Stapel Kicking some serious butt! How much oil is there in the world? If we can grab any oil fields on the Peria/Zulu/Bab continent, this game is history.
 
Good news bugsy, there's only 1 source of oil on the island continent & the babs have it. Plus we have every source on our continent under a colony.

It's not over yet, but it's definatly looking that way. I'm gonna go with stapels plan of making peace with Hammi & taking out the Zulu now.

Just want to say thank you to each & every member of this squad, thanks for making GK1 such a great game, and turning this into the best SG I've played in yet. We had some great discussions/debates over damn near every decision we made. I actually went back & re-read the first 20 pages & it's remarkable how we got to this point. The game looked really bleak for along time with our starting location, it's also ironic that are only game plan going in to this game for success(get the GL)....... we didn't accomplish.:lol:

Jesus!! Things have sure changed since my last turn, I was setting up wars with Cavs, now Panzers are steamrolling over our enemies. I read the logs but they don’t do justice to how much we’re laying the smack down on everyone. Us not getting the GL might have actually helped us in the long run by allowing us a GA right now. This is without a doubt the latest I’ve ever had a GA in a game.

I’m also amazed how what I initially thought was a weedy move on bugsy’s part to change to a Republic, turned out to be an excellent call. We haven’t had to change once, and WW hasn’t really been that much of a problem. 1500+ years of constant warfare in a Republic??:eek: That’s gotta be some kinda record!:lol:

MMing looks great, make 1 small change I think.

Take out a barb camp.

Make peace with Hammi for 2gpt, 163g, Amphibious War, and an alliance against Shaka.

Sign a RoP with Xerxes.

Military statis: 0 workers(about 500+ slaves:lol: ), 1 archer, 15 cavs, 37 infs, 30 arty, 3 transports, 2 carriers, 4 destroyers, 3 battleships, 9 bombers, 1 army, and 31 panzers wrecking shop.

Against Shaka’s: 1 marine, 81 infs, 6 cavs, 7 arty, 4 destroyers, 1 trans, 6 bombers & misc other outdated units.

IT- Hammi dials up us screaming about some troops in his territory, we sign a RoP.
A Zulu Inf & Indian Lb tag team a panzer to kill it.
We learn computers! Start on Fission(for the UN, don’t want any of them to get it with our public opinion standings right now). Due in 19 at 60%, 13gpt.

1- Elite Panz on our cont kills Zulu Inf & Ind Lb.
Wounded Panz takes out Z Inf, -3hp.
Spots a stack of 20+ Z Infs headed our way.

Dialing up my diplo advisor I see that Xerxes & Shaka are buddies, and they have an RoP together. This won’t do, only we’re allowed to use those rails, bribe him with Electricity into the war also(+4gpt).
Artillary shell the stack down to 2 to 3 hps each.
Use our wounded panzers to start killing the stack, about halfway through with 0 losses I get a GL. Shaka’s Kryptonite is born! Rictoffen moves up to the landing point to get out of here & go rush the SETI.
We kill about 15 of the Infs using wounded Panzers with only 2 losses.

Cav takes out a barb camp.
Change Coast from Battle to a transport.

IT- Watch everyone take out some Zulu. AI wars are fun.

2- Rictoffen hops in a transport, will be home next turn.
A zulu clad moves u the coast, looks like he wants to take out our Oil colony, good thing we have 5 spares.:lol: Send a battleship up to intercept.
Establish 2 more incense colonies, just because.
Finish slaughtering the Zulu Infs, he’s now down to 62. Pick up 3 slaves in the process.

Start moving troops towards a simultaneous assult on Antioch &
Shell Antioch for a bit, it’s defended by a marine & a cav.
An Elite Panz kills both without being scraped & takes the city.

On our continent:
Vet Panz retreats from Z inf.
Vet Panz kills Z inf, -2hp & promotes to Elite.
Vet Panz kills Z inf flawlessly but doesn’t promote.
Set up 2 more wine and a coal colony, just cause I’m bored with nothing to do on the homefront.

IT- Gandhi & Hammi sign a peace treaty.
Kills a Z marine.
In a definite :smoke: move, I lose about 8 slaves to a barb warrior. Doh!!
3 Mechs, a RL, and a Battle ordered up.

3- First of all I get revenge on that barb! Then I find & take out his camp.
Vet Panz kills Z inf, -3hp & promotes.
Take out Zulu saltpeter, horses, and 1 of their rubber.
Dump a transport full of Mechs & Elite Panzs off next to Z territory, load up a bunch more to be dropped off next turn.
With so many wounded troops, this was mostly a healing/positioning turn……….. well defiantly mostly healing.

IT- Watch 3 Bab transports/escorts head for Zululand, they probably have about 6 cavs in there total.

