Kan, can I turn my men against this tyrant of a counciler and march on his palace?

Tip to Raisin Bran- don't try to get the generals on your side and provoke a civil war when the generals are offered the opportunity attack a foreign power.

Heart of the Republic - A Rome: Total War AAR

Part Thirty-Five
The House of StevieJey; Epilogue
211 BC

Four months had passed since Raisinus’ plot had failed, and Rome was at the dawn of a new era. The Senate had been reformed, there was relative peace across the Republic, and the dissent following StevieJey’s announcement to invade Carthage had gone. The latter may have been eased with the funding of several months of games and races across the provinces.

Given the fallout and scandal that had come about from the Carthaginian plan, it was no surprise that most discussions on the subject had been dropped. Rome continued to face threats from her frontiers - the Gauls needed to be taken care of, and the Macedonians were calling for aid in the continuing Greek Civil War. PrinceScampey - loyal defender of the House of StevieJey - had been assassinated just a month before, presumably by order of the Sarmatians. There would be repercussions.

The Senate met once again in full in the summer of 211BC, and once more it was filled with both Senators and Generals. The reformation of the government meant that the Generals would be allowed to have a voice in Government as well, though with less power than the Senators. This only applied to the commanders who could make it of course, there were several spaces in the Senate that were quite empty.

For Consular Yurey, all was well with Rome.

The Elite Guards outside the Senate Building

His plans had gone remarkably well, considering it depended on the foolishness of others. The overt hostility of Raisinus had meant it was all to easy to make StevieJey believe his life was in danger, and granted Yurey enough power to be an influence to the Consular. The Iberian war, the “threat” of Carthage - both came about because of his own intelligence reports. It had allowed an easy overview of who the many Senators and Generals gave allegiance to.

Raisinus Branius ‘plot’ to overthrow StevieJey was doomed from the start. His own ambitions for power were well known, and he was far too open with his fellow conspirators. It had been far too easy to buy off Subius and gain knowledge of when the Senator would have attempted to strike. Far too easy to have his Guards wait for them to arrive, and destroy one of the major political groups of Rome.

The other such group - the House of StevieJey - was even easier. A quite simple affair, after the Guards had left, to deepen the wound Raisinus had given to the Consular, then claim he had succumb to his wounds shortly after the attack. There would be no suspicion from the Guards - they were loyal to him, after all. The Senator’s and Generals would doubtlessly be shocked, but more that one of their own had attempted to strike down the leader of Rome! Fearing civil war, they would quite easily respect the apparently genuine will of StevieJey - for Yurey to take power, and have his Guards protect the cities of the Republic.

His abilities couldn’t be questioned - Iberia had been conquered and political strife in the Senate ended under his watch. It was the General’s touch, of course, having the ability to deal with crisis and the masses in a way Senator’s couldn’t understand. In the coming years the Senate would be refilled with the successors to the former leaders, but for now it was running almost exclusively under the watch of Yurey and his Generals. Not PrinceScampey II, of course. A brilliant General, but one in the wrong place at the wrong time, and one that had been in favour of the House of StevieJey. His death had cut the last link to that noble family, and given the Senate all the desire they would need to bring the fight to Sarmatia once more.

It was a new age for Rome…

so I take it the army now controls Rome?

because if so, thats great.... those senators were driving me nuts, and as a millitary man myself I see no problem :p

I'm going to haunt all you a$$es!

*wooooooooohoooooooooohooooooooohooooooo*

To clarify, the Generals get a vote in what to do, though Senators get the louder voice in the Senate, and are the only ones that can be voted to Consularship (Yuri is an exception, but he's away for the summer anyway). This is just to counter the fact our Senator posters are largely inactive.

Is PrinceScampey III ready to follow in his grandfather's footsteps yet?

I'll be reintroducing everybody soon enough :D

I'll switch to a senator if you need activity

it only makes sense that somewhere down the lines, one person from the house of captainus would go agianst the family tradition

might as well.... I'd like to try the other side of this empire

It's not an Empire, it's a Republic. With a Leader-for-Life :mischief:

New map at 211BC, as you can see Rome now controls most of the western Mediterranean. There has been no Gallic attacks (except on our fleets) and the Sarmatians continue to trouble our northern borders. We are friendly with Germany.

Carthage we are technically at war with, but there hasn't been a battle on land since we left Carthago. The Greek Cities and Macedon continue to fight each other, and only the Gods know about the cultures beyond our reach, though I believe this map is fairly accurate for all other nations as well.

the Sarmatians are our largest threat for now.... they've killed a few of our generals and we cant allow them to continue

push them off the map.... or just away from our borders

1) Eliminate the remaining Gauls in France

2) Attack the Sarmatians, take the first 2 territories for ourselves, and the 3rd one we can give to Germany as a buffer.

3) Destroy the Carthaginians.

4) Who is that blue mass to our east?

Technically speaking, they only killed Captainus. PrinceScampey was assassinated by Yurey. :mischief:

PrinceScamp: I assume you mean the blue mass on the other side of the Adriatic. That's Illyria, who have been friendly for us since the start. The Greek Cities are attacking them these days :(
