GoobNES01: Fallout - Update 11 Peace in our time?
World Weekly News - July 18th, 1968
Peace breaks out across the world - or so it seems
Well, what seemed impossible only 6 months ago has finally seemed to come to finally be - peace in the world. Much of the world is rebuilding though, including the African Federation, the USA, Mexico, and other war-ravaged places. Some wars continue though, including the war in Northern Africa, which continues to consume men and equipment like no other. Also, in Colombia, some action continued in the Civil War between the FARC and the Colombian Government. More on those stories to come. In India, and all those countries devastated by the Tsunami, it has been nearly a year since they were devastated, again, more on that to come later.
PNG, Indonesia given partial Independence!
Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia, which were split up after Australia was invaded, and have been controlled under the rather brutal hand of Moscow since, have finally been given some partial independence. Instead of being runlike a Colony directly from Moscow, Moscow has now installed leaders that are actually representative of those 2 countries. These countries remain under the iron fist of the CER, but we are now starting to uncover tales of what really happened when Austrarlia was invaded in that lightening invasion. We do know that Australia never truly intended to Nuke India, it was just a rather harsh and reactionary tool for negotiating, which backfired most horribly. Generally, we know that the CC troops that have been in control of Indonesia and the PNG have been fairly decent, there have been no stories of houses randomly being searched, and no word of protestors being gunned down. Life has returned to a sense of normalcy, there is still some troubles with some militias in some of the far-flung Indonesian Islands, but that is abating, as the CC military stamps out any resistance. The next step for Indonesia and the PNG is for them to be allowed to have elections, and their own military. Their economies are still doing good, after Australia pumped billions into them. We do have word that there is a somewhat organized group fighting the Russian troops on the Indionesian Island of Sumantra, wanting Independence, obviously, but no word on what the casualties are, or, indeed, if any fighting is taking place at all. Russian troops can be rather inhospitable to WNN Reporters at times.
Hungary invaded - Twice!
In a very curious and odd turn of events over the past couple weeks, the small, Eastern European nation of Hungary has been invaded - twice. By both the Russians from the South, and the Austrians from the West. Now, we know that the Austrians and the Russians were not coordinating this at all, since Austrian and Russian troops were fighting on the few instances when they met. Owing to the nature of the country, and the hyper-paranoid, mostly insane dictator that rules the country with an iron fist, WNN reporters are not able to ascertain exactly what the situation is. We do know that the reason for the CER invading is because of allegations that Hungary was financing the ACL. For Austria, Austria has no real reason, other then they want to "re-unite the Austro-Hungarian Empire". Since Austria is now a DemoFascist nation, waves of Nationalism, and pride about their country and their new leader have been sweeping Austria, and, in a recent poll, upwards of 75% are "100% behind the Government" in their actions against Hungary. Regarding the actual invasion, we do know that everything has not gone all that well. Hungary enlisted the help of a Mercenary Army, the "Black Army", and they are apparently pretty good fighters. The only problem is that they came kind of of late. As the Hungarians, Austrians, and the Russians bomb Hungary to pieces, there remains but one question - who will win? Surely the CER could, if they sent over a larger force. Austria could against Hungary alone. hungary can, if they get more mercenaries. Stay tuned to find out what happens next.
