Heirs to Heaven

Hey, de Toullies, shall we finish off Braxton together this season or next?

While not relevant for this season as I have already sent in my orders, House Natt och Dag is offering to trade away MP in exchange for either EP, access to IC, or a combination of both from next season onward. Hit me up with an offer if interested in making a deal.

Also, House Natt och Dag officially declares war on House Braxton to help rid the world of the last remnants of this house of liars and backstabbers.

Early warning, this update will be a bit delayed. Busy etc etc.

Hopefully early next week. Sorry.

Year 417 Of Our Lord, Spring
Twelve months after The End

The Grand Alliance Shocks Heaven
The actions of Houses de Toullies, Arimathea and Polud have shocked the Kingdom, both with their own subjects and in those in Summer Pact and Grand Alliance lands. While the Braxton, Wychland and Dandale wars have already shocked a people who have never known true warfare, the not only undeclared invasion, but one on a married House, committed by House de Toullies against House Mephs has caused uproar among nobles and commoners alike. A report published by House de Toullies after the battle implicates House Mephisels in an attempt on Lord Lucius’ life, but even those who believe the report have to admit the placement of the Lion’s Pride was very convenient. The surprise invasions perpetrated by House Arimathea and House Polud have also drawn ire and scorn, though not so much so as Lord Lucien’s actions, but the overall prestige of the Grand Alliance has been damaged. While the impact on Toullies’, and the Grand Alliance’s, legitimacy is significant, the Regent still has strong support, both in his own House and in the Grand Alliance Houses. Though how far he can stretch this support is up in the air.

The North

Battle of Samar Ends with Dismantling of House Dandale by Koriate and Isaakios Forces, Uncertainty over Occupation Follows Samar, Koraite-Isaakios DMZ
House Dandale had been reduced to a single province, Samar, but while it lacked manpower and industrial capabilities, Lord Enrique still had access to a large supply of gold. While Isaakios armies mustered, Enrique paid vast fortunes to attract mercenary companies. When Lord Alexandros finally arrived at Samar with his army, veterans of the battles of Veniera and Aonia, they were initially expecting a weak and desperate defense. What they were surprised to find was a vast force nearly tripling their own, mostly made up of mercenary light and heavy infantry. The advance ground to a halt as the Dandale army held off, and began to push back the invaders. It seemed as if the Isaakios army was going to be forced to retreat when mercenary forces began peeling off, being redeployed north to head off a second invasion by the Koriate House Guard army. With its army split, the Dandale line was pushed further and further back by the joint Isaakios-Koriate advance, until the mercenaries broke and fled, killing their once allied Dandale soldiers as they made their escape. Chaos ensued as both House of Koriates and House Isaakios troops, as well as fleeing mercenaries, sacked and pillaged.

As the smoke cleared and blood dried days later, the destruction of the province became clear, and the few remaining survivors of House Dandale were imprisoned. Notably, Lord Enrique fell into Isaakios hands, while his son lay dead on the Koriate front. Despite the end of combat and looting, tension remained in the air. Both the Isaakios and Koriate armies were claiming occupation of Samar, and up until the end of Spring the two armies remain stationed in the province, with neither truly carrying out any proper governance.

The Siege and Surrender of Stillharbour and the Black Breath in the North Stillharbour, House Taran
After the failed invasion of Stillharbour in winter, House Taran set up a siege of the shrouded province, waiting for friendly Koriates forces to position themselves. While waiting and blocking the roads in and out of the last Wychland province, House Taran brought in wizards and witches from across Heaven to attempt to dispel the unearthly fog smothering Stillharbour. Despite the efforts of dozens of ‘magic’ experts, the inky black shroud still hugged the earth. Lady Nichola was considering keeping her forces on the defensive to simply starve out the remaining Wychlanders, when blockading forces began reporting waves of refugees pouring out of the province. According to the refugees Stillharbour had been abandoned by the soldiers and the nobility. Indeed, many of the refugees streaming out of the province were deserted Wychlander soldiers. Koriates and Taran scouts seemed to confirm the reports, and so the two armies cautiously moved into the province, wary of traps or ambushes out of the fog, but none ever came. The few still intact Wychlander regiments in Stillharbour handed over their arms and dropped their banners at first sight of the invaders, and soon the province was fully under Taran occupation. While this would have been cause for celebration, along with the discovery of the still full Wychland treasury to be split between the two Houses, the advance into Stillharbour revealed new horrors. The villages and towns were empty, but the trade hub of Stillharbour itself was full of corpses. Peasant, merchant, noble and soldier all lay piled in the streets, their faces gaunt and grey.

