THE GLOBAL ECONOMY. Since the end of the Third World War, the world has begun attempting to restore itself to economic normality. However, with economic centers moving to Nagasaki or New York City, several regions have found their economy in critical condition. The collapse of ATO has also influenced extensive economic recession in western Europe. However, some nations have begun to prosper as markets are restored and new markets are developed. New manufacturers have risen to the occasion to make a lot of money and help their national economies prosper. See the inset below on complete details to the postwar economy.
North/Central American News Report
BRYNES WINS AMERICAN PRESIDENCY. Washington D.C., United States of America. To the surprise of many, Democratic Party nominee James Brynes won the Presidential elections of 1944. Brynes won on a platform relying on American bitterness toward Europe and the growing threat of Nippon to United States interests. The Nipponese occupation of Bolivia and the creation of a Venezuelan government in exile in Saigon have both exacerbated tensions between the rising two superpowers. Brynes used this to his advantage, rallying the people to a platform of peace and reform, while keeping an eye to the west. (-5% Dissent)

RIOTS IN VENEZUELA. Caracas, United States of America. The former capital city of Venezuela rose in open revolt against the American occupiers in early March. Other coastal population centers also joined with extensive rioting. American military leaders in the territory dispatched light armored forces into the cities quelling the unrest. Civilian casualties are reported to be in the thousands. Agitators from the Venezuelan Liberation Front are believed to be responsible for the unrest. (Local Opinion goes to Liked for the VLF)
NIPPONESE OCCUPY BOLIVIA. Sucre, Occupied Bolivia. After a political conference at Santiago, members of the Chilean, Nipponese, and German governments agreed to allow Nipponese occupation of the conquered South American nation. With the German civil war continuing and the rising tide of revolt in South America, the Kaiser determined that it was no long efficient to maintain a Pacific empire. The year-long transfer of power from Berlin to Tokyo was the first step in ending the German colonial era.

IRISH WITHDRAW FROM FRANCE. Paris, France. De Gaulle was met with wild celebrations within the former capital of France, following the unilateral Irish withdrawal from the occupation zone. The French government has promised economic and political protection to Irish occupants of the city of Cherbourg, the heart of the Irish occupation. De Gaulle has moved his regime to Paris, announcing it to be the restored capital of the nation. He has also promised to restore the city to its former grandeur, rebuilding such monuments like the Arch de Triumphe and the Eiffel Tower.
SCANDINAVIA IN CHAOS. Stockholm, Republic of Scandinavia. As the Kings of Scandinavia went to sign over control of Norway to the leader of the radical Norwegian nationalist group, Ledig Norge, a military coup, lead by Prime Minister Axel Weimar, declared a new republic in Stockholm. President Weimar denounced the Kings and said that any treaty made with the Ledig Norge was void. Military forces then moved against the meeting in Oslo, killing the bulk of the rebel leaders, though Alexander of Oldenburg managed to escape. The former Kings of Scandinavia were cut down in crossfire as heavy fighting occurred in the city. In response, pre-positioned Norwegian forces attacked the Rikstag in Stockholm and sparked anti-Norwegian riots throughout the city. Axel Weimar has been forced to declare martial law throughout the nation. However, Alexander has proclaimed this to be a treacherous act and has managed to rally international and local support to his cause. Military actions throughout Norway have further angered the world press, and the Scandinavian government has received scathing reports from both America and European nations. REALLY ENDS IN EUROPE. The last stand of Greece has occurred at the Battle of Athens where Italian forces stormed the city, which had been transformed into a fortress of bunkers and cement tunnels. GERMAN CIVIL WAR. The forces of the Kaiser have suffered significant setbacks as the war drags onward. Instead of launching a major offensive against Nazi forces, the Gestapo proceeded to arrest a large number of panzer and Luftwaffe leaders who formerly worked with Rommel or Goring. These purges have badly hampered the efficiency of the German army and Rommel has used them to his advantage. A major armored and mechanized assault was launched toward the city of Hamburg, winning great successes and capturing the German Atlantic ports. With this offensive, the Nazis have managed to capture a significant portion of Germany’s industry and have threatened a push onto Berlin. (Nazis get 1 Base IC from monarchists; Army Quality of Monarchists decreases by 1)

