Please review the rules before downloading this game.

Games will be due on Sept 10th.

I designed this map a very long time ago but have never played on it. I will be participating in this one.

cool map, nicely done.
So we see the entire map from the start of the game? If not, can you post a somewhat bigger picture of the map, for this one's just a bit too small to make things out. Are we top-right or bottom-right? Are there any huts, do the specials ome in the familiar patterns?

Thank you.

You are not to reveal the map in any way other than normal game play; as the rules say. The tiny rendition you see in the post is in place of a verbal description of the world. I personally do not mind a bit to play on a known map but many people here feel the exploration is a big part of the game and do not want to see the map apriori. This is the best compromise I could come up with. You know the general shape of the world but the actual terrain, the specials, the rivers, the huts, are all unknown.

I guess I can read it off the tiny map because I know it already; but the Persians are top right.

The huts are in the game. The world is round. The map is created using the map editor and thus the specials come in the familiar patterns.

Hope for some units from early huts then head south and southwest to take out the Russians & Mongols respectively before they get too settled. Vikings and greeks may be asking a little much until elephants are available. Could be fun.

My crystal ball predicts you can win a Green Star by conquering in 300AD. But my crystal ball is getting a little old, so I suggest you aim for 100AD-200AD. It also says a Gold Medal requires a GOTM score of about 450 points.

Do you really expect that with restarts on?
I am afraid this is going to be a bit too soon for me :mischief: (playing no helpers, no black-clicking, no bribe... as usual).
Yet, the early game was fun, and I expect that to remain true until the end.
Thank you Ali for the attractive butterfly :)

Well, the map is large, but it's round and very simple, so transportation won't be too difficult. I'm assuming whoever gets the Green Star will have good luck with respawns and will be delayed only about 100 years. [Of course, anyone playing GOTMs in France must expect at least 20 re-spawns per game, and should add 400 years to the forecast] ;)

What about the results from previous games? The Latest Results'-page shows game 51. That's three months ago! Am I looking in the wrong place?

I have never gotten a green star and I doubt if I ever will, but anything under 500 on this map sounds unbelievable. I say anything under 1000 would be impressive.

You are not looking in the wrong place. The results are typically updated once every 3-4 months anyways. Right now the results are behind only 2 months (GOTMs 52 and 53) as GOTM 54 is not due till this weekend.

I am a Mac user myself. The game file was created on a Macintosh running Mac OS 8.1. My version of civ2 is the single player version.

I will send you another copy if you think that helps (you have to give me an Email as I cannot send an attachment via forum private messages.)

Any other ideas, anyone?

Well, when I click on the attachment, it automatically downloads something to my hard drive which it calls GOTM55.sav - but it cannot be read by my CivII program. If I use my web browser to "download file to disk" I get a file called "attachment.php" which also cannot be read by my CivII program. I also tried renaming that last version to have a .sav suffix and it still did not appear on the list of loadable games in my CivII program.

Any suggestions will be welcome.

Sorry, grigor, my knowledge of Mac is NIL...
but I am fairly sure that someone will find a way to help you have fun with that beautiful butterfly :goodjob: .

I just downloaded the file off the link (by simply clicking on it) and my Civ2 program (on a Mac) opened it just fine. I am puzzled.

I can never open the files automatically. Here is what I do in Macos 9.2.1 (but anything from 7 will work the same):

I use ResEdit, a freeware program which is available from http://www.tucows.com/preview/207025 among others.
In ResEdit, don't open a file, but use "get file/folder info" from the file-menu.
Open the gotmxx.sav file
Select the whole "Type" field and enter CV2G
Select the whole "Creator" field and enter Civ2
(Selecting the whole field deletes any hidden characters or spaces, entries are case sensitive!)
Close and you can play the file!

have fun,
Raymond

Thank you. I tweaked something in the internal workings of my download situation and was able to access the game. It is an especially fun one so far.

Glad to hear the issue is resolved. Thank you SirBois for your suggestion. But it makes me wonder why you need that. My civ2 is on a Mac, and I just download the GOTMs and start playing without a problem.