The cause of their deaths soon became clear, as Koriate and Taran soldiers began suffering from retching coughs, spitting out inky black bile for days, unable to hold drink of food in their stomachs, before ultimately dying days later with one last rib cracking hack. Whole regiments in the Koriates Watch and Taran Riders have come down with the coughed, dubbed the Black Breath, and worse yet, hundred of civilians in the Bloodrock Plains and Myriam Peak have caught and fallen the sickness.

House Atkyn Crushed by Polud Surprise Attack Rreeastane, House Polud
Relations between Houses Atkyn and Polud had been stable up until this spring, or at least so thought House Atkyn. While Duchess Ysbal was still on the island of Ellen Yee getting treatment for her visions, House Polud launched a massive, undeclared surprise invasion. Two armies attacked on the continent, with the smaller Swellswords detachment striking Crysslagh unopposed while the great Hell’s Halberdiers, led by the famed and newly legitimised William Polud, clashed with and eventually overwhelmed the Ducal Guard in Rreeastane, though with great losses. As the continental attacks commenced, a small detachment of marines, the Extreme Expense, was transported to Ellen Yee aboard the newly minted ships of the Salt Squadron. The larger Polud fleet briefly clashed with the Dynastic Fleet before landing the marines and sacking the island. The Polud invasion ended quickly, and after the pillaging quieted down the last surviving member of House Atkyn, Lord Illiam Atkyn, was imprisoned in Owary until his fate is decided. Duchess Ysbal, thought to have been on Ellen Yee, was never found, and is presumed dead.

Fervour of Construction Grips Isaakios Builders Nicosia, House Isaakios
The rapid expansion of territory and investment into infrastructure improvement has created a climate of optimism and enthusiasm for building in Isaakios lands. Children across the House's provinces play with crude hammers and saws, while craftsmen guilds are bursting with new apprentices. Court members, both the old court and the new advisors Anastasia and Psellos urge Lord Alexandros to take advantage of the trend before it passes.

Miracle by the Lake Kumar, House of Koriates
More and more commoners, and even some lesser nobles, have been leaving their families and work to live on frigid shores of lake Celestis. The migrants are now lining the rocky beaches, painting, sketching, and even sculpting the bizarre scenes made popular by Lady Laminas. While the Lady's condition improved, allowing her to return to her duties, her 'followers' became increasingly fanatical. They refused to eat or shelter themselves, only drinking water from the lake. Despite the protests of family and the nobility, thousands have starved or frozen to death on the shores. Yet still more come.

This would have been the biggest news in Koriate lands, if not for the Miracle in Kumar. Despite being frozen and inhospitable almost year, great and bountiful fruit trees have sprouted in abundance. In less than a months time, the sparse, poor farms in Kumar have become thriving orchards. The court is dumbstruck, while the clergy is split between calling it a miracle sent from God, or as a curse from Hell. Many have also drawn a connection to the 'artists' on the lake, and are either demanding they be tried as heretics, or praised as saints. No matter what Duke Ludenard personally believes, he must face the fact that thousands of his subjects are abandoning their fields and workshops to die on a beach.

Koriate Guards Stamp out Poachers Wychwood, House Koriates
The incessant Polud poachers poaching the turkeys in Wychwood have finally met their fate at the hands of Koriate soldiers. Largely ignored by Wychland lords, the locals were surprised to find the occupiers take such a quick and clear response to their plight. A dozen Polud poachers were caught and summarily executed, earning the gratitude of the locals at the expense of the hatred of the poachers’ families over in Owary.

William the Claimant Legitimised, but not Given Heirdom Owary, House Polud
Fearing provoking the military forces loyal to William or of angering Milo and his vassal lords, Lord Muncel opted for a compromise that would not result in his sons murdering each other. At least not yet. He has legitimised William as one of his true born son, diligently avoiding mentioning the kid’s mother, or the fact that he appears to be older than Milo, and giving William claim to the newly occupied Atkyn land upon his death, and succession to the Head of the House behind Milo. William and Milo seem annoyed, but concent to the decision. The decision has overall been well accepted for its ability to keep the peace, though some damage has still been done by Lord Muncel for allowing his lower organs to make this an issue in the first place.

Fire Ravages Smithing Quarter Noveria, House Polud
A fire broke out in Noveria, burning through one of the major smithing centres. While there was little loss of life, and the fire was contained to a single quarter, the number of workshops lost is staggering, and has greatly reduced the industrial output of the province.

