Spl02: Noob-Party

We can get The Oracle down to 13 turns at Stagnant, 12 turns with a small loss and 11 turns working all the 3+:hammers: . Need to queue it up right behind the warrior. A forest chop should seal the deal for us.

Tech wise maybe switch over to Writing -> fishing -> sailing? We'll need lighthouses for the 2nd copper city, city b, and the horse city. We also need Writing for the libraries as we'll have to run some GS to control population (not a lot of happiness resources in our general area).

Just an extra note, I was reading this about Cho-ko-nu strategy in the War Academy:

Basically, if we sling MC, get a forge going, research iron working, and find iron, then the forge's engineer specialists can help us bulb machinery.

Sounds like a plan!

i'll play tomorow. and thanks greyfox on the advice on uninstalling BUG.

Yeah, do the Engineer method. It's near impossible to Oracle Machinery, after some tries.

sounds good, I think I said that last time, but it still sounds good. We might want to pause once we grab Machinery to work out strategy. Straight into attack? I would think so but we may want a few more cities to start cranking. Either way...sounds good :P

Lurking

You're probably aware of this but if you get MC through the Oracle you start to build up GP points for a prophet so you need to get a forge built and an engineer specialist running in another city fairly quick to get the GE first (and then you have to avoid the temptation of all the lovely wonders you could be rushing instead of bulbing machinery).

:newyear:

Oh crap. Yeah, we need to prechop forests before getting the Oracle. Crap.

How many turns leeway do we have?

Greyfoxes advice on uninstalling BUG works like a charm. So to reinstall it again, all i have to do is rename the new one to something else and the BUG one to the old one right?

Things look good. Press enter.

Turn 1: Worker done in Beijing. Start Oracle (19 turns)
Turn 4: Connect copper to our cap.
Turn 7: Granary done in Shanghai, Start warrior (after that settler to get the other site.
Turn 9: Connect Shang Hai to capital. Bandits are wreaking the Ethiopian Lands
Nothing for the rest of the set.

Oracle is due in 1 turn. (i miscalculated my chops...) and two chops will be done in 1 turn. 1 in ShangHai for the settler, 1 in Beijing for whatever we're building next.

Thoughts: I didn't get to explore much as i wanted to see if Joao is expanding our way. He isn't (although he might be planning on putting a city on a small peninsula up north) which might mean there are more people on our continent.

I just noticed that i had 1 HUGE :smoke: move... I forgot to change Metal Casting from our research! We've been researching MC the entire time! (46 more turns left :p) Well that's why i'm here... To get rid of :smoke: moves like that.

I think we should be settling a few more cities now. Especially with Joao as our neighbor.

Save

Oof, we needed to prechop a forge in another city. Delay Oracle or "forget" about Machinery shot (try it anyway)?

Roster:
1. Splime
2. Quotey
3. GreyFox
4. Admiral Kutzov
5. TheLastOne36 (just played)
6. Morred (up)
7. dawn (on-deck)

TLO: besides the :smoke: , good job. :p

As far as those forests, we should stop them being chopped, and remember which ones they are, for future purposes.

As far as the forges, we should get that started in Shanghai, to avoid too much GP pollution.

Also, we may want to start cranking out our copper army...

So, should we settle city B or the horse site?

What do you mean? How can we make forges without Metal Casting? Were getting Metal Casting through Oracle right?

Edit: Horse City is Safe for now. Ethiopia ain't expanding that fast. I'm more worried about Joao though.

You need MC for forges. We should let the Oracle happen, build forges elsewhere (and get specialists), and then get our GE.

Make sure to get Iron Working before the GE (to bulb Machinery), and we should have Archery by then too, so we can get our Cho-ko-nus.

Yep, that should do it.

Still Lurking

At epic speed Beijing will take 75 turns to produce a Prophet. Shanghai would take 50 turns to produce a GE from an engineer specialist so you've got 25 turns to get a forge built and a specialist allocated. You're industrious so get double hammers for a forge, couple of chops and you'll be fine.

and i forgot to mention, ShangHai will be done it's settler in 4 or so turns with the next chop. So the settler can stay.

OK then, it should work out fine.

EDIT: Also, I've noticed that we're lagging behind the others in power, so we may want to fix that...

Just for discussion before the settler pops...

agreed. Need a few axes asap.

Looks like we need a few things at once, hehe. Got the save. So before I go and make a :smoke: move and ruin all of our plans. Let the Oracle get itself builted then we chop a forge in Shanghai (after the settler?) and run an Engineer specialist to get us them shiny machinery points. Iron Working -> Archery
Then we start building up our copper army. Right.

As for the 'block portuguese' site, we would need a ton of culture there, as well as Calendar, but I think it could be done. Otherwise we can look into city site B, I assume.

And do we want to do anything with the chop around Beijing? We could get a quick Axeman going, or we could try for another settler for some quicker expansion, or something else which isn't coming to me right now.

I'll be playing in a few hours, so plenty of time to responses hopefully :D

B gives us resources we already have. Horses is too far away. Red blocks the Ports and channels them into the jungle to clear it for us.

agreed, but where else will we find easy happy gas? :whipped: temple would be huge.

we could try for another settler for some quicker expansion
can the economy support that now?

Also, make sure to grab Metal Casting as our free tech.

That Portugal Blocker looks like it may be alright. However, we definitely need to settle site B soon, or at least another coastal site, as navy will be important on this map (it's Fractal).