NEW KING IN AFGHANISTAN. Kabul, Afghanistan. Following the death of King Nadir Shah, a new monarch has been crowned as leader of Afghanistan. King Saladin Khan has made a large amount of speeches extolling Islamic and ethnic unification. However, he has made several inflammatory speeches calling for a combined Central Asian monarchy rather than unification with the new power in Baghdad. The new Turan Movement has become incredibly popular with nationalists in Central Asian nations of Sinkiang and Turkestan. Many foreign observers believe that the three Brotherhood of Islamic Nations countries may unite before 1948.
GERMAN SELLS ASIAN COLONIAL EMPIRE. Los Angeles, United States of America. German colonial authorities have signed over full control of the German colonial empire in Asia and the Pacific to the United States. This was one of the last acts of the Lindbergh regime before the elections in November. These possessions of course include the island of Singapore and several other islands around the Nipponese territory of New Guinea.
JIYO-TO PARTY WINS ELECTION IN NIPPON. Tokyo, Nippon. With the rise in tensions between Nippon and the United States, the liberal Jiyo-to Party has been elected to power on a platform of anti-Americanism and foreign policies opposing that of the United State. This is mostly due to the election of James Brynes in the United States, the American occupation of Singapore and the rest of German East Asia, and the American annexation of northern South America. The new government has also advocated similar policies to that of the European Economic Community to be enacted in East Asian nations.

EIRE. Dublin, Eire. The once prospering economy of Eire has hit into a recession rivaling that of the Great Depression. The loss of the vital resources of northern France have been the start of the decline. The situation worsened when it became apparent that there were no Irishmen to return from the 2nd Battle of Trotskygrad, making it obvious that the nation was suffering from a lack of manpower. The collapse of ATO trade agreements was the straw which broke the drunkard’s back, bringing the economy down to nearly 50% of the prewar production and strength. The economic situation has destabilized an already faltering state as unrest continues to grow in Northern Ireland as the Protestants continue to call for unification with the Commonwealth, despite heavy opposition from the Catholic south. NORTH AMERICA. New York, United States of America. No nation has prospered more from the Third World War than the United States. Nations in western Europe, the Middle East, and South America have found themselves buying American oil and finished goods. Especially automobiles have been seen all over the world as the American government churns out car after car from the US Automotive Works in Detroit. The USA has also been competitive in African and eastern European markets, although more local national corporations have been making a significant dent in the American profits from those regions. (+5 Private Enterprise for USA)
SOUTH AMERICA. Santiago, Chile. The Third World War brought unprecedented destruction to the southern continent of the western hemisphere. Most of the standing regimes were dismantled or destroyed and the infrastructure of the region was devastated. With a rebuilding process underway, so far Chilean businessmen have taken the lion’s share of the profits which did not go to the United States. However, the growing penchant for electronics in Brazil has potential, as new markets in electronic devices open up in the United States and the surviving South American nations. NORTHWESTERN EUROPE AND BRITAIN. London, Union of Commonwealth States. The British Islands were one of the few regions in Europe which were untouched by the devastation of the war. During the conflict London became a refuge for the exile governments of Europe, and in response it became a center of commerce for the new regimes established in Iberia. However, after the initial success of the new governments, the end of ATO and the lack of natural resources have brought most of northwestern Europe into a recession, the UCS being the sole exception. The details of the economic growth and decline are here:

SOUTHERN EUROPE. Milan, Italy. Italy itself was barely effected by the war with the Soviet Union. Fighting with the Muslims occurred on the extremities of the empire and the Greeks never posed a threat to the Italian peninsula. Mussolini’s programs of self-sufficiency and internal development minimized the damage caused by the dissolution of ATO and the recession in western Europe. However the loss of Egypt and the heavy casualties inflicted on Italian armies in Greece have caused a minor decline in the Italian industrial output, but many are confident the economy will recover with time and participation in the European Economic Community. Other nations in the south have been hit with minor economic decline as well. The total list is here:
Italy: -2 IC
Switzerland: -1 IC
EASTERN EUROPE. Warsaw, Poland. Thanks to Soviet industrial efforts in eastern Poland, the Poles have found themselves with an intact industry and lots of resources. They have quickly developed this to their advantage and thanks to the Polish state, several Eastern European nations have managed at least a minor economy recovery. However, in some regions the effect of the dissolution of ATO can be felt as recession continues to effect the formerly allied nations. The list is once more here:
Hungary: +1 IC
Poland: +2 IC
Romania: +1 IC
Serbia: -1 IC
AFRICA. Monrovia, Liberia. The former economic giant of Liberia has begun recovering its strength with the conclusion of the war. Liberian automobiles have made significant gains in Abyssinia as the Emperor Isayu V begins construction of a multitude of highways. Liberian industrial goods have also been made popular in the rising republic of the CSA and the West African Union. (+2 Private Enterprise for Liberia)
ASIA. Nagasaki, Nippon. Thanks to the efforts of the Western Pacific Alliance, trade continued unabated throughout the war. However, the recession in Europe, and continuing instability in the region has caused many merchants to continue using Nipponese flags to peruse their trades. The economy of Nippon continues to boom thanks to Europe’s trouble. (+4 Private Enterprise for Nippon)