Heir to House Lamere Gripped by Fever Davensport, House Lamere
Lord Malcolm has been bed bound for weeks, burning an intense fever. Many fear he will soon pass away, while his father stressed over how to save his son. Priests have been looking over and praying for Malcolm, but their medical knowledge is limited. With extra funds they believe they can find better equipment and personnel to help the heir. Besides the priests, a man claiming to be a doctor has approached the court, saying that he can cure the heir. He has a look of a hedge wizard more than a proper doctor, but Malcolm's family may be desperate enough to try anything.

Holy Church Inquisition Continues Amid Evidence of Corruption, Patriarch Mathias Froms the Legion of the Faith Holy City, the Holy Church
Thousands have fallen under the shadow of the Inquisition as it purifies the commoners, nobles and clergy. It seems under every rock the Inquisitors turn, they find leads to a dozen new nests of heresy and corruption. A number of the holy council itself have been tried by the Inquisition, all of whom were suspiciously critical of the Inquisition and its initiators. As the council grows smaller, its ability to make decisions becomes more effective. Seeing the wars across Heaven, and the heresey spreading within the Holy Church, the council is transforming the Holy City and its provinces into fortresses, claiming to be the last bastion of God’s will in Heaven. Growing numbers of the Faithful in lands under the Holy Church are fleeing into lands the see as safe from war and persecution: House Isthon lands.

In response to the tightening of the Holy Church’s control, Patriarch Mathias has called for a complete and total denouncement of the council. He has also made a call for all who bear arms to join together into a Legion of the Faith. Faithful from across the Kingdom have already made their way to Owary, some trained soldiers, some veterans, others barely able to hold a sword. But an army marches on its stomach, and Patriarch Mathias holds no lands, and so he has turned to the Grand Alliance, calling on the Great Houses to donate funds to God’s soldiers.

Anti-Trade Movement Gains Noble Support Toullies, House de Toullies
With the spread of the Black Breath in other Houses, a growing mass of peasants and minor lords are petitioning for Lord Lucius to cancel trade deals with House Toullies. They vehemently believe this will prevent the Black Breath from sweeping into Touilles lands, though merchants scream that assured financial ruin is more dangerous than unlikely sickness.

Nobles and Officials Curb Administrative Slacking Mid-Thuria, House Taran
With House Taran's strict reactions to disloyal nobles and inept administrators, minor lords and their officials in XXX have taken measures to ensure the province is run properly. Tax codes are being enforced, laws are being upheld and tariffs applied diligently. With the wars and madness of these times making the people ever more uncertain, any display of proper governance is a Godsend.

Foiled Saboteurs Reveal Grand Alliance Plot Too Late Pavile, House of Mephisels
The Mephisels’ 2nd Army was preparing to assault Erlingsworth, the last bastion of Braxton forces, alongside troops from House de Toullies and House Natt och Dag, when a group of suspicious individuals were caught by sentries tampering with water and food supplies. Soon after, similar groups were discovered by sentries in the 1st army garrisoned in Castle Braxton. While the smaller squad of saboteurs in Castle Braxton managed to escape, the dozen or so individuals captured by the 2nd Army were quickly revealed to be Toullies and Polud agents. The officers of the 2nd Army quickly put two and two together, and were able to engage the Toullies Lion’s Pride stationed in Toolei as it was mobilising. The Toullies army was larger, and had been able to dig into the Mephisels’ own defensive positions. The 2nd Army was pushed back, and the Lion’s Pride was free to sack Toolei. As the battle in Toolei raged, House Arimathea invaded Gealot unopposed, sacking and occupying the province, while the Arimathea fleet linked up with the Toullie fleet to blockade Summer Bay.

Erlingsworth Collapses in on Itself, Natt och Dag Troops Occupy, and the Black Breath in the South Erlingsworth, House Natt och Dag
When troops did arrived at Erlingsworth, they were from House Natt och Dag, rather than House Mephs, as the latter was preoccupied with fighting off the backstabbing Toullies. The Eastern Hundred Regiment’s scouts did not see any sign of Braxton forces near the Erlingsworth border, though visibility was blocked by the thick black fog. The only activity was the mass of refugees pouring out into Mephs lands. Those that could speak told the Dag soldiers of what happened in Erlingsworth. With his lands in tatters, his soldiers battered and beaten, and an empty treasury, Lord Commander Balon Braxton and his Household lost its control over its own house guards. The men of the Sword Company murdered their own officers, then set to looting Erlingsworth in a fit of bloodlust before Summer Pact troops could catch them. The Eastern Hundred Regiment pushed carefully into the province, finding it largely deserted. In the central city, they found the refugees to be truthful, as the city’s streets were scenes of slaughter. Commoners and soldiers lay in bloody heaps, half from obvious wounds, while the others likely died later from starvation or sickness. Without Mephs troops present, Natt och Dag took over administration in the province and set to repairing the damages. Soon, though, the true horror of the Braxton wars came to rise. Thousands came down with a terrible whooping cock, retching out inky black bile for a week before dying from dehydration or internal bleeding. The Black Breath, as it’s now called, has caused The Eastern Hundred Regiment to suffer massive casualties in its ranks, while commoners fell in the hundreds in both Erlingsworth and in surrounding Mephs provinces.

