Request for a Civ4: BtS "Intermediate" Succession Game

Hey guys, are we still here?

I've been waiting for votes from Zetetic (if you are still playing), chopstyx and frob2900. But lets start on frob's game, since it does have 3 votes so far. All who haven't voted, do try and write something similar to the above 'game reviews', just to help everyone out, and to develop your critical thinking! ;)

So, frob's game for Round 3, and in by Monday 27th, OK? Play 30 turns this time. See you then!

Still here, no problem.

I will play mine this evening if I get near my pc ;)

I'll happily compile stats if people provide me with screenshots (or just data) of:
Demographics
Statistics (ordered by 'Current' units so that all currents units are shown)
Event Log, shown from start of round until end
Home Advisor (for city pop.)
Current tech with beakers/max. beakers.

Thanks for volunteering your continued support Zetetic, however, would you rather just leave all your responsibilities since you are leaving the game? You've done an excellent job :goodjob: but if you are leaving the SG, then drop all your responsibilities and focus on your other things, like Bioshock, and School. It would probebly be easier anyway, if we just took the data straight from the games instead of taking loads of screenshots.

So thanks for your help, it's been good having you on this SG. Look out for the sequel, and keep lurking if you want!

(this is the 3rd goodbye I've made from this SG )

Well, thanks for getting your game in, Putchuco! I'll get mine in later today. I'm still wondering if frob2900 and chopstyx are with us, I'll PM them soon. Assuming they are, we have: Jamesds, frob2900, chopstyx, Putchuco, pawelo on this SG.

Hey, Putchuco - you forgot your save!!

OK, here's my game report up to 125 BC (Turn 110)

Spoiler :

For techs, I first discovered Mathematics, then beelined to Monarchy (which req'd Meditation + Priesthood). I have started on Code of Laws for Courthouses, but I haven't spent any time on it yet, so now is a good time to change, quite possibly to Currency.

After discovering Monarchy, I changed to Hereditary Rule (+1 :) per Military Unit stationed in a city), and stuck some of the axemen I have produced (but not promoted yet) into the cities for more happiness and productivity.

My workers continued improving land, and chopping near Babylon. I got the mine near ClamFish going, with a road to the city. I also have a road nearly finished to my new city ("SheepCity"), and the two workers will promptly begin improving it. It is building a Monument, finishing in (at most) 10 turns.

Some of my cities produced Axemen when they had nothing else to do. So far I have 5, which can be used for the beaching party if we decide upon that course of action.

I'm producing Moai Statues in ClamFish, that will really boost it's production when finished. It's going to take a little while though, even if whipping is possible near the end.

So, I think that's about all. I don't think it's worth uploading a screenshot at this point, you'll see everything clearer when you load my game.

Sorry for being rather absent the latest days! (had a bunch of work)

From the last turn I thought most games were rather strong, actually, but since we already decided to go with my save, I'll go directly to discussing my next 30 turns based on that save.

Spoiler :

I stopped expanding rapidly after turn 80. Managed to chop the Great Lighthouse in Babylon, and after currency we now have a strong economy. Decided to go for code of laws before monarchy, which was a hard decision, since we are hurting from the lack of happiness resources.

However, the Organized trait was what made me decide for CoL. Cheap Courthouse whipping will help us cover our Island and maybe the thin one to the NE, without hurting too much. Monarchy should arrive soon enough from trade route commerce.

Only founded 1 new city, so apart from techs, the Babylonian empire looks pretty similar to turn 80:

Hi guys. I'm afraid I'm going to have to bail out of this game. I'm going to be travelling a lot with work over the next month so I won't really have time to play and comment on everyone's games.

So thanks to everyone for everything done so far - it's been fun.

Sorry to hear that chopstyx
I hope we will get to play together once again in the future.
Good luck with your work !

Jamesds, what do you think about making a public announcement about some vacancies in our roster ?

Well, let's get my part going.

Having not too much time, I have played every single turn except the last five… Shame on me… Too much writing perhaps ?

First part - turn 81 to 95 :

Spoiler :

As for this turnset my goals were the following :
- GET the GREAT LIGHTHOUSE
- GET the two fishing tiles at work asap
- GET a galley & a scout to China
- GET Construction & start military pump

Easy to say…

At first, I took most of the workers and made them pre-chop the forest tiles around Babylon. While pre-chopping, I put a road on spices, between Nippur & Babylon ( though, due to Sailing, we already had Bronze everywhere ).
Nippur finished a work boat and started the next one. On the same turn ( 83 ), I put the library on hold in Babylon to start the Lighthouse ( which was chopped on the next turn ). Got some improvements here and there while doing the preparation stuff for the Great Lighthouse, and connected Nippur & Dur to the network.

Pretty soon after, Nippur finished his second work boat and went on a worker ( I think you have never too much of those guys – at least in the early game ). I :whipped: the library in Akkad to reduce unhappiness and boost science – hammer overflow went on a galley. I chopped also the library in Babylon with the overflow on Great Lighthouse. I had the spear up in Dur and started Library.

