Update 11- Years 912-1000: Tremors of War
Out of the countless tribes of the cold, dry northeast, two have risen to prominence.
One, the Gamorrean clan, live in the southern end of the Zammor Mountains, a range to the west of the Keran. These people have just begun to settle, and are still largely nomadic. The Gamorreans are a fierce and proud people, and masters of fighting on the back of fast and mighty beasts they call horses. The feared Gamorrean Raiders strike terror into the hearts of their enemies, charging in and flooding their enemies with arrows. Will their constant expansion bring them into conflict with Malkavia?
The Malkavians of the upper River Dava are an array of tribes brought together by several wars of unity by earlier leaders. They are currently in an amazingly long period of of peace, and relative prosperity. But the current external stability of the nation is having a negative effect on its internal stability. With a lack of outside distractions, conflicts arise between the tribes.
In Veritas, disaster has struck! The tremors that had been plaguing the island city had ceased years earlier, and had nearly been forgotten by the populace.
What happened was no tremor. It was an earthquake, with power unimagined. It was, as the survivors put it, As if the One himself had torn the island from its foundations.
The disaster came one midsummer afternoon in the year 912 Postum Assemblum. Old men sat in the plazas, playing Strategy. The military and navy massed, preparing for an operation. Children ran through the streets. Philosophers and teachers lectured in the Amphitheatres.
It struck. The first shocks were enough to shake a man from his feet. Many were. Then, buildings began to collapse. First, the poorly-built houses of the poor began to fall. Then, the pillared temples to the One rocked, and their massive roofs fell down upon those within.
The mighty arch that had guarded the harbour for centuries was topple, the waves it created wrecking countless ships. The old buildings of the asselmblum were also destroyed.
For what seemed like forever, Veritas was shaken apart. Then, it stopped. The people rose to see their shattered city. Fires broke out and scoured the poorer sections of Veritas. Great waves smashed into the northern coast.
The people fled to the remaining temples to plead to the One, to ask him Why he had done this?
Aftershocks came, but an answer didnt. The frightened, confused, and angry crowd was on the verge of rioting when the military, who had for the most part survived, restored order to the city and began to put out the fires and clear rubble, searching for survivors.
As months passed, the city began to recover, and news slowly came in from the rest of the nation. Great waves had also ravaged the Kalmerian coastline,up to Davar and beyond, fortunately causing little serious damage. To the west, Mogulia, Kehexou and Khemri had also been hit by the waves. The navies of Kehexou, Khemri and Emor had been decimated.
But it was inarguably Veritas who had suffered the most. Thousands were dead, Veritas had lost nearly all of its large buildings and its harbour was blocked by wreakage. Its mighty navy which had been staging there was scattered and many ships were lost (although less than had been feared). But small mercies were seen. The casualties could have easily been far higher, and the buildings that the military had been staging in were among those who stood through the disaster.

The question of why this had struck devout Veritas, however, still remained unanswered. But some members of the Assemblum came up with a popular answer for the people. It was because of Veritas plans of war against Khemri that this had struck Veritas, much as Eldrania had been destroyed by the One for its violence.
While this held well for many of the people of Veritas, it was not popular among the other members of the Assemblum. They still voted to send Veritas to war with Khemri, declaring that they could not abandon Nurmafer to the forces of Khemri. But it was fairly apparent to political observers that the real reason was to stop Khemris ever growing power.
The Kehexou rebellion continues, although its leadership is beginning to fragment. Tesrex Mayanas seemed to be content with his current gains, but his second in command; Maryas Gayanax, an ancestor of the great Kehexou Admiral, was not content. He dreamed of a reunited Kehexou empire, from its ancient beaches in the north to the coasts south of Kehexous southernmost islands.
In the chaos following the great earthquake, Gayanax took control of part of the Kehexou army and seized the remaining Khemri-held islands. While Mayanas is still the figurehead of the rebellion, Gayanax now has taken over most of the power. Those who have noticed this have been quite upset, fearing violence to break out once the rebellion is over.

