LINES-World of Magic

I think trade would be easier to manage if it was a full economy point per round.
Yup,I agree with you on that.
And what wrong with hyperpowered economy(makes things exciting as superpowers rise and fall), ... <snip>
Proximity becomes overpowered to the point of bah-roken. Simple as that. Since more nations usually start in Europe than anywhere else (and gain contact faster), it's like declaring "Europe win". (Or Eurasia, possibly.)
The incentive to trade rather than war becomes ludicrously high. Now, if invading gained you 1 spending point for every turn of continuous warfare after the first, the system might head towards balanced... although it would still be super-powered and therefore more susceptible to abuse.

P.S. Name three bronze age (you're all bronze age, in case you forgot) civilizations who traded with foreign nations and earned a substantial profit.

Counter: Gamebalance is boring, anyho the rewards for conquest should almost always be powered up in NESes.
Bronze age nations didn't trade much but we got different kinds of magic now; this seems to me more like some sort of go-between ancient history and medieval times... landing roughly somewhere in the middle iron ages. Really, enourmous income from trade will be groovy, we'll go all merchant league on each others!!

I so despise stat-bundling and it is roughly 66% of the reason why Celtic Warmongers is the best NES ever.

For those who don't know what stat-bundling is it's when a successful warmonger kills two-three-five of his neighbors and absorbs anything between the damaged foundations to a complete and fully healthy vibgrant super-economy many times his own ecnomy and all he gets is +1 spending point. Anyways we never argued realism; as Cleric said it would be hyperpowered trade with diminishing returns as economies grow but more as transportation improves. The thing is it would be really easy to manage and empires would rise and fall.
Of course to balance the realism farmland income could be introduced (seems like a standard thing in the old-type fresh-start NESes) and LordIggy could simply refrain from atrocious stat-bundling and give a conquering nation the full damaged income with potential from it's defeated enemy and maybe introduce a warchest option.

I know it sounds complicated but it's not worse then having a seperate list or 1/3 2/3 3/3 +1...
...

Antarctica
4/1/5 + 3 Trade (Ross, Tika, Biss) = 7

invades

Australia
2/1/3 + 1 Trade (Dutch) = 3

Australia suffers one economic point of damage during the war...
new stat.s

Antarctica
4/1/5 + 3 Trade (Ross, Tika, Biss) = 7
Dominionship of Australia: 1/1/2 (+2 forced trade with Antarctica) = 3
Total Income = 10

Also depending on the size of the Antarctican army it would cost 1, 2, 3 or even 4 economic points per round at war so the Antarctican economy would be drained at the end of the war.
Unrest and unwillingness to work for overlords might also dampen the Dominionship.

The Account of Ulyssion, Commander of the Valusian Expedition

I begin this log on the 230th day of the 976th year since the remnants of the Hyperborean people were cast forward in time, but I choose to date the entries since the day the silver mantle of command was laid on my shoulders by the Lord in Green himself.

Day 1

There was a grand celebration in the capital to commemorate the commission of our epic voyage. At high noon on this spring day the men of the expedition were gathered in the central plaza, and half the city was out to cheer them on. At the front stood the senior officers and priests, with the lower ranks arrayed in tight formation behind them, culminating in the merchants at the back – standing as proud as any man to cross the ocean waves. The Lord in Green placed the mantles of command on the warrior leaders; copper for the captains, silver for me, then in a remarkable show hailed each of the other men and women of the expedition by name!
The men, my men, turned and began to march down the main thoroughfare to the portals by the docks. The streets were flanked with men, women and children, all raising their hands in the Rune of Courage and cheering; for no deed of this magnitude had been attempted for many a year.
Arriving at the Portal, its fisheye distorted image of what lay beyond breaking into simmering rainbows at its edge, a delegation from the Blue temple awaited us with the most important supply of all for our voyage. Lying sealed in a black wooden case about the length of a man and carved with sigils to many gods; the Tuning stone for the portal we would take with us. Its Twinstone lay already ensconced atop a tiny gate nearby in the port complex – the membrane a mere ten foot tall and six wide when fully open this gate would allow us to resupply ourselves from the capital whenever we made land fall and assembled the support structures we were taking with us. The high priest of the temple gave the tuning stone into my priest’s guardianship, who assigned six strong men to carry it.
I strode up to the portal, leading the expedition through as was proper, stepping across countless leagues to Ea-Yhoundeh on the bitter Avalonic Sea, were our fleet awaited.