(CER Casualties: 40 Bombers, 10 Tu-22M, 5 Interceptors, 7 Su-24, 4,500 White Guard, 3,000 OMON, 70 T-73/64; Austria Casualties: 5,900 Infantry, 10,00 Volunteers, 20 Tanks, 10 Elephants, 200 Hyenas, 5 Eagles, 10 Bombers, 20 Fighters; Hungary Casualties: 13,000 Black Army Mercenaries, 10,000 Infantry, 110 Bombers, 25 Fighters, 30 Interceptors, 50 Tanks)
Colombian Civil War drags on, FARC winning
In the Colombia Civil War, FARC, after getting substantial assistance from the CC, is now clearly winning, and Colombian forces are close to defeat. Indeed, this battle has been a long and bloody one, but, for the most part, Colombians are cheering the FARC when their section of Colombia is liberated. The FARC is also showing evidence of some of the crimes committed by the Colombian leader. Mass graves with the bones of hundreds of people have been found, and WNN Reporters that were allowed into FARC zones have been reporting of the people saying that the Colombian Dictator ruled with a fist of iron, and a heart of steel. "Anything he said went" says one Lady. "He would round us up, and imprison us, if he had any suspicion that we were defying him. It was terrible. I am not sure if the FARC is any better, but you cannot get worse that that Dictator. I have scars from the time that I was imprisoned, for no reason, of course, and tortured." With the FARC being so close to winning, many are wondering why SADETO stood idly by as Colombia was vanquished by the Communists. Some say that it might be revenge for earlier, when Colombia randomly tried to invade Ecuador. As the CC/FARC troops move in for the kill, many Colombian infantry are fleeing before then, not wanting to die for what is a lost cause. No word on where the Colombian Dictator has gone.
(Colombian Casualties: 25,000 Infantry, 60 Tanks, 30 Interceptors, 15 Fighters; CC/FARC Casualties: 10 Tu-22M, 5 Bombers, 5 Su-24, 10,000 Infantry, 45 T-64/73)
China takes another step towards Democracy!
In a step that the Democratic Party of China had been calling for almost since its inception, China announced a month ago that they were allowing 1/3 of the People's Congress to be elected. This announcement of course set the Democratic Party, as well as the Fascists and the Communists into full-swing election mode, a first of its kind in China. For the past month, all parties have been rallying, going door to door, and acting, well, just like every other Democracy does. The stakes are high here, and that is noticed by the rhetoric. The Communist Party needs to win, and big, to show that they are still the prevailing party. The Democrats needs to do good as well, to get their foot into the door, and prove to Chinese that they are the party to be trusted. As of our Printing time, the election had just finished. We do not yet have results, but they should be soon. We do expect the Communists to get roughly 55-60% of the vote, and the Democrats maybe 40%. Since this was the first ever election in China, people are still new to the Political Process. Seeing all the posters attacking each other is confusing for most Chinese, as is the door-knocking, and the meetings. Still, millions of Chinese across the country are eagerly taking part, and many hope that more steps will be taken to make China completely democratic. With an almost totally Capitalistic Economy, and now these elections, China has changed a lot in only a few years. Many wonder if this change is to stay, or the reaction of the CER to this.
Shippings Attacks slow down in Indian Ocean, continue in Atlantic Ocean
The mysterious force that is attacking shipping from various countries in the Indian and Atlantic Ocean is beginning to abate in the Indian ocean after Japan sent out a sizeable fleet to locate and destroy it. In the Atlantic, however, it is beginning to have a noticeable effect on trade. As the Economics Professor at the University of Moncton says, "If no action is taken by countries, especially Spain, the AF, Brazil, USA, Acadian, Quebec, basically all bordering the Atlantic, then this will start affecting economies, as the cost of trade will increase. Something needs to happen, and fast. The Japanese have been effective with their system of attacking and engaging the pirates, its just that more countries need to wake up, and do something before tragic effects are felt on international economies." The Indian Government has also started to send their Military out after this mysterious group, but has spent more time carefully watching the movements of the Japanese Ships rather then actually find the group. After all, not many ships are going to and fro Indian Harbours and Ports when most are still being rebuilt from the Tsunami.
ALF Continues deadly bombings in the African Federation
The African Liberation Federation is continuing their series of bombings in the African Federation, particularly in the North-West of the country. They have been attacking Government targets, like Military Camps, Bridges, Factories, that sort of thing. They have been very careful not to hit civilians. Their tactics of dressing and acting just like civilians have made them very effective. They have been calling for the "Liberation of Africa from the evil oppression of the African Federation". They do have support in the more Northern Areas of the AF, but less in the Southern portions. One of the problems about catching them is that the AF is so large, it is hard, very hard to patrol, and for the various AF military units to effecitvely communciate, and patrol. The ALF has managed to rob an AF bank, and stolen 2 eco from it. This did not have much effect, as the Government just paid it back, and tightened security even further.