Davaria has settled its border disputes with Veritas, and is now rapidly expanding to the north, and towards the many young nations the north holds. The Kali of Davaria has ordered the training of a new elite force for his army, the Davarian Guardsmen, attempting to imitate the deadly soldiers of distant Khemri.
The Citadel of Knowledge has gained followings in many nations, far and near. They are compiling all of the knowledge they have gathered in a Great Library in their Citadel, which will someday hold all of the knowledge in the world.
Curious about the unknown lands to their north, the Citadel sent exploration parties to chart these lands. There they came into contact with Malkavia and Gamorrea. They have been most fascinated by these primitive nations, studying what people were like at the verge of civilization. The influence of the Citadelers was probably one of the major factors contributing to the beginning of organized governments in these nations.
As the population of the Citadel grows, its people are beginning to farm out of the mountains. Many suggest that a city should be built at the confluence of the stream starting at the Citadel and the River Dava (Lunx to the Davarians) to trade goods and ideas.
With the destruction of numerous Veritasian libraries in the earthquake, the Citadel is quickly becoming the premier recorder of history in the world.
Veritas has begun colonizing the lands of former Eldrania. They have taken over the lands claimed by the Hathran. While they promised freedom of religion to these people, the Hathran refused to be ruled by yet another empire. So they moved into Tristarian highpass, and joined the other nations in this multi-ethnic country.
Veritas then discovered the Aurochs, the great beasts that the Dula-Hathran had used for war almost a millennium ago. Veritasians domesticated the creatures, but didnt plan to use them for war. They used them to farm. With the help of these beasts of burden, Veritas has revitalized its rural economy, and solved its constant food problems.

A Mausoleum greater than any other before has been made for the late Stratikrator and Autorex Strategius. The Mausoleum of the Autorex was built in a vast cavern deep beneath Kallamas. However, the section holding the body of Strategius collapsed during the earthquake. It seems that his message will not be known for a very long time, unless some truly massive excavations are undertaken.
Emor has been greatly interested by the weaponry of the Swades. While the Swades religious bonds to their weapons forbids them to give them to others, other non-Swade tribes who work Bronze have traded their knowledge to Emor. This knowledge has also been passed on to Veritas, although the Veritasians have not yet begun to use bronze to the level that Emor now is.
(Emor enters Bronze Age)
The Emorans havecontinued exploration and expansion. They, like Veritas, have been working on designs to improve their ships. If they co-operate with their allies, who knows what they might accomplish?
The Nurmaferi war continues to rage. The Khemri generals realized the futility in assaulting the extremely heavily defended heart of Nurmafer. So they decided to lay siege. First seizing the northern city of Katar, the Khemri circled around the cities of Nurmafer through the mountains. The Nurmaferis feared to send out more troops to root out these soldiers, for fear of weakening their garrison in taking out enemies in extremely defensible terrain.
Meanwhile, brutal fighting took place for the city of Mafar. The Khemri general there, apparently drunk on fine Shalamari ales, became convinced that throwing flaming pigs at the Nurmaferis would scare their Ramids. They frightened pigs didnt cause much havoc, other than burning down a few tents and causing some indigestion among the Nurmaferis who were closest to the pig when it stopped burning.
But the pigs did provide some distraction for when Khemri decided to attack. The forces of Khemri attacked in strict formation, a tactic that proved to be deadly against the two Ramids there and the disorderly group of Nurmaferi conscripts. Before being defeated, the Nurmaferis burnt their city and collapsed their mine, denying its use to Khemri. Nurmafers Prince Anarion Ororucin, son of Mennodius and leader of the forces in Westfall, has retreated to the coastal city of Gastar and collected more Ramids from the barbarians to the south. He has lost all contact with his father and the garrison in the capital. While he has been requested to burn the city and lead his people to the west, he refuses to burn his only city while he still has a choice. But the second exodus of Nurmafer to the west has begun. Anarion has discovered a mountainous island off the western coast, and forsees great uses for it as a fortress should Khemri pursue his people this far.

