Since the new patch has been released before GOTM1 closes, I would like to give you a warning...:

Use v1.09 for playing GOTM1 if you havent finished it yet.. there are several changes that changes the gameplay with the new patch, most of them will be a disadvantage for you if you use 1.52 vs 1.09.. most importantly:

- Praetorians got more expensive.
- There are some changes in score system that will most likely give you a lower score.
- Some techs got more expensive..

If you do play with new patch I have no clue if the game will get accepted, that is up to Ainwood to decide I guess.. I just wanted to give an advanced warning since he isnt online :)

Thanks for the post.

Guess I won't bother finishing my game that I was going to submit, must be around 1600 AD now.

Tells me I shouldn't have put off finishing this game also, though it had got really, really dull.

NEXT TIME :D

It is possible to set it up so you have both a 1.09 and a 1.52 version of the game btw..

Patch current install to 1.09 (if it isnt already).

Make a copy of the Civilization 4 dir (call it whatever you like.. eg civ4 1.09)

Patch to 1.52

Your normal game will now be v1.52 , but if you browse to inside the other dir you made and make a shortcut for the Civilization4.exe inside it, this game will be v1.09.

Is it possible to play the 4OTM1 with the new patch at all, without errors?
If not, it would be nice to have a patched version of the starting file.
Obviously it won't count for the competition, but at least then we can still play it after installing the new patch.

I just tried opening one of my GOTM saves in 1.52 and I couldn't (because they were pw protected.) IIRC, Ainwood/AlanH had to open the original (1.00) save and resave it in 1.09 before folks with 1.09 could open it and play.

In a related note, does this mean that those saves (the ones I made while playing) are essentially gone for good unless we want to keep 2 different versions of Civ4 on our computer? I'm just wondering if (after the GOTM is over) there will be some way we can unlock them. I like to keep all my old saves archived, from my first Civ4 game on settler until now. It would be a shame not to be able to get back into the GOTM saves for review purposes. :(

Maybe, on Jan 1, ainwood can just post the password publicly, and then you'll be able to use it to unlock the saves?

Thanks, Gyathaar!

Unfortunately, we won't be able to accept submissions from people who play under v152 - the rules changes make the games uncomparable.

If you loaded the save file without the password protection, then I suggest that you either do a dual install, or you complete your game and submit before installing the patch!

Those with the password protected games should complete and install first, but they will find the save will not open in v152.

Next game, all will be required to play under v152.

I assume that GOTM2 will be played with the new patch?

Right now i can go about ten turns before i have to quit GOTM1 due to memory probs...
