Update 6- Years 592-679: Slain Sibling
As the nation of Veritas finally began to calm down and consolidate its considerable gains, and assimilate is numerous converts, it began running into various problems, as its legacy of conquests returned to haunt it.
First off, the occupied Zibonese. Ever since their defeat, the Zibonese lived as second-class citizens, or even slaves to Veritasians, many of whom felt that the dark-skinned men and women were only half-human.
While the Zibonese were broken and leaderless without their leaders, who escaped Veritas, the Veritasian public still feared that the defeated people would someday rebel. Paranoia and racism on both sides continues to be a problem for Veritas.
Meanwhile, the Kalmar people, believing that they would live as full citizens in Veritas, have been somewhat disappointed. For their lands have become populated with Veritasians, attempting to escape the ever-growing crowds of their homelands. With this, the Kalmar feel that the Veritasians are trying to water out or assimilate their distinct race and culture.
Another Kalmar problem is the missing navy and army. It seems that a good amount of Odin loyalists still live, and regularly raid Veritasian trade vessels and military patrols. They call themselves The Sons of Odin, and are led by a former Kalmar Admiral by the name of Thoram. Veritasian attempts to root out and destroy this resistance have yet to succeed.

The final problem confronting Veritas is, in a way of speaking, all of the above. Supporting their massive population and economy is stripping the lands of their wealth, replacing vast forests with farmland, and depleting fish stocks. Famines could prove to be highly destabilizing for the Veritasian nation.
So far, they are taking on these challenges with considerable success.
Veritas has also begun to fortify its northern border against possible Eldranian attacks. A small expedition sent to locate the Emorans has not been heard from since its departure.
The Emorans are quickly establishing themselves on their new land. They have so far found it devoid of human settlement. The Emorans have also begun work on a great monument in the center of their new capital, the Tomb of Emrus. This great statue will someday be inscribed with the tale of the Emorans voyage to the new lands, to ensure that the monumental voyage is never forgotten.
The Mogul Empire is beginning to weaken, as growing corruption and stagnation begin to take their toll. (Send orders Finmaster, or be NPCed)
The mighty legions of Eldrania continue their reign of terror. Once again raising a great army from their seemingly inexhaustible homelands, their forces struck northward into Gargari. While it was not a full invasion, it was enough to occupy the Gargari so that the Eldranians could focus on other fronts.
Specifically, more Gargari fronts.
A second Eldranian army trekked over the precipitous peaks of the Keran Range, and came charging down into the city of Gar Korays. Gargari forces scrambled into position, and a great battle took place. For hours, the two forces battled viciously, but in the end, Eldranian zeal won out. The Gargari were forced to flee their capital, and it was pillaged by the Eldranians. Things were going well for the invaders.
But several unfortunate twists of fate proved to be fatal for the Eldranians. Winter set in early that year, and the routes through the mountains that were barely passable in summer were now totally blocked.
Cold and starvation set in, and for all the wealth they had taken from Gar Korays, they could eat none of it. Discipline remained iron however, and the general declared that cannibalism of the dead would be allowed under these extreme circumstances.
And when the Eldranians were at their weakest, Gargari attacks began. Throughout the winter, raids gradually whittled down the Eldranian army, down to just a few hundred men. But these were the cream of their nation. And they were not to be defeated.
The Eldranians held onto Gar Korays for the whole, miserable winter. At the first sign of spring, they managed to send messengers back to Eldrania, requesting relief. But the Eldranian armies were unable to send help, so the northern army was forced to withdraw from Gar Korays. But the city was torched and utterly razed before they left.
The reason that the southern armies were unable to help was because the Aneyans, allied with the resurgent Dula survivors of the Dula-Hathran genocide, were attacking over the Kalmar River into Eldrania, to the south of the fortifications. The Eldranian forces occupying southern Gargari were forced to abandon their gains and hold out the invaders.
The end result of all this fighting is something of a stalemate. Gargari and Eldrania are bled white of manpower, and the Aneyans and their allies are having great difficulty crossing the Kalmar River and successfully holding a beachhead.