While Khemri fought on in the west, its east was virtually undefended. It was here that Veritas force landed. Utilizing recently developed Biremes, galleys with two levels of oarsmen and significantly greater speed, Veritas and Kehexou annihilated Khemris navy. Maryas Gayanax made a landing in former Tekrehexou, and Veritas landed at the Khemri delta at night. In a surprise attack, they stormed the capital of Khadon. The Royal Guards of Khemri fought strongly, but they werent strong enough to defeat vastly larger numbers. King Rhama Khemr III fought in his throne room, but was killed. The Royal Family was captured, and held hostage by Veritas.
Soon after, the city of Alexandria was captured with little battle. The two most important cities in Khemri and the Royal Family were under Veritasian military control.
The province of Tekrehexou is suffering from majour internal divisions. It has been very Khemrified, few speak their old language, and none practice Oundainty. While some of their people want to jump ship from the sinking Khemri Empire, they do not want to again be ruled by the Islanders again.

The Swade Ascendancy has begun a campaign against the myriad other tribes along the Blade River. While their expansion is going well and their enemies are disorganized at the moment, great danger has a tendency to bring rival tribes together into one organized nation.

Despite a growing religious gap, the Shalamari/Gorin relationship hasnt seriously deteriorated. The Crystalists of Shalamari have determined that Masra is a valid religion.
Attempts to convert Gerberia to Crystalism have resulted in an angry Gerber backlash. They do not want to be converted and are content with their current beliefs and worldview. They also know what happens to those who convert to Crystalism- annexation. So the Gerbers have closed their borders to the Shalamari.
Also, the Nkondi discovered that the Shalamari were attempting to convince barbarians to attack them. The Shalamari apparently misjudged the relationship between the Nkondi and the barbarians. While the barbarians are strongly independent, they will not betray their blood brothers- or in the Nkondis case, sisters.
Angered by Shalamaris aggressive actions, the Gerbers and Nkondi have signed a defensive alliance should Shalamari attempt to expand their borders into their lands again. Both nations are preparing for war. And it seems that the Shalamari are as well. They have commissioned a new special unit for their army, the Phalanx.
The Gorin are emphasizing their border cities, attempting to turn them into trading centers. However, the northern city of Dasht is far away from anyone who wishes to trade, save a few barbarians who would rather plunder, so this has failed.
The Gorin have also commissioned a new corps for their army. The Bajo, or calm wind in the Gorin language are mighty men wielding two axes. They are as deadly in an offensive situation as the Phalanxes are on the defensive.
Many believed that the Aneyans were totally destroyed, save a few remenants. Well, they were right. But what did surprise them was that the Aneyans would try building a nation again.
Maui Menai, one of the few Aneyans who believed that Tigot had to be abandoned, had led out his followers down the Kalmar River shortly before the city fell. For decades, he and his followers wandered the world, until their travels brough them to the lands of the high Wardash, to the north of Gorin. They have received aid from surrounding barbarians. Some of these low peoples were terrified of the tall and pale Aneyans, while some worshipped them as gods. It was naturally in the lands of the latter that the Aneyans chose to settle and found their new nation, Maugot. They now begin to build a new great city on the banks of a great river.

Notes: I wonder who those pro-peace guys in the Assemblum.
All nations who had not yet entered the copper age are now into it.
@jalapeno_dude- As your people have a somewhat more detached view of religion to make way for their enlightened ways, your city will remain a cultural center.
Everyone knows the river that Davar is built around is called the River Dava due to an early Veritasian mistranslation, except for the Davarians, who call it Lunx.
Feel free to celebrate the millennium, followers of Veritas' calendar.
All Cultural Centers give +1 Culture this turn.
