G-Minor 23

1595 AD win.

Went relatively smoothly, but production was a bottleneck. And I didn't plan the final parts well enough, so that cost me a bit. The map (Great Plains, Lizzy) was pretty good though, especially the starting position. No luck with the huts though, I would have liked an early settler.

1705 with Elizabeth vs. Peter on pangaea. The early game felt shaky despite the consecutive settler and worker pops from huts. Five cities, ran bureaucracy, organized religion, free market, representation for most of the game. Went more for cash than GP, though I got a few from coastal cities.

The end game felt a lot smoother. Space Elevator didn't come into play until all casing and thrusters were complete, but contributed nicely to the push for the rest. Research and production synced up nicely, the only thing I'd have done differently was the docking bay in York and the Life Support in Hastings, instead of vice versa. Hastings had lower production on a higher cost item, switching them likely would've bought me a turn or two.

I did OCC for fun and got 1695. My tech pace was great, but I spent FOREVER trying to build all the parts (I only had two mined hills). No aluminum anywhere on the map (Great Plains). Next time I think I will try a Pangaea or Inland Sea non-OCC.

Those who played OCC can you show a pic of city?

Obviously, I previously had cottages where all the workshops and watermills are. G-min 23 city screen.JPG

EDIT: Just thought of this. Has there ever been an OCC gauntlet? Just wondering.

I got my second try, and got 1535 AD launch

Here's my two attempts...I think I had a great city both times, I just obviously am not as good at streamlining my tech process as I should be.

I had a great city in my non-occ attempt, it had like 10 floodplains or something (I'll try to get a pic). Obviously, it had "some" health problems :p

Fishing (Starting tech)
Mining (Starting tech)
Agriculture
Wheel
Pottery (Granaries!)

Metal Casting (forges)
Machinery
Paper
Printing Press
Education

Only early wonder you should build (you will have production problems) is the oracle.

Also prioritize Assembly Line (start factory in Apollo city), Industrialism (Aluminium) and then Rocketry.

I've been building Pyramids as well to get to either representation or universal suffrage, depending on how many specialists vs towns I'm running. I'm wondering though if I am getting that much benefit from it. I'm not rushing to build, so I'm probably not gaining a ton of turns vs. waiting for the tech.

On the other hand, I'm also building them for the GE points. I'll sometimes throw out the Great Wall in mid-game simply for the GE points, too.

I already did this, i mean to say play a gauntlet, then be catched in RL or other games.
But this time i think i'll do, otherwise you can think i'm dead.

Easy to win, but i've seen some date not so easy to beat... aim: top ten, or death.

Shaved 110 years of my already pretty decent date.
It's now 1485 AD :)
Things went a little bit better this time, especially planning.
I had three golden ages, and buile the Oracle, the Great Library, National Epic, Oxford, Iron Works (in a secondary city).

Great job HOF-staff, you've got me hooked on this again :p

And some pictures from my first game:
Capital:

Flood plains galore!

Space Elevator:

I don't see how that 50% boost isn't valuable.

If most your parts are finished a couple turns sooner that won't affect your launch date. If you can chop out the last part 1 turn after finishing research, then finishing tech is the only "long pole". You could use those 2 GEs to finish tech 2 turns sooner.

I'm surprised. Details please. If not now, then after it ends.

My leader was Peter. Philo+Expansive+Research Institute are crazy combo. In my game was 5 city. Main idea is many GP and quick Computers for Research Institute.

I don't even know what a research institute is. Expansive seems completely useless on this difficulty level, so the institutes must be nice.

I think the research institute gives you 2 scientists (or are they free?)

Research Institute replaces the Lab - so it comes late, but it gives you 2 free scientists (i.e. the same as a great library in all you cities...)

 Wow. Two? Seems like one would be strong enough. I always forget I'm playing a different game than most of you. I guess I'll go for the best Vanilla date then. I'm still thinking sub 1200 will be unlikely for us purists.
