im wondering what exacly is the % chance of a first strike working. to be honnest i never see it realy happen.
and when it dose, its not all that often..
witch makes units like the samuria and navy seal nearly useles:(

i must say, promoting the seals with gurrila 1 and 2 or woodsman 1 and 2 make them a very good specal forces. thay run around takeing out key instalations along the hill sides and forsets, and healing while on the move!!!

so i DO like navy seals for the march promo, but the first strikes chance maby needs to get boosted a bit!

Your % of winning the first strike is based on the relative strengths of both units. If your unit has a higher strength, then it will win the first strike round(s) the majority of the time. Likewise, if it has a lower strength, then it will loose the first strike round(s) the majority of the time. More first strikes essentially give you a better chance of getting the first strike in. Also, the log doesn't record a failed first strike round, so there is no real way of knowing whether it was a first strike round or not. Pre 1.52 did show the first strike rounds that were lost and the hit points not being reduced, but that was changed there after.

it needs to be showed, so units u can tell a lil bit more easly if ur units win or lose it.

Yes Watiggi, that's a good explanation of what a full "First Strike" is, but what are the chances of a "First Strike Chance" actually being converted into an attempt at a "First Strike"?

I've noticed that First Strikes appear to make little difference, more so offensively. I'm currently playing as Japan and although the Samarai looks good, it's a pretty useless UU. I've lost to 80-90% odds of winning a battle and even with 2 first strike chances against a unit of the same strength it still loses. I guess that's the point of it being called 'chance', it seems to rarely convert them into 'strikes'. First strikes are shown in the odds % but I think it shouldn't be shown at all.

Got to disagree there.. me fellow Lancastrian!

Just blown the rest of the world away with our friend Toku .. and the clincher was the Samurai ... looks like you got shafted by the RNG

Essentially a random number between x-y (inclusive) occurs before battle. The resulting number is how many First Strikes the unit will have for that battle. Example: Unit has 4-7 First Strikes. Before combat a random number between 4-7 (inclusive) is thrown. Say a 6 is thrown. The unit will enter the battle with 6 First Strike rounds. The next battle it may get a 4, in which case it goes into battle with 4 First Strikes, etc.
