Spl02: Noob-Party

I was just looking at the ingame stats, and apparently, we are #1 in production! (We're also dead last in food and gold...)

Also, (when) are we going to switch to slavery, as it is available, and will be useful for the Oracle...

Sorry this takes a while ... since splime insisted on no-BUG mod, I had to have a separate BTS folder set up.

Anyway, our injured warrior who was intended as the city protector had an adventure with the lion:

He survived :D. Before the founding of Shanghai, I decided to revolt, since we wouldn't want two cities to suffer the anarchy instead of one.

Shanghai was founded, and I :smoke: into starting a warrior. In retrospect, should have started a monument to get copper in. So, next player please change the build to a monument.

Meanwhile, the other warrior has his own share of fun. He met a bull that sits:

and brought home the secrets of pottery from a nearby hut.

Tech-wise, I continue on with our plan to go oracle, and thus went ahead for polytheism (even though it was founded already).

Looks good. (BTW, the only reason I said no BUG mod was because I've heard it messes up some things... but sorry if that delayed your turnset...)

That was some good luck with the pottery! Wouldn't have expected a free tech on Prince... Good turnset though, besides your :smoke: move... :p Still, you are the experienced player around here, so I expected as much... ;)

Roster:
1. Splime
2. Quotey
3. GreyFox (just played)
4. Admiral Kutzov (up - 15 turns)
5. TheLastOne36 (on deck)
6. Morred
7. dawn

Ah, Admiral, but the place "where no one has gone before" is operating on a different timezone. Today is "tomorrow" here ... :crazyeye:

Can you specify what this time zone is? (I know that it is more than GMT -5...)

Singapore? 'Bout time to ring in the New Year there![party]

An actual Civ related question - I heard that the animals don't get any defensive bonus when the player (or AI I guess) attacks them, regardless of the terrain. Anyone know if that is true?

That's a warrior attacking a wolf on a forested hill, so they get river bonuses, but none else. I'm assuming they'll also get a bonus if you're attacking from the sea, but I don't see that happening too often.

Happy New Year Grey Fox! and soon to everyone else here!

i see i'm after the admiral... I'm gonna try to figure out how to uninstall the BUG mod.

Turn 70 - Switch Shanghai to monument

Turn 72 - Whip monument

Turn 77 - Poly -> Priest

Turn 79 - Shanghai finishes warrior, starts granary

Turn 83 - Stonehenge builf IFAL

Turn 84 - Wolf Killer survives attack by barb warrior

Turn 85 - Priest -> Metal Casting

Shanghai's border pops in 3. We need some cottages or we'll be old and grey by the time MC comes in. Bronze is almost hooked up. We met the Ports in the NW, screenie didn't take.

Why are we researching Metal Casting? We want to sling MC with oracle.

Thanks, everyone, it's still an hour away here, but Happy New Year!

@TLO: what I did was to rename the "My Games\Beyond The Sword" folder to "My Games\Beyond the Sword.BUG" as backup. Next time you start BtS, the "My Games\Beyond The Sword" folder will be recreated.

Why are we researching Metal Casting? We want to sling MC with oracle.

Our ambitious plan is to sling Machinery, thus getting us some Cho-ko-nus (w/ Archery, of course, which we don't have yet).

So, should we start on the Oracle in Beijing, as we have plenty of forests there? If yes, we should start after the current worker is out, in order to make sure we can get it.

EDIT: Ha! I just checked, and MC is due in 54 turns! I think we should sling MC instead, and start working on the Oracle after the warrior in Beijing is finished.

And also, all subsequent peace-time turnsets from here on out should be 15 turns. If war makes up a large chunk of the turnset, 10 turns should be played instead. By war, I mean actual fighting, not phony war.

Just an extra note, I was reading this about Cho-ko-nu strategy in the War Academy:

On a final note, here's a tip on how to get Chukonus early and really overrun your neighbours: Choose Qin Shi Huang as your leader and aim to build the Oracle to grab Metal Casting (requires Pottery and Bronze Working). The Industrious trait makes getting the Oracle viable, even without marble. Metal Casting leads to Machinery, but it also allows you to build your cheap Industrious forges. Build one asap and run an engineer specialist. When a Great Engineer is born, use him to lightbulb Machinery, giving you access to the Chinese UU very early. But do note that Machinery requires Iron Working and Chukonus need the iron resource to be built, so make sure you get this tech researched while waiting for the GE to be born. The worst scenario is finding no iron in your territory. To help prevent this situation, research Iron Working as quickly as possible to locate iron resources and claim them if necessary.

Basically, if we sling MC, get a forge going, research iron working, and find iron, then the forge's engineer specialists can help us bulb machinery.