Poor Mnodo gets crushed under Panzer treads.
Our amazingly accurate bombers take our their gems.
Dump 2 loads of Panzers, Mechs, and *shock* Cavs off on Zulu soil. Next turn, our Panzers will all be at full strength & the burning will commence.

IT- Complete SETI in Berlin.
More Mechs ordered up.
Barbs suicide themselves on our Inf guarded colonies, but since the rails are there I don’t know where they’re coming from. It’s worth the 50g to find out though.

5- Battleships take out 3 clads headed for our transports.
Search everywhere but can only find 1 camp, take it out & our panzer promotes.
Sell our coal plant in Berlin.
Set up to take out (hopefully) 2 cities next turn.

IT- Infs blow up 2 of our Panzers. OHH MY GOD!1!1 Lemme post 15 topics whining about streakiness & how infantries with rifles could never take out a tank, then vow to never play Civ again until this is fixed.:rolleyes:

A single Elite Panzer mops up the 3 Infs & burns the city, -1hp.
I’m starting to think I went a bit overboard with the # of troops.

7- Set up artillery for assault on 2 cities. (In all honesty, I probably could have taken out about 7 Zulu cities by now, but I just can’t bring myself to not shell the city first. I just love the smell of gunpowder in the morning.)

IT- More units.

8- Shell on Persepolis for a bit, get everyone down to 2, but it’s got a lot of defenders.
After seeing 3 panzers in a row blow up & another retreat, I decide our artillery could use another round of practice.
Kill of 3 marines and…………… another leader! He immediately jumps on a transport for home. I put a rush on Fission(90% due in 5 at –200gpt), pretty much just cause I think leaders are cool & don’t wanna waste elite battles without a chance of getting some.

IT- I was right, those Bab transports had exactly 2 Marines & a tank in them.
India & Russia sign a peace treaty. They were fighting??
Our GA ends . :( Ah well, a mech in every city every turn was fun while it lasted.

9- Our bombers finish isolating Zimbabwe from the rest of their cities.
Take out Persiopolis, it comes with 3 artillary! This also means that Shaka doesn’t have rubber anymore, not good news for the guys in yellow!

Pre-flight – 1810 AD – One turn left for ROP with Russia. Time to kill India and Russia.

I wonder how many slaves we have. I don’t even want to count them. Just cause I can I build a colony on the aluminum, oil and horses to our east.

Because I need a few panzers on our continent I change our aircraft builds to panzers.

Fission due in five with a leader waiting to build the UN.

I notice that Berlin is at 98 spt after corruption. If I mine one irrigated tile I can get to 100 USPT. Grab some of our several hundred slaves and do it. That is one Panzer every turn. [party]

Coast is at an even 60 spt. Vine & Ivory are at 82 USPT. Dyes at 80. Nothing we can do there.

Everything is looking good. Ready for the IBT.

IBT – Watch a Bab tank attack a Zulu city and retreat. Zulu and Babs sign a treaty. That will have to end. The Babs declare on US!! :eek: Not a lot of Zulu fight.

3. 1816 AD – I sign a MPP with Persia. We give iron and horses. They give 15 gpt.

Set up a bit of a trap for Gandhi. Leave a incense colony unguarded. In theory. If Gandhi attacks our colony that should set off the MPP and Persia declared on India instead of Germany.

IBT – Zulu and Persia sign peace. X-man comes calling for our TM and I sign him into another MA for the Corporation.
India overruns an incense colony.. No MPP.

4. 1818 AD – Arbela (Bab) razed.
Isandhlwana and the Lighthouse are destroyed.
Intombe razed.

IBT – Finally, India sends a unit our way and Persia declares war on them.
Fission comes in. Ecology next in 27 turns. We need Ecology for Synth Fibers => Modern Armor.

5. 1820 AD - Select UN and rush with leader.
The rest of the world is playing with a city limit variant also. The Zulu are playing with six cities. Russia and India are at OCC. Persia has four cities. The Babs have 10 cities.
Nice to see everything finally getting even.

In an effort to get more productivity, I bump lux to 20% and fire all specialists unless they are out of workable tiles.

IBT – UN is built in Berlin. Would you like to hold an election? What are you nuts?
Actually we could win that way. May peace with everyone. Buy them into a MA against Babylon and we could get the vote…. Nevermind.

6. 1822 AD - Have I mentioned how much I love Naval Aviation? And it isn’t because I was a Navy pilot. :D
We get a leader during the siege of Bapedi. Bapedi and Smith’s are destroyed.

Calcutta is razed and the Glorious Indians are destroyed.

WE ARE NOW AT PERMANENT WAR WITH RUSSIA.

There is one Persian city left on our continent. Otherwise it is ours.

After Action Report. There is a naval task force heading towards the Russian/Zulu island.

There are 13 turns left on the MPP with Persia.