The nations of Kehexou and Tekrehexou continued to prosper, with regular trade and a strong alliance keeping them together, their only division being religion. But this bliss was not to last.
Khemri had been eyeing the lands of Kehexou and Tekrehexou for many years, secretly hungering for their bountiful seas and powerful navies. For all of these years, it had been preparing its armies. And now, it unleashed them.
The great armada of Khemri passed silently into Tekrehexou waters. Before the Tekrehex could figure out what the ships were for, they found that they had blockaded all of their ports, and that the vast majority of their fleet was trapped, at the mercy of Khemri and the outgoing tides. Their time was limited.
But some ships that were out at the time of the blockade fled to Kehexou, and pleaded for assistance. The Kehexou army and fleet was mobilized immediately, and raced north to help its overwhelmed bretheren.
As Kehexous fleet was heading to Tekrehexous aid, the mighty army of Khemri finally had a chance for a true test. Led by mighty divisions of Royal Pikemen, the skilled leaders and huge forces of Khemri quickly overran the Tekrehexou countryside, and all cities except the capital of Tregnau. It was then that Kehexou arrived.
While its weapons were poorer, the skill of Kehex sailors is not something that can be denied. They broke the blockade of Tregnau, and allowed the few remenants of Tekrehexous fleet to escape, along with King Laraya III of Tekrehexou and his family.
But Khemri was still strong. And now its eyes turned to Kehexou. Kehexous mainland colony was quickly conquered, and the great fleet of Khemri sailed south. It began to raid Kehexous main island, at first with good success. But the Kehex soon adapted to these hit and run tactics by spreading out its navy. So all over the seas of Kehexou, galleys would meet and engage in single combat, like pawns in a great game of chess. Khemri would seek to defeat their adversaries and gain a chance to raid the coast. Kehexous sailors sought to sink the enemy ship, and claim another victory in the defense of their country. Countless heroics, remembered or unremembered have taken place, but there has still not been a decisive confrontation between these two nations.
The occupied population of Tekrehexou is split roughly evenly over what to do. Half accept occupation, as they are now part of the holy nation of their religion. The other half resent Khemri despite this, although their nature is not normally violent enough to bring revolts. And a few radicals have sworn off their religion, and attempt to convince their fellow Tekrehex to overthrow the Khemri.
Kehexou, as expected, rejected an offer of surrender to Khemri.
So Khemri massed its navy, and began a single, massive invasion of Kehexou. The Kehexou managed to detect the massing Khemri fleet just in time to collect their own. The two navies met at Tellex point on the northwestern corner of Kehexous main island, and a great sea battle took place, on the scale of the massive confrontation of Veritas and the Kalmar Union centuries earlier.
The two navies were roughly equal in size. Khemri was better armed, and Kehexou was better experienced. Plus, they were fighting for their homeland, not for the conquest of another. The battle was quick and bloody. The two fleets collided with each other, and the battle broke up into dozens of duels between ships. After several hours, both sides were badly weakened, but Kehexou skill (and desperation) won out. Khemri retreated, salvaging what was left of its fleet. Kehexou celebrated, but it was a hard victory. Their fleet was horribly weakened, and many feared that it would not survive the next attack.

Nurmafer continues its westward exploration and expansion, and have founded a city on the coast of the great sea to the west. Due to increasing trade with Khemri and continued interest in the sciences, Nurmafer has mastered the art of working bronze.
Crystalism continues gaining popularity. Mines in the Crystal Ridge mountains have been tremendously useful. Not only has the Yathal Shanaal now mastered the working of copper, it has uncovered vast new amounts of crystals for use in religious ceremonies.
Crystalism is now practiced by small, but growing populations in the Gerber, Mogul, and Khemri nations. Neocrystalism begins to lose popularity in Qualaen Jal, and Crystalism begins to retake the nation.
The Qualaen Jal have launched several small campaigns against the barbarians to their north. Due to the fact that most of the barbarian armies were in the north fighting against the Nkondi, this was accomplished with almost no casualties.
The RowanthiOrti of Gorin has ordered exploration and expansion into the west. The further west the explorers travel, the drier and drier the lands get.
The Nkondis southward campaigns are going well. A great deal of land has been gained, and the occupied people are generally too frightened to rebel.
Growing tired of their inactive, inept government, the New Zibonese have declared allegiance to Nkondi.
The Gerber have founded the city of Rusicade on their southern border with the Mogul Empire. The Gerber people are becoming crowded, and begin to look to the bordering barbarian lands as possible future conquests.
Attempts to mix copper with other metals in the Crystal Ridge mountains have all failed. The Gerber simply cant melt any of these stronger, but brittler metals, in their current forges.
Oratheism begins to spread beyond the borders of Gerber.
Welcome to Mapsterdam! (I bet that one hasnt been used before.

Notes: Grrr. Please send orders guys. This turn, I had no orders from: Gorin (though Metaliturtle is gone for the moment, so this is NPCed), New Zibon, Nkondi, Gargari (Dis, this nation is NPCed as of this update. Please at least tell me youre quitting. Or maybe take another power, or create a new one, somewhere just into the darkness. PM me if youd like to do that.), and Mogul.
Also, do you like the fancy borders of known land, how it fades into the darkness? Would it bother you if I switched to just black, white, and blue for map colours, and not have fancy shaded boundaries?
And
please feel free to name rivers, seas, islands, mountain ranges, etc. It makes the game much more
real. Indepth. Alive.
And would you like a regular Nation Spotlight? Not military, like das, but something like what I wrote for Veritas this turn.
