trained, professional American troops fell victim to the decimation by the rurales. Mexico marched into New Orleans, renamed Nueva Orleans, waving their flag of victory over the citizens. Upon hearing the news, the War Council in Mexico City cheered with joy. The underdog Mexicans had just scored a very decisive victory, but Anna hadn't begun to cheer too soon. He knew that the rowdy Americans wouldn't just give up sovereignty, so he manipulated a bill to be pushed into the Legislation that stated that conquered territories are to be put under martial law. The bill passed within a month and Santa Anna declared New Orleans under military control for the time being. He made a mandate stating that acts seen as pro-American or anti-Mexican in newly taken areas, such as protests, will result in being brought before a military court. Although not stated, it was obviously to break the Americans' spirits. Mexicans had no reason to be anti-Mexican in this region.

President Mina had promised a short war with America. He promised to take what was ours and leave, but Santa Anna had other plans. America was hardly willing to reach out for peace to Mexico, as Santa Anna told Mina. The president then gave the go ahead to continue the war and approved the taking of more land, as if it needed to be approved. Santa Anna ordered Barragan to take his forces into the Carolinas to take the second most vital Southern port in America, Charleston. The capture of this precious gem would surely spell defeat for the yanks in the North.

The troops moved into the southernmost areas of the Appalachian mountain range and set up camp to take on the rest of Southern America soon. They outnumbered the defending troops, but their artillery had been destroyed in the taking of New Orleans. Everyone expected a bloody battle on their hands. Who's blood though, was the question.

General Barragan had become famous globally for his tactics used to take the American city. His methods were studied around the world along with some of the other most famous generals. In military academies internationally they now taught the fighting methods of dozens of Europeans, and a Mexican. This brought honor and pride to the nation of Mexico, creating a mystique of war strength for Mexico, which is exactly what Santa Anna had hoped for.

The Closing Stages of the War

X2PTmvT.jpg

The Battle of Charleston was expected to be a bloody one. The American defenders had better trained troops, the vantage point, and no artillery to deal with. The Mexicans, on the other hand, had two things, men and hope. General Barragan was ordered to take the city or die trying, and he would live up to his promise. He told his men that they may not survive that day, but they would live on in the hearts of the Mexican people. On that fateful day, Barragan ordered a charge against the city of Charleston. They threw ladders on the walls they met and climbed over them. They met heavy resistance when they landed in the city. American and yankee friendly British troops fired heavily against the Mexican troops. The problem was, it began to rain. A storm, almost out of nowhere, poured down on the poor soldiers. They fought in the mud, the streets, and anywhere they could find.

With most having lost the ability to use gunpowder based weaponry, they resorted to melee. This was where Mexico shined. Mexico gave standard issue swords made cheaply and quickly for use in just such an occasion. America didn't. The fighting became brutal to no end. The downpour washed the blood into pools on certain street intersections. In the end, it was numbered that twenty thousand were killed in total, with 80% of those deaths being American. Charleston fell, and so did yankee hopes for victory.

Barragan had gotten tired of Santa Anna's plans. He had lost many good men that way and even though the larger governing body insisted, Anna refused to ask for peace. He ordered Barragan and his soldiers deeper into American territory. Begrudgingly, he followed his orders. He and his soldiers marched into Virginia. They were moving North and along the way, were told to create utter hell. Plantations and houses were burned, roads and early railroads destroyed, and general havoc, but this wasn't the total plan. The troops continued their march North until finally, they hit the Potomac. They made a camp across from America's capital city. The United States citizens had now gone into a frenzy. Men and women panicking and buying provisions. The government of America had failed to protect its people, and it was now obvious.
Spoiler :

Barragan had no plans to actually take the capital. Several problems emerged from that. The city was very well defended, it would have likely bolster American vengeance, and it would make for very very sour neighbors. Santa Anna was furious when he learned that they didn't take Washington D.C., he threatened Barragan with being fired from his position, but he could not get rid of his best general, so he had to deal with it. With their capital surrounded, Andrew Jackson had no choice, but surrender. August 23rd, 1831, the Mexican-American War was officially ended, and the territories lost by America were ceded to Mexico. Citizens back home responded with cheers at both the end of the war and the success of it. Ratings for Santa Anna went through the roof.

Although having just fought a war, both Mexico and America knew the importance of an alliance. While the Americans were upset with Mexico and suspicious, they needed a bulwark against the French, whom they had been fighting against for the first part of the Mexican-American War. America had now lost both its Southern states, and New England. It needed protection now more than ever. Thus, the North American Shield was created. It was a military alliance between the two nations based out of the North American continent. The control of the alliance was put in the hands of the Commander-in-Chief in America, and the Secretary of War in Mexico, otherwise known as Santa Anna.

Well done, but did this war destroyed the mexican army?

Defencive pact? It must be a diplomatic miracle. Who is US' worst enemy?

Have you won the 1st goal?

The only troops i lost were the cannons, by a miracle of the RNG gods.

I think it's still France.

What's the first goal?

Construct three catholic cathedrals I think by 1870AD.

No, and I doubt I'll get it. Also, I don't like early victories for stories.

Vice President Resigns from Office

Earlier this week it was announced that Mexico's Vice President would be packing up and leaving office. Following allegations of embezzlement and the purchase of prostitutes he has officially retired before giving anyone else the chance to remove him from power. The accusations were never truly proved but were able to apparently at least true enough to run him out of office. On this note, Secretary of War Santa Anna stated, "It's terrible that men would do such a thing. To be in such a good position and throw it away. People like him must be extradited from society to create room for those truly faithful to their nation." He left late in the night and left only a resignation for whoever might find it. His current situation or location is unknown, but law enforcement have been sent out to find him and put him on trial for crimes against the Mexican state. When President Mina was asked for his thoughts, he merely said, "tis a shame." and left the interview.

Procedure for this kind of situation is simple, since he acts as a partner the President, a new Vice President will be chosen out of the current ranks of the upper Secretaries and the Head Legislator. The choice was made with haste, as it seemed Mina did not want to run his nation without someone to fall back on. His choice, Secretary of War Santa Anna. His tactical and diplomatic strength was shown during the war, and he was chosen as essentially, the net to catch Mexico in case the president dies. General procedure is that when the president dies, and the vice president takes place, unless the change of office happened within the first three years of presidency, a new term is created for the new president. The rule was added about the time of the Catholic revolts, because there was fear the president might have been killed.

The betrayal of the old vice president to the Mexican people has left a hole in the legitimacy of the government, and it must be filled and patched soon, or else the wound will be infected, and become even worse. Mexico is stronger than ever, and must stay that way, or else the Americans may try to reclaim what was lost to Mexico.