In 575BC, as the Math arrived in the Babylonian empire, all four workers were positioned on pre-chopped tiles waiting for a go in this mass-chopping project ( with Math +50% chop boost, we should be near completion of our first great wonder ).

Drums please….

Not enough, we still have six turns to go ( well, in the best micro-management config, starving a little bit our people  ). Will this be enough to beat the AI ? Answer in the next episode ( after I play the last five turns ;) ).

Still, as I want to split in two equal parts, a few more turns have to be covered ( no, you won’t have the answer to the above in this post :) ). A galley was up in Akkad and started his journey to the west towards China ( a scout was already there, spotting first signs of barb activity on our island – a full bunch of warriors, wow ). In the meantime, I :whipped: the monument in Borsippa ( the work boat will be pretty soon on the fishes ) and overflowed some hammers into a lighthouse ( we have to whip cats somewhere ;) ). Fifth worker finished in Nippur and I started Barracks for army pumping. Heroic choppers were roading up north to Borsippa and improving some land in Babylon ( farming spices ) and Dur ( farms / cottages ).

At this time, we were in 525BC…

Next episode tonight, as soon as I get the last turns done :)

Cheers everyone!

OK chopstyx, it's been great playing with you! All the best to your travels, and look out for the sequel to this (I'll be PMming those who played this SG when it starts, so they get the priority ;)).

I can't believe this is the fourth goodbye .

Well, as for a public announcement, the best I can do is register it again in the SG thread, which I shall do right now. I'll say we have space for 3, possibly 4 players. And it's easy enough to fit in halfway through this SG (well, we're only about a tenth through probably...), since we are all continuing from one save.

Thanks for getting your save in frob - you have an amazing economy, that was great thinking to get the great lighthouse, and pawelo seems to be on the same path too. All our cities are coastal, so it has effectively doubled your science when compared with mine.

And thanks for doing some of your game pawelo, if it is in tonight, that will be fine.

Hello,

I would love to join your game guys. I've been following your game from the beginning and love the way you play it.

BTW Don't be scared by my post count :), until today I only read these forums but your game made me register.

That's excellent! Welcome aboard, Erathelix :). I didn't know we had secret lurkers .

So, what do you want to do? Either you can read all the first post and play the current round save (which is linked to in the first post if you can't find it) or you could wait until the next round, and just join in the discussion for this round. Since you've been watching the game, you'll have a good idea how it is played and what has happened so far, so you'll integrate easily. Your choice!

Always great to have more players

Also guys, what do you think about setting up a cycle ( well, it depends of course on our family/educationnal/professionnal obligations ) : 2 or 3 days to debate and vote, 2 days to play and report ? I know there's no hurry, but it's very hard to stop on the deadline turn and have to wait for more than a week...

That sounds great pawelo, but without meaning to rush you, and being as friendly as I can, you're the last to get your save in for this round :p. But yes, as long as we are all able to keep up we will do that.

As a matter of fact, that's what we've been doing already...it's just I've been a bit lax on some of the deadlines ;). So yes, keep checking the first post because I update it with new deadlines sometimes. We must come to a conclusion by Friday, so the save can be released and played for Sat/Sun.

Yeah, right
Too much family, too little time... Well, it won't happen every day neither ;)
You have my save and the second part by tonight ( tonight might meen 0H00 GMT ) :mischief:

No, don't worry about it too much - that's why I don't want to be too restrictive, because family and work is more important than a game. So a day late, if it must happen, is acceptable. It is made easier since this is a small SG. If we had, say, 15 players then we'd really have to stick rigidly to deadlines.

And, just to make sure, it's turn 110 we are playing to - you said you were on turn 95 above, and that you didn't play the last 5 turns...so I thought you might have got the impression it was turn 100.

Having it in by tonight would be super!

Thx guys,

I will play the current round for myself only, and join the regular game next round if its ok with you.

As for me, it works!

@Jamesds
I have played until turn 105 in fact, the split in my report is for suspense purposes :D

:(
Sorry to say guys, but I lost my try for this turn. My PC :nuke: badly while I was only three turns to go, and I had, after a few trials ( pc crashing even in safe-mode ), to format my drive and re-install the OS.
I have just recovered my web, still every card/motherboard etc has to be reinstalled, before re-installing civ & co...
Well, count on me for a nice report ( without final state though ) about what I tried to do of my remaining turns, and for a debate around your games.

Cheers guys,

Pawelo

Wow!! That's quite serious. Well, I hope you get everything up and running without too much trouble. It is unfortunate that your game will not count for this round, since we don't have it (and I have a feeling you were going to do quite well too - obviously you got the GL! ;)).

Anyway, I'll submit the stats for this round with only the 3 of us, asap.

Well, here they are, I've used a design similar to Zetetic's, since his was a good one, and I've added one or two things. More to come... (Zetetic, you can have the job back if you play the sequel!!)

Please advise me upon any improvements (inc. colour schemes :) ). I added the buildings, since that is as important as the units - and it give me a good place to put wonders.