Stranger in our Common Lands Haliginis, House Faulhamer
Debris that washed up on beaches across the Southern Peninsula drew much curiosity in both House Faulhamer and House Iskariota, as there were no records of any large ships lost at sea in the south this season. As in interest died down, another, even more amazing curiosity was discovered. While a local lord surveyed one of his villages in southern Haliginis, he heard that a new comer was working with the fishermen. While not that out of the ordinary, the lord decided to have a chat with the stranger to ward of his boredom. When he came face to face with the man, he was shocked to find the man was unlike anything he had ever seen. The stranger was tall, and with skin tanned a dark brown, almost black. He spoke a tongue never heard in Heaven. He had apparently picked up a few words and simple phrases from his few weeks in the village, but communication was still extremely difficult. The lord immediately took the Stranger to his manor, and soon after to Ironhold to be presented to Lord Lythric. The court was likewise amazed, but soon after inspecting the Stranger, argument broke out over what to do with him. Some among the clergy immediately judged the Stranger to be a demon, and should be drowned in the sea before it dragged all of House Faulhamer into hell. Others are less reactionary, and believe teaching the Stranger to communicate could be at least interesting.

Player Notes
@Everyone - If you are supporting a espionage action, you must also pay the base cost, or you will have no effect. You know who you are.
@Double A - Making new armies/fleets requires paying upkeep costs upfront. I just did it anyways, since you have enough income to pay off your debt next turn.
@Ninja Dude - I assume you meant raise AGR in haliginis and lys to 6 instead of 5, so I did that.
@inthesomeday, SouthernKing - your useable income stat already includes upkeep, so you actually had some extra EP left over.

Rule Changes
- While not stated clearly in the rules, you can only reinforce armies within your own borders, though fleets can be reinforced anywhere as long as there is a clear route between one of your provinces and your fleet.. The rules will be made more clear on how and where you can reinforce armies/navies.

- Armies/Fleets cannot be disbanded the same turn they are built. Rules will be updated shortly.

General Notes
There we are, update 4, sorry for the wait. Also, hats off to the fallen Houses Dandale, Wychland, Atkyn and Braxton and their players. Any of you unfortunate enough to be the players of a dead house, feel free to rejoin as any NPCs barring the True Church or Holy Church.

As always, check for stat/map errors. They will always be there. Waiting. Hiding. Annoying. Also the stats are fugly with empty rows were dead houses are. Will fix when/if I have the time and effort.

Let’s set due date for update 5 orders on Sunday, July 24th. As always, sig will be updated with countdown.

One more matter is game mechanics change. I’ve been toying with changing the game to having a pretty central population stat, and was thinking of including it in this update, but decided it was too much work to do right away and also that you folk should have a say in it. People are starting to get used to the game’s sketchy rules, so would any of you really want a major change to the rules at this point? The main change would be adding a precise population to each province, from which you then generate manpower to train soldiers, and also affects resource production. AGR now generates food rather than manpower, which is required to keep your population alive, and a surplus of food increases population growth. I think the system is kind of neat, but at the same time not really necessary and probably pretty jarring this far into the game. Thoughts?

To House Meph
From House of Koriates

A public apology--we of the House Of Koriates was not told of our regent's plans. Regrettably, it appears that a state of war now exists between our alliances. We will not blame you if you decide to annul trade contracts.

Liars! Cheaters! Hideous monsters! Cast them and any of their diplomats from me.

HOUSE OF MEPHS
I will declare this once, and only once. I who warned Lucien of a possible assassination have been blamed for it! I who told him secrets of a plot was then blamed! No wonder rumors of a plot were out there, Lucien himself have planned a fake assassination! Yet he could not keep his dogs from whispering.

This will not be forgiven or forgotten. I know GOD is on my side, for Braxton fell even while I could not bring their demise. My dreams were done by others, for GOD is on my side.

This war of aggression will end only once all of my lands have returned, and the perpetrators of the lies have been caught and hanged. The "Grand" alliance who spoke of bringing peace brought nothing but war and betrayal into our kingdom. GOD's death was used by them as a moment to grab power.