Day 17

The twenty ships in the fleet were well practiced now and we have made a five day excursion south along the coast to test their seaworthiness. They made a beautiful sight as they came into the harbour of Ea-Yhoundeh in perfect formation around the flagship the “The Plow of the Deep”. The supplies and trade goods have been arriving in a steady stream through the Ea-Yhoundeh portal and the loading has continued unabated. Also arriving through the portal have been a number of our Elgovian allies, considerably enlivening the cities colour with their flowing and chaotic dress. They are still reassembling the ships they sent trough – I am slightly perturbed about how they will handle on the wild northern sea, having primarily been used for river transport before now, but once they have some practice with our skilled pilots I’m sure they’ll shape up. Their river barge canniness has already paid off however and shown us several clever ways to pack our goods we might not have thought of before.

Day 24

The head of the current Elgovian contingent informs me that the ships from the south carrying his magician leaders and their magical goods should arrive in less than 10 days. I order a small feast to be made ready for their coming and hope that we can loft sail soon after they arrive – the men are eager to be on their way. We are also still awaiting the arrival of our Avalonian guides; I do wish to look upon the wonderful living ships the first expedition told of and to send their delegation on to the capital.

OCC: Theirs a lot more to come.
@Erik what will the name of the elgovian leader be?

Gorin Inperson Diplomancy-
"speach less, I see" Lady morgan said after silence had dominated the court for aproximantly a minute. she quickly motioned the the cheast to be closed, then carfully took the Last gift from the avalonian carrying it and held it toward Merzan. "this is My final gift, and it is not to you, but your people. This, is the Vacinne for the Plauge of Age. This is the water of Life. dilute it one drop to 10 gallons, give a cup the diluted mixture to a person, and they will be free of old age. for a child, they shall mature, then be freed forever. to an Adult, it will only last for about 300 years, and subsiqincent doses will do nothing." she waits for somebody to retrive the vile from here, her eyes idialy roaming over Merzan's body. "and that is all the gift I have to give to you, unless you wish to accept a personal one from me someplace privat? you are quite hansome..."

To Hyperborean:
We have dispached our fleet to meet and assist your. but first, we must travle a bit south fof your city to cunduct some bissness. we shall meet up with you shortly once this is done. (it consist of 19 out of 20 of the Avalon tree ships, note, by now, most of these are now 1.5 times bigger then an average ship. it also holds the ARS Avalon, which is currently about 3 times bigger then the biggest of the other tree ships.)

OOC:
To lord Iggy:
I didn't get to post on the Trade route discusion, but even though it is already decided, might I make a sugestion?

initially, use the original trade route plan you had (0/3,1/3,2/3,3/3,0/3,1/3,2/3,3/3)
but after the third point gained, have it grow into a faster trade route.. (0/2,1/2,2/2,0/2,1/2,2/2)
and this one continues for 5 cycles, at which point it makes a final growth to (0/1,1/1,0/1,1/1)
It prevents the intial mega-echonamies that you fear, makes the trade route valueble after 12 turns, and precious after 15 more turns. It also ups the consiquince of breaking (the tiem spens to get it soe productive) and blocking (pervents income and growth) the trade route of an enemy nation.

Merzan frowned and motioned for Krippa to take the both boxes "these gifts shall serve the Gorin people well, and we shall see to it that they are used for good" He managed a smile, though rage was beginning to grip him (which was common among Arch-Magi)
"perhaps" he said in response to Lady Morgan's question "you are welcome to stay where you wish and my chambers are always open if you wish a private talk" he said rather plainly, though his eyebrows twitched in both irritation and surprise at what Lady Morgan had suggested.

ooc wierd, but tag

OOC: ^_^ she is toying with you on so many levels. (and she is only partly fakeing it, and sheilding her inner thoughts). but she won't break her word.

IC:
Lady morgan smirked internaly upon noticing Merzan's reaction. externaly, she frowned. "oh.. well. theny not really. perhapps at a later tiem though?" a faint, hopefull smile flitting her her face. then her face cleared and she bowed to him. "but for now, I should be off to return to my people.." and so she then gracfully left the court of Merzan.

Merzan's brow twitched again at Lady Morgan's words "very well" he said bluntly and bowed his head a little, though his temper was flaring up to a dangerously high level and the thought of lighting everything on fire floated across his mind but thankfully left. "Krippa we shall have to watch that woman carefully" Merzan whispered to Krippa. Krippa grunting in agreement before he and Yusha toke up the gifts and took them to the vaults
"she would be a difficult enemy Lord Merzan" Krippa said with the 3 stones under his arms "so you should not watch her to carefully, else she might be offended"

ooc tricks are for kids :p

The small, humble Korean capital city was abuzz with noise, Mongolian and Chinese soldiers celebrating their victory in the streets of the city, the former enemies acting like brothers. Even some of the citizens of P'yongyang joined in the festivites, the heavy Mongolian drinking, and the humble Chinese celebratory dances spurring those fearful citizens into enjoying the wealth and power of the Vassal and master nations.

