True Multitreaded semi succession game, Immortal or deity.

OK I played the turns, and overall did not go well at all. I think I am going to have to pick up someone elses save for next round :P.

Spoiler :
Missed Great lighthouse by 4 turns in 1040 BC(Which was very stupid because I had put exactly 5 turns of research into horseback riding, I should have thought of it in my turnset), Alex declares war in 650 while I was just starting to build some horse archers. I lost barcelona and see alex's army of 6 units coming at me :p. I could continue here but this was some bad luck with Alex coming after me instead of his worst enemy Washington. I am going to replay from 4000 BC out of personal interest with a more focused start to GL and then horseback riding to see how it goes.

Save:

ok, That make it round 2 closed.
We finished with 6 saves, down from 7. if thinks continue to go this way we will be out of players in no time.

Next round open, I would try to make it finish time a Friday again. I hope we will make it this time.

Round 3.
30 Turns.
Expected end time 125AD

I played my turns on weekend, will post when I get home (At work at the moment).

Please, try to make summary of most notisable events on your turns and technological situation, if not order of research, make my work easier, pretty please?

So, My turns:
Spoiler :

I look on position and begin to count. How many shields I can produce fast?
4 forests
67*4 = 268
+ overflow with 2 whipes
May be more + natural shields.
Actially I have more shields avalible then just cost of GL.
So, why not build National epic strigth after GL and double GL GP points?

I would need more happiness for that, so, I need monarchy.
I had research set on currency with 0 beakers invested.
So, change research to monarchy.
Follow plan, chopping forest into GL and whipe barrack and 2 Missionaries
trowing overflow first to GL and then to National epic.

I went cheking trade each turn, asking Alex to trade me monarchy for
Monoteism/literature.

He did not want to, untill on turn 3 Monarchy become cheap enogth and he agreed.
So, traded Monoteism+Literature for Monarchy with Alex.
So, what to research? I need to prerequisite for philosofy for unsing expected GS. That mean Col or Dramma.
Problem is, with NE I add chance of GA insted of GS.
Dramma has a trade value by itself, as no one has it, when col is allredy known.

So, Monarchy-Dramma.

Build GL and national. Got GS (add some scientists) the same turn I got Dramma Use it for Philosofy and we even got Taoism.

I revolted ito pacifism for a time to speed up second GS.

Spread buddism with Missionaries and build a settler to settle cooper city.
Settle it and spread buddism to it the same turn with missionary.
Our thurd city after finishing granary was producing workboats for cooper city, so It could start working fishes the moment border expand.
Research set to Col.
Col makes CS cheaper and I expected to trade currency to makeit self research even cheaper and no one was wanting to trade col.

I wait a bit to get Feodalism for philosofy and got Currency only 3 turns befor col finished.

Eventially I traded for a lot of tech.
Feodalism, Currency, Construction, HR, Mettalocasting, Callendar.
Turns were going slow, as I think each turn what to do what to trade with whom and try to maximy my heal and happiness trades.

Us result of me sending missionaries to Alex he now was happy to convert to buddism and I think I used dRamma to conver him to buddism and Col to ask him to stop trade with Gandy. That earn us more resources traded with Gandy and Alex and damage there relationships.

He become friendly with me for a time been and Does not like Washington and Gandy mach now. I hope he declare on some of them.

My second Great person was GA, so I press music button. I was not first to Music, but that ok, more trade material.
Revolted back to OR to whipe some buildings and currently 2 turns to CS.
Build one more cities, to claim wales.

So, that what we know about the world:

And our land:

tech situation

MD3_Tech0000.JPG

As you can see GL keep as in tech race.
So, I am thinking about going after Liberalism.

Military wize I did not build a single military unit, relying on Alex goodness, religion, trades and the fact that no one want and can bribe Alex agains us.

We can build Longbows and axes and HA if we want to.

Ohh, One thin I am not sure about.
MOunty declared on Vicy and asked us to join and I sad no, which migth be a mistake. I probably should had this one more phoney war and keep him happy.
This turns really took me a long time to play, a lots of hurd decisions.

Played up to 125AD

I read Mutineer's spoiler after this one and he is in a much better position than me. I had not met Vicky or Gandhi, which hurt my game (couldn't explore since my borders to Alex were closed). I'll definitely go with his save, although I also have 5 cities.

