"That's right you primitive apes, this...is my BOOM STICK!"

Aaanyway, I put this into the second post as well, hopefully it clarifies the difference between senators and generals.

I'm trying not to suffocate the game with too many rules. The idea here is to have fun, not get bogged down. But here are my ideas:

Senators are the leaders of the Republic. They may put forward motions and ideas that will drive Rome forward. They decide who to wage war on, whether we should focus on military or economy. They vote on the motions, and what the decide is law. If they wish they may govern a specific region or city.

Generals have actual avatars on the map. They will lead the campaigns. I will try my utmost to represent a Generals wishes on the battlefield. They may be 'killed' in game, but there is always an heir

My job is to translate what is discussed on this thread into actual in-game terms and report it.

how many provences is the rest of southern italy divided into? (i've never played rtw i play mtw alot though)

It's purely for ease of translation. I toyed with using a differnt calender system, but settled on this for ease of story telling. I was going to make a reference to it in an update though ;)

it says bc on map it was nothing you said. also have you considered the Pricescampey/ shrimp scampey problem

It's hardly a problem if he hasn't complained. I'm using 'us' and 'ey' as suffixes for the fun of it. Besides, it's scampi :p

So what's next for Rome then, senators? Consolidate our position and strengthen our base in central Italy? Or, as I'm predicting you'll want, a further push south? We do have over 1000 troops in Confinium now, and I'm sure Till won't mind the extra challenge.

What military units are being built? the Roman Legion can't be feared if there are only 2 men and a dog :)

steviejay Just general front-line troops. These are mostly going to the north for Captain's troops though. Capua is being developed as a military city though.

Intelligence for the nearest barbarian city. Our army in Confinium is at the bottom of the screen.

yay strike there hopefully our spy will open the gate so we can skip the bloodshed and get staight to the pillaging.

This looks interesting. Could I enter as a General (if you have a spare) or otherwise a Senator? :)

Truronian: Of course you can. General it is :)
Till If the last battle dissapointed you, I doubt this one will excite. Four divisions in Paestium? That was the size of the minor reinforcements we had to deal with behind our lines in the last battle!

shouldn't we get some cavalry for that army?

:( We don't have any beautiful horsies...

Bah, Horses are expensive and besides sending our ruling class against these Barbarians would be beneath them, let the legions handle it

We should be fine for now - the Generals get horses of their own :)

Heart of the Republic - A Rome: Total War AAR

Part Two

After several years of fighting in the south, Kan decided he best return to Rome itself. The Senate had been allowed to run affairs without him for too long. He did not go alone, as he travelled with the young general PanzerKavalierus. And while Clericus was to remain behind to oversee the Corfinium garrison, Tillus was to lead a small force to besiege Paestum.

Meanwhile, a diplomat was sent out to greet the Greek City to the far south of the Italian peninsula. He hoped to seek trade rights and possibly map information, he returned with the rather shocking news that Rome and Greece were actually at war, and had been for some time! Apparently this had gotten lost among all the paperwork Consular Kan had to go through.

Regardless, at the moment the Greek Cities had made no threatening moves to the Republic, and as such there was no need to take action. However to the north, a far more tempting target was suddenly spotted.

During a routine patrol by General Captain’s forces, it was discovered that Arretium was in fact very weakly defended. While no specific numbers were given, his own army - about to be reinforced with two Hastati divisions - could easily besiege and take the city. The only unknown was whether the barbarian city to the east would send reinforcements to save Arretium.

It was a tempting target, though Consular Kan was unwilling to see the Republic overstretched beyond it’s traditional borders. Nevertheless, he knew that bringing such people under Roman control would be safer in the long run, and as such reluctantly put forward the motion to the senate on whether or not a northern campaign should be launched…

in response to the southern front and the greek declaration no campain just one battle to take arretium.

so basically yes but only to take city nothing beyond that

also possibly scout the other city before attacking if you can