Temujin the Immortal looked on with a bored expression on his face, atop his make-shift throne upon P'yongyang's palace steps. He was bored, mainly because he had foreseen the events, and thus many of the tricks meant to entertain him, only bored him. There was no surprise, nothing interesting ever happening except battle after his discover, and ascension to most powerful Mage in the East. Time was an open book to him, and Temujin found no solace in its wide ranging knowledge.

Motioning to his advisor, Temujin waited patiently through the Chinese acrobatics as his advisor leaned in close to the Khan. "Gather the Emperor of China, the Emperor's governers, my loyal Generals, as well as the Chinese Generals, and the town leaders of Korea. Gather them quickly, for I have no time to waste." said Temujin. As the advisor quickly nodded his ascent, and began to walk away, Temujin called out to the man, "And while your at it, I wish for you to bring me the most beautiful Korean woman you can find...for after the council." The advisor blushed slightly, before walking quickly to a nearby Time mage, asking for the Mage's teleportation services.

Temujin returned to being bored, watching his army celebrate, and the citizens of Seoul join in the rowdy drinking and festivites. At least the Korean woman coming to entertain him were good looking...

*****

After one day and numerous teleportations, the council Temujin had called, bar the pretty Korean girl reserved for afterwards, sat in the palace of P'yongyangl. A large, round stone table sat in the middle of the palace courtyard, teleported in by several Time mages. Koke gaurds stood stotically, watching both the council, and the enterances. Temujin sat in the most lavish chair, higher than the other chairs surrounded the black stone table.

"I have gathered you all here," spoke Temujin after a long period of uncomfortable silence, "for the purpose of battle plans, rewards, and orders." A gentle murmur swifted through the gathered men, the loudest of which the Korean town leaders, unsure of their purpose of in this council.

"Korean Leaders, your leaders have fled from Korea, leaving you to fend off our supposed, barbaric influences. I could burn your cities to the ground, slaughter you population, rape your women, and claim all your land, yet, I won't do that. I could, but I won't." Temujin paused here, looking straight at each and everyone of the sweating Korean leaders.

"Instead, I will ask that your cities and towns pledge alligence to me, to the Khan of Khans, and that your towns pay their taxes, their tribute the same as everyone else in the Empire. Do this, and I will offer you glory in victory, and the wealth of the Empire. If you refuse and rebel, then I will grant you death." The Korean town leaders almost shouted their agreement, their quick ascent earning them leave from the council as Temujin waved them away. The leaders left extremely quickly, terrified of the Immortal Khan.

Temujin then looked at the Emperor, governers and generals of China, and regarded them for a moment. They were aging, and winkled by life, while Temujin and his general were kept young and fresh by the powers of Time magic. "China has served Mongolia well these many years, giving faithful service both domestically, and militarily. If there is one thing I respect, it is loyalty. And if there is one thing I reward, it is loyalty. Stand, all of you." At the Khan's words, the Emperor, Governers and generals of China, all powerful, stood wordlessly. Temujin concentrated for a moment, before waving his hand effortlessly at the standing men. A blue wave emitted from the Khan's hand, washing over the Chinese portion of the council. As the blue wave hit, Time was reversed upon the ailing bodies, reverting to a youthful age. The affected men kowtowed joyously, their limbs no longer stiff with age, their bodies brimed with energy.

Motioning them to sit down, Temujin continued the council. "Now, for the military aspect of this council..."

Saturday. And great story Contempt, but you were wrong on one detail. In this game Korea's capital is (edit: was) P'yongyang.

Okay, I'm holding a vote here. Who wants to have superpowered trade?
Ie: you get a bonus economy every turn, but I'll make it harder to start trade. Shorter trade routes will cost 3 eco. points over three turns, longer ones will cost more depending on the length and danger level of the route. It'll be easier for you and me, and it seems that the majority of you want it. Yes, so the Europeans will have a bonus. That will be mitigated by magic making the world somewhat smaller,(metaphorically) so the American nations can trade in Europe soon. I'm perfectly willing to start this as soon as the next update.

Against, and I'll edit my story Iggy

2 for, 1 against.

Oh, and Tot's right. I'll give conquerors more economic bonuses for conquering territory, starting now.

hmm I vote Nay.. I would perfer it to have a many turn investment befor it became super powered (see my example). they start off week, but if you can keep them alive for 10+turns, they Really start to rake in the cash (basicly, they are a long term investment). being able to invest in a trade route to instantly get a one point echonamy? no way.