I started moving our military towards Babylon. Please note that there are a bunch of workers under our artillery stack to build a road to get the artillery out quicker. They just got done with the siege of Zimbabwe.

This is my last turn in this SG. I’ll be shocked if it goes more than another 10 turns. Russia and Zula are stuck one an island together. Persia has four cities. One on our continent and three on theirs. Those will fall like a stack of cards. The Babylonians’ counterattack has been one lone bomber. I have started the four carrier task forces headed north. I probably waited too long to start them north, but I thought Zimbabwe was going to be a tougher nut to crack.

It has been great playing with you guys. This has been a challenge, with a lot of hard decisions and some great discussions. It has truly been a pleasure playing with you gents.

I was just going to post "What, no pictures with the lines and arrows and the paragraph on the back of each one"? (If you can identify the source of that line I'll have a real good idea when you flew your first carrier landing)

Likewise on the sentiments in the last paragraph. I will endeavor to finish in as grand a style as my illustrious predecessors, Stapel, Gorm (present in spirit), Gengis and Bugs.

Operation Babyon Falling

Summary
4 cities razed
3 to go

1830-1840

Takes some time to gather the forces for the Battle of Amatikulu. While the units are assembling do a little espionage and uncover the state of the Babylonian military and the strength of the defense in Amatikulu. By 1838 the battle is fully joined:
The defense of Amatikulu consists of four wounded infantry and a heqlthy marine, plus one bomber which has been harassing the advancing force without much effect. Shelling of the city has reduced the population to 10, and destroyed the barracks, market, bank , temple and colusseum, leaving only the acqueduct and a hospital. The General of the army orders a hold on the final assault for another round of artillery fire. The city is sourrounded and can't be reinforced. A mech infantry in the north is holding Hammi's only rubber plantation and his oil is guarded by a Panzer team.

The Battle Orders:

Reduce Amatikulu, then race to the north, bypassing Babylon, destroying Babylon's road and rail network in passing. The weak state of the defense in Amatikulu and the failure of any significant counter attack to emerge from Babylon suggests that the bulk of Hammi's defense is in the northern cities. In a force comparison we have as many Panzers as Hammi has infantry, 37x as much artillery and all of it is pointed at Amatikulu right now, he has three destroyers hiding somewhere and three transports. Our fleet has filled the strait between the continents and the Zulu/Russian Expeditionary Force has revealed no Bab navy to our west.

Hammi loses two tanks against our forces in the north and his healthy marine in a fruitless attempt to break out of Amatikulu. The severely wounded MechInf in the north retreats without carrying out his orders to destroy the Rubber plantation. The plantation is covered by a Panzer.

Hammi will negotiate a peace treaty but won't cede all his cities.

So the Battle of Amatikulu roars to its conclusion:
Massive artillery bombardment shred the defense to ribbons and reduce the population to 7.
Panzers roll led by Bugsy's who destroys two infantry regiments and takes no casualties.
Second Panzer strikes and destroys the third defender, and a new leader emerges, Barbarossa.

The Air Force is destroyed and the city razed.

The Carrier force on the east of the continent is positioned to begin the destruction of the rail and road net at Ashur.

In the west New Jaipur falls to a single Panzer and Russia is no more. Kuibyshev may be a tougher nut to crack as it is held by at least two infantry regiments.

IIRC the order of warfare was England France India Russia Zulu Persia Babylon. So the Zulu have a while to live yet, until 1858, so as not to violate any agreements with Persia.

Our agent in Babylon fails to steal Hammi's plans. Hammi is not pleased and the agent is hung in the Hanging Gardens.

The army surrounding Amatikulu repdeploy to invest Ashur and to cover the flanks from a counterattack from Babylon. I want to eliminate the coastal city as threat to the carrier force. I have seen no sign of destroyers or transports yet.

1840-1850
(1842) I find out the hard way that the Babylonian transports and destroyers have been at sea. A Babylonian tank appears in the west and attacks one of our colonies, held by a single cavalry regiment. The regiment survives the attack and the tank sits smouldering on the plain. The newly produced Panzers will soon go on a Bab hunt.

Operation Babylon Falling moves into position surrounding Ashur. A MechInf exceeds its orders and attacks Babylon head on. The attack is successful and a defender is eliminated but the MI is mauled.

A Panzer in the north test the defenses of Ellipi and is forced to retreat by artillery fire. A second Panzer is destroyed covering the retreat of its wounded comrade but the remianing garrison is revealed as a conscript infantry company. The draftees are easy prey for a third Panzer which is covered by a MechInf.
The final Panzer attack takes the city.

The Carrier Force is now within range of Babylon. The fighter flies recon to light up the target area but the bombers pound on the capitol to little effect.