Summary:
I had lost the Great Library early in my turn even before I had finished literature. I went for drama afterwards for trading purposes.
Alex is on "WFYABTA" attitude despite me not trading him any more techs since my last turn.
Eventually these trades happened:
Meditation + Poly + Drama for Construction + 50
Lit + Drama for CoL + 90
Lit for 200
Deer for Dye
CoL + Drama for Currency + Monotheism + 20
Priesthood + Lit + CoL for Metal Casting

My tech situation is not as good as Mutineer's but IMO my game is still winnable since I have catapults which will probably allow me to fight Alex for his land and extort techs. But I prefer to be in better position.

Since 125BC I've been building an army non-stop. Although granted, 10 turns didn't produce much of an army.
5 turns to Civil Service.

Sorry I forgot to play last 10 turns last night, I post to bump so I'll remember later.
EDIT: Added 10 turns to my game. Still isn't as good as I'd hoped.

I just had two replays of 4000BC to 625BC for learning purposes. Looking at people's saves I thought that going for Buddhism was good (can always go no religion if diplomacy gets tough) for happiness and huge early culture to grab marble. My fog busting was much better this time.

The big difference between the two replays was what Alex did. The first time he declared war on me about 3000BC, attacking with one of his exploring archers. There was silence for a while before he attacked Madrid with 3 archers. I founded a copper city in the tundra before the next wave of Greek troops (axes, swords, archers). But by the time could I connected copper to Madrid, I was facing a fourth wave of troops, some even arriving on the scene via galleys. I lost the capital and the Greek still wouldn't give me peace. Now I see what uberfish means by getting wiped out by random AI declarations.

In the second replay Alex went after Ghandi, so I could develop peacefully.

I'll play Round 3 on Friday.

EDIT: fixed up expression

Some where there Alex declare on Washington (I had a little selebration)

Washington asked to declare on alex and I refuse.
Alex asked to declare oin washington and I want to keep Alex happy, so I agreed.

Open borders Alex/Gandy

Made peace with Washington by giving him Meditation
Alex made peace last turn.
So, now he is potential problem.

That from my second report, Alex went after Washington, letting me to live.

On Deity early on you might be whiped out, simply because you can not overcome AI bonuses + the fact it start with 2 settlers, bunch of workers and 4 archers I think.

That why I allways wellcome betetr AI. Better AI would make this huge bonuses unnessesary and will create more ballanced game on higher dificulty level.

That why I allways wellcome betetr AI. Better AI would make this huge bonuses unnessesary and will create more ballanced game on higher dificulty level.

It would be more balanced if, rather than starting off with two free settlers, the AI was given one free settler at say 2500BC and another one at 1500BC. Similarly for the free workers. This wouldn't be hard to program.

OK have played and I am pleased with progress so far despite having to rush to play it this evening

Spoiler :
Well met Montezuma the last of the AI and in an unequal trade picked up Mathematics for Meditation Polytheism and Alphabet. This was OK as everybody else had Alphabet and I needed Mathematics to chop in Great Library if necessary.

Plan was research drama, and pick up some techs for it so that my 1st Great Scientist could Lightbulb Philosphy to found Taoism and get trade value out of the tech.

In the mean time capital would build Great Library taking the Health hit of chopping forest if necessary..

Managed to pick up 2 happiness trades (Gems and Wine) for Fur with Alexander and Mao respectively to keep my few cities growing.

Once I didn't fear losing Great Library also did some trading of literature but now it is getting hard to find trade partners but picked up calendar from Monty again for Literature + old techs as he was backward.

Now my screenshots stopped workin once I had lightbulbed Philosophy but I got good trade value from it as can be seen from current tech position

tech2.jpg

tech1.jpg

I am now beelining for Nationalism.

Most importantly we got the Great Library ...

We have settled the city near the cow like everybody else and are building a settler for between capital and Northern city to work the gold mine, some floodplain cottages and hopefully put pressure on ALexanders inconveniently placed city. Diplomatically we are Ok and I may survive to lose a space race if I am lucky. Greater minds may differ...

Will be travelling in US next week so next turset wont be posted till Friday at earliest

Ill be playing this tonight most likely by the way.

I am moving my mother-in-law, but will try to play tonight. If I have not posted by tonight I am in moving my mother-in-law hell and will probably not be able to play until Monday, so feel free to skip me.

Spoiler :
Ok that's two people with the great lib and better tech tree than me, making it difficult to pick a game...

I'm very surprised most of us not been attacked after all this time with minimal army....

