Welcome to the Interactive OSS Node!

Four large buttons floated on the screen: "Colonization Underway", "OSS Statistics", "Applying for OSS" and "The Space Around Us". Eliza pressed the last one, and the screen flicked over to a display of the local star cluster.

I'm lucky I got in on the Colony Lottery... let's take a look at the systems, shall we?
Pointing the cursor over each common system in turn displayed a short blurb about each of them.
Spoiler ENEMSI :
The Enemsi System contains a G-class star and seven planets.
A moon of the fifth planet is the home base for a rogue pseudo-terrorist group.
Approximately three months ago a scoutship was destroyed by this faction. Dictator Jared has recalled multiple fighter fleets to deal with this thread.
Colonization is expected to be initiated in a year.
Hm. We're not going there, then. What else is there?
Spoiler NOX :
Nox is well suited to human habitation. The F-class star is circled by eight planets, of which two are acceptable for planting colonies, although all are relatively hostile. Most of the colony efforts directed here are of recent construction.

Spoiler SABRO :
The highly hostile Sabro system is occupied by ruins of the Old Dominion. Efforts are underway to establish a scientific research outpost here. The system will be off-limits to civilian personnel for the coming year at the outside.

Spoiler BRODER :
The only nearby system with a substantive asteroid belt, Broder will harbor only colony bases and no true habitation for quite some time to come. However, several mining groups have expressed interest in system extraction rights.

Eliza brushed the all-meta on her wrist lightly. Half an hour until docking for transfer, it read. "Yeah, I have time," she said, turning back to the computer screen. Apart from Oncol itself, several other stars were displayed on the map. Eliza stared at them, wondering what might lurk on these frontiers of space...
Rolling her eyes and snapping herself back to reality, she brought up the information for the first of them.
Spoiler COLOS :
Colos System
K-class Blue Star
Hub System
5 Routes Exiting System
HEF detected on 1 route
Distance 2 from Oncol
Spectral: 148,341 72,192 91,860 17,203 561,544
Gravity 1,16 30-26-55
...
"What?" Eliza shook her head at the barrage of numbers. Why the sudden change in format?
"Find something interesting?" came a voice from behind her. Eliza jumped.
"You scared me, Jeska! Don't do that!"
"Whatever." Jeska slumped down on a stool next to Eliza and starting nibbling on her hair.
"Lookup, one, Spectral," Eliza muttered, brushing her all-meta. "Context, one, star."
"Don't bother," said Jeska, grabbing her wrist. "It's boring. I already looked it up." Jeska looked over at Eliza's display. "Colos, eh? Weird system. Apparently it used to be a major hub for the Old Dominion. Not worth your time, though. We're heading the other way, to Broder."
"Whaat? Where did you hear that?"
"From my father. He's a member of Group Thirteen Thirty-Seven. But you never heard that from me." Jeska flashed Eliza a grin, then turned to her own computer and buried herself in what appeared to be mineral research.

Thirteen Thirty-Seven

This group most certainly does not exist. But it's not a dark and secret nonexistence, it's a tongue-in-cheek nonexistence. Since Oncol used to be a research planet, many of the people living there are still hackers, and the hackers have preserved their culture for a thousand years.
The spirit of "joy before victory" is still prevalent in the ongoing battle between 1337 and the government. Whoever happens to be employed as a government employee need only send a copy of the next public announcement to a colleague, and they can be confident that 1337 will have it distributed planet-wide within an hour (which saves the government a good deal of expense), so they attempt to codify their documents and run a "tight ship" where strict protocols ensure that no information ever spreads beyond its boundaries prematurely. 1337, however, stakes its prestige on infiltrating the government and making sure that no secret is safe. But on the gripping hand, they have an established honor system, so for documents that really need to be kept secret, it is enough to write "Please leave alone" at the top.
Thus, the Oncol empire has a culture of freedom of information at the same time as they have some of the most advanced cryptography/decryption mechanisms available.

"We're trying to keep our leaders honest, not bring the government down." -anonymous 1337 member.

So, if you don't mind my asking, what Anime are you all pulling these things from?

Also, tech-trading rules will be added on the next update.

@Gelion: You will be added on the next update. Your stats will appear then, and I will make minor adjustments reflecting the level of development the other factions have. You won't be perfectly even with them, but you won't be handed a disability, either.

Thanks Darwin. The anime is called Robotech an american version of Jap anime Macross (I think thats the name). You could read about it on Wiki:
http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Robotech
I watched it when I was very little and still cannot get over it. However my faction is not 100% in line with the series. I just like the Spartan feel of Zentraedi.

"Tourist Bureau"??? Let's see, I have a story and a ridiculous in-joke. You, however, could probably get a moderator action for hotlinking someone else's images. Be careful of that!

Excuse me?
1. If hotlinking is not allowed plz link me to the rule saying that and I will remove it.
2. You made a joke. I made a joke. Whats your problem with that?

Uh, I didn't get your joke, Gelion.

Darwin, when is the update?

Well lets forget about it...

The update is set for 11th as far as I can recall.

Kam and Gelion. Both of you will be added on this update.

Everything should be balanced out, as we lost a couple players.

The update will begin tomorrow. Orders if you haven't sent them (discluding Kam and Gelion) are due 0900 EST.

And if you haven't written a story yet, I highly suggest you do so.

Thank you. That is all. ;)

Darwin I hope its okay if I do orders in 5-6 hours.

OOC: Orders sent

News Release

Colony fleet arrives at Centaus! Establishment of a colony has been planned and should be completed shortly. If you wish to become a colonist in the hopes of a better life another expedition has been sent to another neighbouring system of Emey with plans for a Colony to be established there also. Furthermore a regular Transportation service between Mirian Secters has been planned and funding for such a project will be made avaliable sometime next year.

.....

If you are a buissness and want to establish yourself as an Intersteller trade please contact the Military Expeditionary Office for updates on findings in the Galaxy, if you still wish to continue you will need to approach the Mirian Trade Organisation to obtain a contract and lisence. Please note that Intersteller trade is a risky buisness and currently no one will cover you for loss of life or ships. Secondly if you make contact with Xenon you MUST contact military Command.

....

Contact Has been established with an alien race as the Expeditionary Fleet 1 met an alien race. Unfortunatly contact was brief as the EP1 Immieditaly found itself surrounded and forced to leave the system. As such the Mirian Empire has decieded that a Stronger Space Fleet is required and extra funding and initiatives for Engineers will be made in the future. A Contract has already been gained by SunStorm Engineering for the creation of Miria's first Cruiser Class Warships. Operational capacity will begin soon and it will be sent to guard Centaus in case of alien attack.

Gelion (and Kam).. no orders this update from the two of you. Don't worry, things'll be evened out somewhat for your start.

Actually if as it seems that you already started the update then please NPC us. You know the game better and we will get into it with the stats.... (me and Kam)

Hey, Darwin, you're posting in StKnes, why is there no update? :p

The following report is the original examination of the 4th planet if the Byblos system.

*****

Planet Name: Byblos Delta
Star: Byblos
Star type: Large Yellow
Planet type: Largely oceanic with stable crust.
Possible Uses: Agriculture, Reasearch, Construction, Mining

The fourth planet of the Byblos system is the most habitable world discovered yet, after Haven of course.

90% of it is covered in shallow oceans, rich in countless forms of aquatic life. The remaining 10% is islands covered in small, round hills. Geological activity has nearly ceased on this old world.

At first, we were surprised by the lack of any large photosynthesisers in this ecosystem. But we quickly discovered that the powerful constant winds prevent anything larger than carpet plants to take hold. These high winds will be useful should we colonize this planet, for their electrical generation value.

There are virtually no large life forms out of the water, possibly explaining why the grasslike plants flourish so much...

OOC: Oops, gotta go to school now. I'll finish this in about 9 hours.

Simmer down, simmer down... Orders and stories were DUE by 0900 this morning. That was when the update was to begin.

However, due to an overwhelming burden and minor crisis here at work, I will accept orders and stories up until midnight tonight. The update will be worked on TOMORROW, and hopefully posted by tomorrow afternoon. I'll be working from home, so I should have no problems.

'Sides.. you all should be used to updates that take a day or two. :)

ya i'm w/ gelion - i don't want to do orders w/o having the actual stats on there already, so just keep me NPC, too, like introduce me in the update and i'll do orders for the next one, k?

continued

The habitability of this planet is most likely due to dominion terraformers from ages past. The fact that these grasses have been described on other planets makes this almost certain.

On one of the smaller islands, we found organized metal ruins several meters underground. We theorize that this was once an outpost, long since abandoned. It is possible that this planet was on the verge of being mass colonized when the Scourge knocked humanity out of space.

One of our researchers managed to find a computer terminal. It was extremely old, but hard information in it proved our theories to be true. Apparently, the humans here starved to death during the time of the Scourge, lacking animals to hunt or deliveries from space.

It is our concensus that this planet should be colonized immediately. Its potential uses are huge, and the cities of Haven are beginning to crowd. It is time for Haven to expand beyond its own home system, and begin the long rebuilding of a human nation to span the Galaxy.

OOC: Darwin, how much of humanity's ancient history do our nations know about?
