Star Wars: The Mod Strikes Back

Alright, everyone, i can announce that Pleb has officially left the team. :(

What i do advise is that we work out the 6 main consitiuents of the mod before we do anything else; rather than worying too much about what we can do when it is ready, we need to work out the following:
1. Civilizations
-This should be easy, as there are the Rebels and the Empire. Do we want many more, such as the Bounty Hunter's Guild, the Hapans, the Chiss, etc etc.


2. Tech Tree
- I know a tech tree has already been made for the star wars mod, by myself, and i also know it is fairly rubbish. We need suggestions for a better tech tree, or more techs.


3. Units
- We already have a fair few units, and we should compile and organise these, so we can have all our civilizations to be fair - for example, there are stormtroopers of all sorts, but not quite so many rebel troops.


4. City Improvements
- Less of an imprtant one, but we need to work out how to get a good line of buildings, and we will also need to compile graphics for these. Wonders is included in this section.


5. Terrain / Resources
- The terrain will be part of planning the map, but what we could do is have specialist planets, such as Kashyyk, that has a strategic resource wookies, and these wookies are used for certain units, (eg wookie slave and wookie warrior)


6. Governments
- Possible the hardest part, we need to work out what governments we shall use, and how to attribute these to the tech tree. We could use the Civ defaults, of monarchy, despotism, etc etc, or we could change it so that we have specific star wars related governments/religions, such as 'Balance', 'Emperor's new Order', 'Republic', 'Emergency Powers of the Republic', etc.
 
We could use more generic techs, such as 'Energy Tech #', 'Blaster Tech #', 'droid tech #''Computer Tech #', and 'Construction Tech #'.

This would enable us to have a much more detailed tech tree, as these 'core' techs could lead to advance techs, such as 'Sublight Engine', 'hyperspace engine', 'Navcomputer', 'shield generators', 'deflector shield generators', 'graviton technology', 'heavy starships', and others.

Energy Techs would only be prerequisite techs, blaster techs would lead to infantry, computer tech would lead to vehicles, construction tech would lead to buildings, and 'droid' techs would lead to new types of production of new type of workers for the city screen. The other techs, such as 'sublight engines' could lead to other thigns, like fighters, and 'graviton technology' could lead to death stars.

Anyway, methinks that there have been a fair amount of good ideas, but until we get a core of people dedicated to improving/recreating this mod, then however many ideas we come up with won't go far.

I can't help much for now. However, have every intention of helping out after I am done beta testing LOTM, especially in creating/improving spacecraft units.

These are 'indefinite' ones - only possibilities...
5. Chiss (Unknown regions)
6. Hapans (Hapes Cluster)
7. Bounty Hunters Guild (Core)
8. Underground Criminal Cartel (Hutt space)
9. Yuuzhan Vong (Another Galaxy)
10. Yevetha (Koornacht Cluster)

I think we should stick with the four definite ones. Some of the other ones are not really civilizations (Bounty Hunters, Smugglers Alliance) while the others would be extremely difficult to get units made for.

Definately go with those 4. I would also like to see Mon Calamari, Naboo, The Wookiees, Yuuzhan Vong, Hutt Cartel, Hapes Consortium, possibly Trade Federation, Alderaan, or Corellia could be unique enough to make a civilization. It would be tough to make all of those however.

I really want to start making some of the ship units, but right now I'm tied up with wrapping up college and LotM. I should be able to help out more in three weeks, when my finals are done.

1. Mon Calamari, Kashyyk* (Wookie homeworld) Alderaan are planets not sectors, and so can't really be seen as a Civilization in themselves.
2. Trade Federation is a part of the confederacy, shares its units and so there is no point including it as a seperate civilization.
3. Corellia is also a planet, but if we were to use the Corellian sector instead (eg the justice league) we could involve a lot more planets, eg Duros, Talus and Tralus.
4. Yuuhzan Vong and Hapes consortium sound cool but use a completely different unit style so we should leave them out for now
5. Naboo, despite having pllenty of units, is not practical as Naboo is just one planet. We should include the Naboo within the Galactic Republic, and maybe some units carry through to the Rebellion.
6. Hutt Cartel has some units, and so would be an easy civilization to add. Maybe we could have The Bounty Hunters' Guild to represtent Barbarians.

* Wookies should be used as a resource, since the empire uses them as slaves and the alliance uses them as warriors. We could also do this kind of thing with the Noghri as they change sides.

Anyway, I attached a text file with a list city names, leaders, bonuses, etc... we could use for the "Big 4". If I screwed up on any of the names, missed an important planet, or the order just doesn't look right, someone can suggest what changes need to be made to the list if they want to.

Some of the units in your list have been done, but we could always use newer, improved versions of those units.

Right now I'm redoing my TIE Fighter and TIE Bomber units as they were crappy to begin with. However, my progress has been slow since I'm still learning OpenFX and Anim8or and I've had some frequent outside distractions from unit-making. :crazyeye:

Once I get those done I'll prolly either do the Snowspeeder or Mon Cal Cruisers.

EDIT: Where's everyone else at? It seems like were back down to 2 members. :undecide:
 
I still want to be a part of this mod, and I'll pop in with any questions or opinions I have, but I'm busy right now with finals and the LOTM Beta testing. After that, I'll try making units again too, probably ships for the Republic and Confederacy first.
 
I want to be a part of this mod also. I could do the incorporation of the units into the mod, since i can do that pretty quick, but I don't have the patience (or the utilities) to make the units. I think we may be able to use some units from the upcoming game Star Wars: Empire at War, but the units might be in a format that can't be used. Hopefully we can use the units, because they are some really good quality units for the Rebels and Empire.
 
no offense to all the unit creators, but don't most other creators make their units from scratch? isn't it kind of limiting to just use all the units from one or two star wars games?
