Should we use a random map or a hand-made map? I'd prefer a handmade map to give everyone an equal chance. I know that balanced gives everyone all strategic resources within a 15 tile radius, but 15 tiles is still a long way in some cases. I'd say that it's better to be safe than sorry and use a map maker.

And the version? Vanilla will allow most participation, but we if we're going to set up multiple first rounds like Donsig suggested, we could have one or two (or three, I don't know how many people want to play in Warlords) for Warlords players, and the others for Vanilla players. The finals would have to be Vanilla in that case.

Other settings that need discussion?

Sorry, but I did not understand. Two games, one Vanilla and the other Warlords?

Or both with same map? And doesn't the handmade map puts one person out?

Other points, that I remember: map type, level, barbs, leaders.

Best regards,

Yes, if we have someone make a map then that person couldn't play.

Can we use the same map on both Warlords and Vanilla? :hmm:

I think we should just stick with Vanilla unless everyone that plays has Warlords and wants to go that route. It would simplify things.

My vision for the first round is to have identical games, not only the same map but the same leaders. For example Bismark, Napoleon, Victoria and Catherine in every game. I think it would be fun to compare the games afterwards. An alternative with a DG spin would be to have everyone play the Mongols (if that's even possible).

In addition to those things pointed out above, we'd have to decide how many players in each game, which leaders, use AI or not (might be interesting to have the Mongols as AI but a purely human game would prolly be better).

Handmade map puts one person out, but we could try to get a mapmaker from outside the DG, perhaps someone from the GotM staff? Or we could ask in the multiplayer forum.

My opinion on other issues
4 Players, "small" standard map or "big" small map, no AI, level monarch (so you won't have almost unlimited happiness and health, but it won't be a problem right away), no barbs, same leaders sounds good to me, but everyone mongolian could be done as well. It's certainly possible, and it would make the game very fair.

Looks good. So, 4 or 4xn players?

I'll be in, Vanilla or Warlords, if room to (I do not want to "put" anyone out).

Best regards,

I don't see any need to set a limit, keep 'em coming and start off a new game when we get 4. If more than 4 games get started, we can go with semi-finals.

I'd suggest quick speed.

Playing vanilla will make it more difficult for me, but I'll go with the flow.

There is a mapmaking forum on CDZ. I don't remember who the usual mapmakers are, but they're pretty open to requests.

All the games on the same map is easy to do, and doesn't even require a custom map, just a worldbuilder save file. There may even be a "last created game" worldbuilder save, in which case we wouldn't actually need a mapmaker at all.

Should we get a mapmaker then?

Proposed Settings: Quick speed, normal map size, everybody Genghis, Vanilla, Monarch?

Everybody Genghis - I love it! Who will bew top Mongol?

Yes, I'd say let's get a map maker. We currently have nine signed up. By the time we get a map maybe we'll have 12. Let's put 4 on a map.

I can play either Warlords or Vanilla. Has anyone who already signed up NOT want Warlords?

I don't have Warlords, so I don't want warlords.

contact Matrix.. didnt he do maps?

All other settings... doesnt matter to me. I can pick a civ or be assigned one.(or random)

Is it just me, or is CDZ not very active :p

sorta active....lots of spamming. :)

No respons yet, should we find a mapmaker somewhere else?
I could possibly lend a hand, depending on what it is you want done. As long as you don't expect Gyathaar quality maps, that is. :) I can generate a map and move stuff around in world-builder if that is what you are looking for ...

Alrighty, how about some guidelines on what you are looking for ...

Any particular map script to use as a base? Or should I just choose? Earlier you said you wanted a standard size map ... that may be a bit roomy for only 4 civs (depending on the script/options). Everyone OK with that?

And what kind of balancing are you looking for? Make sure everybody has all resources? That will pretty much kill off resource trading. Or just make sure everybody has all strategic resources?