Philippines Missiles intercepted by CER!
The Philippines launched 4 ICBMs just the other day, with the intent of striking Haitian Military Targets, or so claimed the Military. But the Russians, thinking that the ICBMs were being launched at Mexico, or other CC targets, used their ABM system to hit 3 of the Missiles. The 4th landed in Haiti, and destroyed a Military base, and an unknown number of troops. Tensions are expected to rise between the Philippines and the CER, and many wonder if the CER, or other nations will sit idly by while the Philippines keeps on making their little Caribbean Empire. No reports on the damage to the Haitian military, but the WNN has reports of Haiti "going to great lengths" to protect itself, according to one Government Spokesperson.
North Vietnam undergoes series of Reforms
North Vietnam today announced that it is undergoing a series of Democratic-minded Reforms that closely parallel that of the Reofmr that China did. Unconfirmed Rumors state that it seems that North Vietnam might be actually seriously considering changing to a totally Democratic system. South Vietnam has also been making unification overtures to North Vietnam, and has, in a stunning stem, started Diplomatic ties with the North again. They have an embassy in the North's Capital, which is quite a large step for these 2, especially considering the tensions that both have experienced. South Vietnam does seem intent upon unifying the Vietnamese people, but they are very firm in that they declare that such a unification must be "in a totally democratic fashion, and North Vietnam must leave the CC, and never re-enter." Time will only tell as to what this leads to, if anything. Meanwhile, much like China, some Political Parties have started in North Vietnam, some Democratic, some Fascist, and some, well, wanting a Monarchy. And, of course, the hard-line Communists are protesting this every step of the way. In fact, there was rumour of an assassination attempt on the North's leader, but this provided to be speculation.
Commonwealth Union undergoes Economic boom!
The Commonwealth Union is having a good year. In fact, its best on record. Its economy is red-hot, and is growing at a blistering pace, with no end in sight. After parliament defeated the proposal for the CU to join the CU by a very, very wide margin, investors started to invest in the CU once again, and how. The CU has been experiencing economic growth for many years now, but this year, it has one of the best economies in the world, excluding its Colonies, or the other states in the "Union". Some fear that the CU's large debt and inflation might stop this economic tiger dead in its tracks though.
Peace in South Africa
Finally, no more missiles have been raining down, or launched from the AF. Finally, to the relief of every citizen in the African Federation, peace has broken out. And the Government has gotten in the fast lane to repair some of the damage. They have started a very comprehensive "Truth and Reconciliation Committee", which is to look at all the past wrongs that have been committed, and try to rectify them, and to try and start the healing process for millions of africans. Its primary task is the murder of 150,000,000 Nigerians, but it also will be investigating the Apartheid, and the previous regimes in Zaire and Nigeria. According to the AF Government, its goal is to, "to shed light into those dark times and events so that the people of Africa can start healing and working together towards a brighter future." This has calmed down the rioters and protestors, previously, and now AF citizens are looking towards this committee to provide answers. Certainly a lot of explaining needs to happen. The AF has also started on a Social Security/Welfare program, which is employed previously umployed Africans, and giving them low-paying jobs, such as in the Construction Business. We have no firm statistics on how this will benefit the AF in the long term, only time can tell for that.
SADETO continues conversions to DemoFascism, expansion
SADETO is continuing its expansion, and its conversion of its members to DemoFascism. Thanks to some skillful Brazilian arm-twisting, Peru and Venezuela have converted to the new Government type that is sweeping this Continent, or this world, really, "as the way of the future for Fascism", said one top SADETO official. Looking for stability in SADETO, and the disappearance of any perceived threats, the following nations have applied to join SADETO: El Salvadore, Haiti, Nicaragua, and the Honduras. Of these, Haiti and El Salvadore have promised to convert to DemoFascism, and the other 2 say that they are "looking into it". Haiti is also asking for immediate aid against the "Filipino Agressors".
