SGOTM 22 - Anti-TSR

Notes

1. We should build a couple Hindu Missionaries for Uruk and Eridu, before leaving OR, if we're planning to revolt them. Gil is not running Theocracy. ALternatively, Bovino could build a Hindu Monastery.
Good luck spreading Hindu to Gilga's cities while we are at war...

We got the extra WE negmod from ZaGift.

I think we can be ready for Brennus (or at least ready to kill his stack if he DoWs and moves in on us) in 10 turns. Cuirs will flank the cats, and kill everything else on the open ground. We don't even need that many of them.

I do think we need to start planning for Hannibal - probably along the lines of dropping our stack near Carthage once it's not needed in the East - but Brennus can't really be allowed to resettle all that land since this is conquest, not whack-a-mole.

Okay, slept on it. Changed my mind. I haven't examined the technicalities, but it sure seems like the easiest solution is to demand gold from Brennus. Save the 50% spy for HaGift Chemistry in 3t. Pump out units and roll.

Not even sure I'd build anything but Cuirs everywhere for a little while. Trebs won't help us against a Brennus stack in the open.

Then maybe we plan for a CF before T201 or whatever it is ZPV has planned. Almost half cheaper...

We'd still need open borders, which we are not likely to get. He won't like us very much after declaring on him, even if we switched to Christianity. Plus, he'd have to forget we canceled open borders (10% chance each turn).

Do we want to use city revolts for Brennus and Darius? Then we'd have to start building missionaries soon.

Which also means Theocracy makes sense too. 11XP Cuirs in Rome.

If Hanni goes for MilSci next, we might want to save our future GGs for +50% in selected production cities.

+1

After whacking Gilgamolesh, we'll be in great position to take the entire map from west, east and south. More or less a perfect strategy for preventing re-settling.

Guess we have to gift him damaged caravels, then. :)

Guess we just have to collect a few eps and pay the cost to revolt Uruk.

Speaking of which, that's a good use of caravels--putting spies into coastal cities more safely when we don't have OBs.

Turnset report, t190-?

t190, continued

A warrior makes its way from FC, to make the numbers in Rome up to 20 next turn.
Brennus donates 190g to our cause, but isn't very happy about it.
Some builds switch to Cuirs.

IBT:
Gilgamesh get a GE
Zara revolts to Slavery
Hannibal learns Chemistry, does not have another tech queued up

t191
ZaGift is razed to the ground.
A warrior makes its way back to FC, remembering that Romans don't like warriors any more.
Our units move in on Zara's cities.

IBT:
nada

t192

First up, here's a screenie of Rome, with 20 units in it. None of these need to move again until after the battle at AA.

and here's Addis captured, bringing us to 10 cities.

City Revolt successful
We lost 1 treb and 1 CR2C1 Praet.

Next up: Debre Berhan.
City Revolt successful
We lose 1 treb and C1CR1Woody1 Praet.
Everyone else wins.
Bernard Montgomery is born in Rome.
City razed.

Zara is down to just Medina as his capital.

We have lots of gold from capturing cities and pillaging no-man's land.

Revolt (last turn of golden age) to Theocracy + Nationhood.

aand it's the big one! We declare war on Gilgamesh!
Kish is very lightly defended; Eridu is also kind of cheap so we land some units there as well.

IBT:
Gilgamesh kills one Praet with a knight at Eridu, and moves too many units in there to take the city.
Darius founds New Debre Berhan, without most of its tile improvements.
Kish is still underdefended, but there is a stack of 6 cats and a vulture next to it.
Ur is still capturable.

t193:
Upload for thought.
I haven't microed the cities yet.

We've got a few options (20 units next turn is easy):

1) Upgrade a warrior to a pike for 155g (yuck!)
2) Delay capturing Addis Ababa (yuck!)
3) Settle the city next turn, immediately gift it to Hannibal, and run a spread culture mission with a new spy, then steal Chemistry with the -50% spy.
4) Wait until pop22 and do a bigger steal (Chem+Compass+Optics?) from Hannibal in a few turns.

We have too many discounts for EP missions in HaGift. A spread culture mission would cost 0 EP, so it wouldn't show up in the mission list.

Option 4 sounds good.

Thanks, I'll continue then.

Yes, option 4 sounds best.
...unless there is an option 5. Return a horse unit to Rome? Probably too late for that.