I decided to go with someone else's save. That way I could compare results at the end and hope to learn something. I chose mutineer's save because it looked like he had a good chance of getting the GL. If Alex declared war on one of us perhaps the other person would get it. (I also liked Ralph_Jackson's save :) )

Spoiler :

Chopped the GL in Madrid 450BC. After GL Madrid finished barracks and built a mixture of military units and missionaries. Building missionaries payed off when Alex converted to Buddhism. Also building another temple to increase happy cap and run another prophet.

Barcellona built its barracks and then focussed on archers to grow to size 7 (1 unhappy). I then switched to a settler and whipped it out next turn. I did this twice in this city to found two more cities in the tundra.

Seville built baracks, a lighthouse and then built military the entire time. I have lots of archers atm for a couple of reasons: (1) copper only got hooked up 1/2 way through and (2) archers sitting on the hill of Barcellona is good protection for the empire. If Alex invaded my plan would be to build two galleys (probably by whip) to prevent a sea invasion.

Tech: research currency (no trades) but got the discount for CoL (traded for monarchy and calandar). I then lightbulbed Philosophy with a GS, Seville is the holy city. Trades went a bit slowly but I got HBR, MC (partially researched), Theology and some cash. I was hoping to get construction from Alex (fearing his army - some barrage cats would be good) but got the WFYABTA from him. I researched construction the hard way. 3 turns before completion Alex was willing to trade it for Philosophy, but I thought I'd keep it for a later trade. As soon as I finished construction he then asked for Philosophy. I thought hard about this and then decided to give it to him. At least he is now friendly to me. I started CS to get the discount off paper, hoping to lightbulb Education later.

I have a GS in Madrid waiting to be used.

Monte demanded furs and I gave in. I have since cancelled the deal. I am hooking up more furs for trade.

I revolted to HR and Pacificism after learning Philosophy. After doing a little whipping and trading for feudalism I revolted to caste system and vassalage. Vassalage saved a lot of gold (running simultaneously with pacifism) and I am using caste system artists for border expansions in two cities that are not producing culture. When borders expand I plan to revolt to slavery again.

Here is the empire:

AD125.JPG

Techs: currency, CoL, Monarchy, Calendar, Philosophy, HBR, MC, Theology, Construction, started CS.

Some more thoughts:
Spoiler :
I should have built one chariot after adopting vassalage to do some exploring (give it sentry promo). I put off building NatEpic in madrid because I don't want GAs yet. I also should have put one of the chariots in Madrid to increase its happy cap. I prefered to fortify archers in Barcellona for the 25% defence bonus in case Alex attacked.

Godel, It is interesting to look on differences and simularities of our saves.
Spoiler :

You should pay more attention to resource trades.
You can get Wheet from Mao and Sugar from Alex.
Capital is at health limit and at happiness limit.

Curious that in my save barbarian city gone to Gandy, not to alex.

Hi Mutineer,
Spoiler :

I looked at your save. You have a lot more infrastructure in the capital and Barcellona than me. You obviously like to use the whip a lot. I see that if you whip again in both cities you will have unhapiness for 40 turns. Obviously you cannot do this indefinitely. What is your plan? Do you whip lots of infractructure, grow until you have reached the happy cap and then run specialists while the anger wears off? Or do you intend to use the culture slider and continue whipping. Is that why you are building a colessium and already have a theatre?

Can you explain your reasoning for settling on the pigs. Getting 3fpt from the city square is great and you get the extra fish that I will never be able to work. I chose to put two cities there instead thinking that sharing the food between two cities would be better (happy cap etc). I guess you will just whip all the infrastructure you need to run specialists and then generate lots of gpps from this one city.

Doesn't the 6 swords, 4 phalanxes, 1 cat and 3+ axes in Conrith scare you a little? You only have one warrior in each city! How are you confident that Alex will not attack? Do you reason that he will not attack you unless he is bribed because he is friendly with you (I know that Alex is easy to bribe)? Or is this the kind of luck you need to get a good start on Deity? I built a stack of archers for Barcellona in hope to hold a Greek attack away from Madrid should one occur. This was a drain on the economy (running pacifism) and also diverted production from infrastructure.

I am impressed with your tech trading and decisions. I went for currency first (against intuition) because you had selected it when I picked up your save. Obviously this was just a convenient default until you played the next turn (0 beakers invested). I find the AI likes to go for Currency earlier. Going for drama was a superior decision.

I am very interested in following what you do when preparing for war. I followed your "no cottages" SGs and read about how you whipped an army from nowhere. I am very keen to learn from you this game. Thanks.

Godel

PS Thanks for the feedback above RE resource trading