Mystery Group slaughters village!
In a shocking turn of events, what is being billed as a "mystery group", ot "aliens" is being credited for killing every single man, women, and child, indeed, killing everything, and setting fire to the remains in a small Indian Fishing Village. About 200 people were killed. The village was far from any other locations, so no witnesses remain who saw what happened. The civilians were brutally murdered, according to the Indian Government, and Indians are reacting in shock and horror, and demanding action from the Government. Some top Indian officials have speculated that this group might be the same as the one that is disrupting shipping. Some strange marks were found near the site which siggest to some that this might have been the work of "aliens", but Indian Officials were quick to dismiss that, but alternative reasons are few and far between.
Political Unrest evident in Bolivia
In Bolivia, we are getting reports of "political unrest". Due to the extremely paranoid, and secretive nature of the Bolivian Regime, we are getting no word on what is going on, but we have heard rumors that there is an active counter-insurgency against the Communists, and we think taht it is probably a pro-Fascist one. We will keep you updated.
Spanish-UIA War goes Nuclear!!!
In a very stunning series of events, the Spanish-UIA nuclear War has gone nuclear. But first, we shall give you the background of what has been occurring. The UIA procured, from an unknown source, a new type of virus named "Ratpox", or so they call it, and some Short Range missiles. During this phase of the war, it was the UIA that used this Ratpox against the Spanish, and, in one blistering attack, rained Ratpox-filled SRBMs down upon the Spanish soldiers. After this, they launched the largest coordinated attack in, well, probably history, with millions of troops and tanks surging forward in one massive wave, literally, and overwhelming the Spanish, who fought to the last man, in some cases. Spain them quickly got more soldiers and troops from their mainland, and brought over hundreds of thousands of troops in a Counter-attack. Spain was able to eventually stop the UIA offensive, and push it back in some cases, but this event has caused the UIA to gain the momentum, the upper hand. Now, while this was all going on, the UIA stole one of Spain's nuclear Weapons, and launched another WMD attack against Spain, using Ratpox, and their single Nuke to strike at Spanish cities, killing millions of innocent Civilians. The goal was to cause enough panic within Spain as to weaken the Spanish morale, but this specutacularily backfired. Spanish troops in the mainland of Spain quickly quarantined the affected areas, and started doing what they could for the survivors. Spain countered this by firing 5 Nuclear Weapons at the UIA, 4 mounted on smaller, SRBMs aimed at UIA troops, and one aimed at Libya. One more on an ICBM was launched at the Kuwait area. The CER ABM system failed to intercept this missile, for unknown reasons. The Nuked detonated in the Spanish city of Lisbon, killing millions, and devastating this city. Meanwhile, there have been some grumblings in the other parts of the Spanish Empire, particularily France and Italy, about being in a nation which is nearly constant war. The Pope has also issued statements condemning "in the strongest terms possible, the irresponsible and satanic behavious of both Spain and the UIA. WMDs are the weapons of Satan. I call upon both sides to never use any more ever again for the good of Humanity!" UIA officials issued the following statement: "Spain has attacked us and attacked our people with weapons of terrible power, and killed millions of Muslims. This day we struck back and made the score even. We do not have any issue with the Spainish people per se, but the continued Spainish occupation of North Africa is unacceptable, and until they leave North Africa there can be NO PEACE." In Spanish-held North Africa, there have been large protests and riots against the Spanish, full-scale rebelions in some places. Spain still has large numbers of troops in North Africa, but slowly, and surely, they are being pushed to the sea.
(Spanish Casualties: 370,000 Infantry, 70,000 Volunteers, 110 MdlM, 50 Banditos; UIA Casualties: 410,000 Russian-trained infantry, 230,000 Volunteers, 30,000 Infantry, 40 Elephants, 150 T-64, 45 Su-24, 10 Blind Hawks)