I will not cease until the so called "Grand" alliance, or as it should be known, the alliance of the liars and the cheats, is dismantled. Any who continue its support for the grand alliance is now in a state of war with the House of Meph. There will be no diplomatic relations with any member who remain in the alliance.

And now their hideous crimes have brought forward a curse upon our lands. A disease that is spreading quickly among all. May you all suffer for what you have brought.

GOD is on my side, and has always been on my side, and we will win.

to Koriates:
You public apology is meaningless if you continue to support the alliance of liars and cheaters. Pathetic of you to continue to bark to your master while he betrays his family. You will probably be next in line after us anyway. Our trade relations will of course be instantly annulled. There will be no trust, and no friendship and no discussion with the alliance of liars and cheaters. You will all be stopped by GOD and myself as soon as possible.

Unfortunately the laws of honor dictate that I pledge my allegiance to the one who I offered it to, no matter what his behavior is like. Trade agreement shall be annulled. We shall meet you on the field.

Then you honor is dishonorable. To support liars and cheaters, betrayers of family, there is no honor in that, Only death.

I will maintain that you, by organizing a barrier a quick unification, were in the wrong here, because the longer we tarry, the more hellish shenanigans will happen, and the longer they go unopposed.

And before you cry out that you did not have enough time: what were you doing all the while since God died? You did not organize a claimant to the position of regent. You did not even present another realistic option. You just waited, and reacted, instead of taking action in the first place.

House Natt och Dag fully supports our friends and allies of House Mephisels in their struggle against the traitors of the Grand Alliance - which has shown to be neither grand nor a worthy successor to the rule of God. We will fight for justice until their false "regent" has been rightfully executed for his treachery.

Pity that Lord Aegron, a man who I welcomed into my own family, would betray ME in such a manner, and then claim to God that he was in the right. I know not what punishment God has for you, but I do not envy you.

Surrender now, and I may yet be lenient. Continue your betrayals though, and you will see that punishment manifested by ten-thousand fold!

You are either blind and deaf or a hypocrite. Who called upon all houses to a conference to maintain stability and unity? Who continued peaceful relations with all even while people claimed to be gods? Who single handed pushed away the Braxton aggressors from their castle, only to be betrayed afterwards?

I am not so pompous to claim to rule the kingdom of haven like the cheater and betrayer you call a regent. That is what you want? A betrayer regent? That is what you got. Anyone who wish to support me for leading Heaven is welcome to do so, but I will not force anyone to do so to be allied with me. I do not seek rulership, only peace. But now. Now I seek vengeance. Unfortunate (not to mention strange), that our houses must now oppose one another, especially since it was not too long ago that you approached House Faulhamer with offers of partitioning Iskariotan lands. You had such high hopes for cooperation when it meant stabbing another House in the back.

We witnessed firsthand the treachery within the Summer Pact, and knew it was an alliance of vermin. That's why Faulhamer withdrew in favor of the righteous and proactive Regent Lucius de Toullies.

Only now, when the kingdom is on the verge of unification and stability, do you rats chatter and scurry. You know that judgement is coming quickly, and soon your secrets and your plots will be laid bare for all to see. Perhaps this is will be a mercy killing of the Summer Pact; you would have been at each others' throats in a few months anyway.

Missive Distributed towards all nobles in Koriates territory

The heretical and traitorous houses of Braxton, Wychland, and Dandale lies defeated at Koriates feet. The poachers in wychwood have been dealt with, and our realms see stability once more. The realms of Wychwood and Myriam Peak must now consider themselves as part of the North in perpetuity.

However there still remains threats.

The province of Myriam Peak must now consider themselves under quarantine. The House of Koriate recommends the lords of other realms against travelling to Myriam Peak nor accepting visitors from Myriam peak. Fear not--for the lives of nobles living there shall be protected. All merchant and commoner travel to and from Myriam Peak into the rest of Koriate territory is to be suspended.

The madness gripping the Art colony in Kumar is to be stopped. Troops will be dispatched in order to prevent these madmen from harming themselves in whatever it is they believe to be doing. They will be held in special facilities until they can be trusted enough to be able to take care of themselves.

We are well aware of their possible connections to the new orchards of kumar, but until anyone has actually claimed responsibility for such a miracle, the Duke does not feel an obligation to respond. Peasants are to enjoy this boon for now.

Additionally, let it be known that a state of war now exists between the Summer Pact and the House of Koriates. Reunification of Heaven draws near, and the House of Koriates shall play her role.
