The Civ1 Forum rules are the same as for the other forums. You can read these here.
However you should make especial note of this rule:
Zero tolerance on piracy.
Posting links to warez sites, program cracks, and manuals are not allowed in the forum. Anyone found guilty of participating in piracy activity in the forum will be banned.
What does this mean in the Civ1 Forum? It means you must not post links to sites where you think Civ1 can be downloaded. CivFanatics takes the view that these downloads are illegal, so anyone posting links to those sites will be banned. This banning is immediate and permanent. The moderator will also delete or edit the posts which contained those links and close the thread.

The excuse usually made to justify posting such links is that Civ1 is hard to buy nowadays. This is true, but Civ1 is not "abandonware" and still appears from time to time bundled into collections with other games. Whereas you may not find it for sale at your local games shop, you'll often find a mail order supplier after just a few minutes web search. There is also a steady trade in secondhand games on auction sites such as eBay.

New posters should take note that it's therefore unwise to ask other forum members to supply them with a link for an illegal download.

We also take a dim view of posters asking for replacement files from other forum members. If you lose your software and you can't be bothered to buy new stuff, don't expect anyone here to bail you out. All such threads will be closed.

Hi

I got CIV and COLONIZATION from ebay UK - fine, no probs etc - just make sure the person you are getting them off has a good reputation/rating (they usually have)

:)

This is a hilarious !!!!
I didn't think anyone still played this old version. I remember the old covered wagons. For 5 bucks I may just buy a copy. It would be good for a laugh.

Was there a Mac version of the original Civ?

Oh yeah, in fact, the Mac version of Civ was the first computer game that I ever played. It was also the first one I ever bought. I wonder if I still have that...

On ebay Germany someone is offering the Amiga Version for about US$ 6.- right now, on four 3,5" discs :)

I got my version of CivNet on ebay two years ago for less than one Dollar (sigh!) - though, right now, hardly any Civ 1 copies are offered over here.

I beliieve that after so many years Civ 1 has entered the public domain and thus it would be perfectly legal for someone to offer it as a *free* download. I bought a copy a long time ago (actually my father did when I was about five and I've been playing it ever since). Anyway if an adminstrator could check this out, and either get a download out themselves or contact me to use my game as a source. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty certain it IS public domain.

These games are brand new? I'd rather have the Windows version, but what the heck. I'm going to think about that.

Did the DOS version have any patches, and are they already installed with the game disc?

We've had influx of civ1 posters so I think this needs a little *bump* to remind them to read this.

READ THIS!

Well Civ1 isn't public domain; it takes like 25 yrs IIRC for something to be Public Domain under US law (which governs Civ1) and I believe the Borne Convention is likewise.

So we're waiting for.. what? 2015? Nine years.. hopefully we will all still be in the civ1 scene to celebrate. :)