The Panzer recon in the west reveals that the Babylonians landed at Gordium in the NW and seized the city. They won't keep it for long. It is held by a tank. Panzers move in. The tank kills our green Panzer and a second fresh tank is revealed, The second destroys our next attacker and promotes to elite. Another Panzer attack fails to take the town but the defenders are now crippled. MechInfantry move in and destroy the tanks. That should be the last of the Babylonian tank forces and now we no longer have a Persian bastion on our continent.

Cavalry recon reveals the Babylonian fleet in the NW quandrant heading back to Samarra.

The attempt to replace our man in Babylon fails. Hammurabi is not pleased.

A Babylonian tank appears and destroys the victor of Ellipi and a marine captures the slave. The marine is eliminated by one Panzer and the tank by another.

Newly arrived Panzers form up on the forces in the north while bombers pound Babylon and Ashur. Babylon loses its Barracks and Ashur lose citizens.

Ashur is almost surrounded and will soon be completely cut off from the rest of Babylon.
The captured work force is running rails to the NE from Persian territory.

The assault on Ashur is awaiting the arrival of the artillery

A wounded Bab infantry appears and kidnaps one of our slaves. The slowly healing Panzer army takes him off the count and returns to defending the LZ.

Bombing runs on Babylon destroy the temple.

The isolation of Ashur is complete and the artillery is in position.

The fleet is hunting the Bab navy wrecking the coastal road network as they go.

Xerxes sends a rifleman and an Immortal to join the seige at Ashur

(1846) Battle of Ashur
Shelling destroys the temple, the barracks, the Wal-Mart and cripples the four defenders.
Bugsy's Panzers lead the way into Ashur and destroy an infantry regiment.
A second wave of Panzers eliminates the conscript company.
The third wave eliminates another regiment.
The fourth wave collapses in the face of determined defense.
The fifth hits from the other flank and Ashur is rubble.

Carrier based bombers begin the reduction of Uruk.

Hammi will donate Samarra and Zariqum for Peace but not Nineveh or Uruk. Well I guess we'll just take 'em all.

Another attempt to place a man in Babylon fails.

Persia plants Arbela on the west coast of their continent.

The Babylonian fleet takes refuge in Nineveh.

A lone Babylonian infantryman appears on the mountain.

With the isolation of Babylon complete the detached units form a shield around the forces attacking Uruk.

Bombers fly more missions against the capitol wounding the defense and killing citizens.

Recon forces in the west of our continent take out a barb camp.

Another attempt to plant a spy at Babylon fails.

Carrier bombers hit at Uruk and kill citizens and destroy the barracks.

Two Panzers test the defenses of Uruk and the defenders are found wanting and destroyed.

(1848) Persia and Babylon sign a Peace Treaty.

Recon troops find and destroy another barb camp.

Battleship and destroyer sink a Bab destroyer and transport heading south along the coast.

1850 Battles of Uruk and Babylon
More bombing runs soften the defenses at Uruk. Three vet Panzers attack and two defenders are killed. One Panzer is lost,
An elite Panzer attacks and kills the last infantry regiment revealing a conscript rifle company.
Another elite attacks, slaughters the draftees and reveals another.
A vet Panzer attacks, slaughters the rifle company and reveals a bowman, who falls to the follow-on assault and Uruk is smoke among the mountains.

In an excess of enthusiasm (hubris) brought on by the victory a division of elite Panzers attacks Babylon, led into battle by The Abbot's Regiment.

The carnage is horrendous, the Abbot is the first to die after the gallant tankers eliminate two defenders. The remainder of the division strives mightily to avenge the Abbot's death and with one battalion remaining unwounded in reserve Babylon falls. The survivors regroup behind the Mech Inf screen and the battlefield falls silent.

Notes:

Captured slaves in Babylonia are running rails northward to link to the former Babylon rail net.

The Russian/Zulu ExFor was landed on the south coast of the home continent to scout for Babs or barbs. The transport and battleship pair sailed west to the coast of Babylon. The battleship arrived in time to sink a Bab destroyer and the destroyer screening the carrier sank the transport.

The bulk of the fleet is wreaking havoc on Babylon's east coast and sailing to blockade Nineveh.

I have been landing reinforcements at the LZ on the west coast, which is held by the slowly healing army. The reinforcing Panzers charge up the western railnet and are joined to the forces in the north.

Once Nineveh falls the center of the continent will be neutral territory.

The RoP with Persia has expired but is still in force. Won't be needed in the future but is handy right now.

Research is shut off as I didn't think we'll need MA and I wanted to spend the cash on intel.

The German citizenry is mostly content and lux tax is down to 10%. In most cities we are running shield and food surpluses, so deploying a few USO troupes to keep the homeland happy is not a problem.

Very well played Brother Bede!! I think that the rest of Babylon will fold like a house of cards. Poor Stapel will have to wait around for my stupid deal to expire. Then the next turn the game will probably be over.

Might want to consider a containment on Persia, so they can't build anymore cities.
