RedAlert's city previews

they're all ancient
but each era looks different
there's a description of the first two eras on my post(material needed)

Wow, those are nice, Ekmek. I just might have to convert a few that might be useful. But anyone can feel free to beat me to it :D

1812 - City Graphics pack

I've decided to do a pack of single era (of course) cities for 1812.

So far, for sure it will include:

- British / French
- Spanish
- German / Austrian
- Russian
- United States (which will also serve as the industrial age in my US cities ;) )

And the first preview, of British / French cities. No metropolis, yet.

very nice!
a bit too medieval perhaps...

Perhaps....
But the reason for this (although I'm no expert) is that in Europe, Many centres still retained most of their medieval era buildings by 1812, and in fact, many still do today. For making cities from the dawn of the industrial age, especially for europe, I make the smaller ones almost medieval looking, while the larger ones progress into more industrial looking cities. Thanks for pointing this out.

I like the architecture you've used, but I think the cities could benefit from some color -- unless, of course, your aim is to portray "England's dark Satanic mills".

Best,

Oz

Your right, they could use some colour. I wouldn't like my cities to be all dark and boring looking. How does this look:

Thanks everyone :D

How are these for german / austrian cities? Yeah, yeah, I know, they're the same as the last ones, just different colours, but....
I got lazy ;)

But I promise, the rest will be unique :)

Anyway, the preview is at the bottom of the page. You can ignore this next part if you want, It's just to help me remember:

Whats with the Roman columns? I wasn't aware that any buildings in Europe had the Roman columns other than in Greece and Italy

Neo-Classical architecture. Basically, starting off in the late 1700s, Europe got into a greco - roman craze, which strongly influenced art, architecture, and literature, among other things. The 'movement' also spread to the americas; in fact, Washington D.C. for example has many fine examples of Neo-Classical architecture. Just look at any picture of the downtown of any major European city, and you'll be hard-pressed not to find Neo-Classical style buildings ;)

Edit: Here's an example I scrounged up: The Royal Scottish Academy Building in Edinburgh. It is buildings such as these that has earned Edinburgh the nickname "Athens of the North"

Agreed. Unless, of course, it were possible to add more culture groups.
