The Ban smileys from signature thread made me think of this.

Can it be possible to add a User Profile signature?

Same thing as a signature but only viewable in the user profile, allowing 20 lines or so of text.

This would allow people to put their smiley art or a short story of themself or awards they received in threads or quotes they want to keep.

When changing signatures I often want to keep some of the stuff I take out somewhere for people to see while adding new advertisement/links/quotes in my sig.

That way animated smileys could be banned from signatures, same as the spoiler tag, but users would be allowed to use them in the Profile signature.

Opinions ?

Sounds like a good idea to me as long as we ban animated smileys from signatures.

;)

A page of text in my profile would most certainly be useful! I could put down interesting links. Maybe we could have it be the size of a singe post.

Would be very useful- i often have more info than i can fit into a sig.

So looks all good.. lets see what Thunder thinks?

How about a perk for adding things to the data base.. perhaps something small like 10 items.. theres thousands and thousands out there!

Note: Emphasis mine.

In other words, almost nobody would ever see it, thus defeating the purpose of the signature.

I have a hard time believing one can't prioritize and just put a few links or quotes in the space already alotted for signatures. If someone needs a lot of space, they can start up a blog.

I like the idea. But we already have the profile picture for images, MjM.

Do it please!

The appearance of forum profiles likely would change significantly in the next year or two... or even sooner. Forum software makers feel they need to improve the profiles page in order to compete with those profile pages on social networking sites like MySpace.

We may as well wait for that. :)

PS: Here is an example from IPB: http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showuser=61416
vBulletin is probably working on something like that too.

In the meantime we could have a thread say in Site Feedback (or somewhere else) where we could each have post to write these sorts of things.

possibly wrong- but you could always find an old old post of yours, and edit whatever you like within there, and provide a link to it in your signature.

Ive got various info "hidden" in old posts all over the forum!

Well, that's creative, I'll give you that.

Is there not a limit to how much time is allowed to edit a post?

Yeah, but then some dumb guy would respond or some mod would put in a warning or something crappy would happen. This would be a nice centralized system.

oh yeah, i wouldn't link to my secret cashs, simly pull data from them when its needed... for example the code for my old long signature is out there somewhere...:mischief:
