I'd hardly call one post spam... I'd like to think of it as more of a "free bump". :p

Okay, here we go. Looks like an exciting turn-set.

Turn 0: Change the research to Iron Working. Hit enter.
Turn 1:

oraclefb8.png

Oracle done, choose Metal Casting as planned. I'm tossing up whether to build an axeman or a settler, as we have a very useful chop which speeds things up. I decided upon an Axeman to give Beijing a bit more of a chance to grow, and we'd need one to escort the Settler anyway, if we choose against two new cities then we have an Axeman. Okay, 74 turns until a Great Prophet comes up, 74 turns for this settler to finish and to build a forge and run a GE for 50 turns (which is apparently enough). This means we'll need a few more chops to rush the settler, ah well. I also take a warrior off the backburner in case I forget about it later.
Turn 2: I get the worker over at Beijing to connect our cows.
Turn 3: Start a chop at Shanghai, Beijing hits size 5, I've turned on avoid growth but done some micromanagement which has us with 1 less commerce but 4 extra hammers. So future people remember to change that later on when we get a few more happiness over there.
Turn 4: Axeman done in Beijing, start on Settler. Axeman is going to go to our 'block Joao' city spot to fogbust.
Turn 5: hi
Turn 6: nothing
Turn 7: Settler done in Shanghai, start on a Forge, chop due in two. Then the worker is going to the new city to chop a quick monument.
Turn 8: Nothing to see here, move right along
Turn 9: Worker in Beijing starts to mine a forested hill, chop first then a mine.
Turn 10: Our wolfkiller proves he's more than the name bargained for

Turn 11:

guangzhouoh5.png

Woo! :) Worker starts chopping a spice forest to get that monument up. I have the axeman defending the city to dissuade Joao from using that chariot for offensive reasons. For now the escorting warrior is going up north to see what Joao does about our little blocking city. Also, I must have missed it, but the Ethiopians have a fany wall around their borders, which will mean a great wall. Maybe I just don't read turn reports properly enough ;) Oh, with the new city we're down to breakeven 70% research so I say that we delay on a 4th city for now
Turn 12: Forge is done, I start on an axeman and we're running an engineer =] Oh, Guangzhou asks to join the Portoguese and I accept because I'm so nice...but not really, hehe.
Turn 13: Nothing, except the exciting news that we're on top in score
Turn 14:

settlerdk2.png

Hmm, interesting. Looks like Joao needs to keep expanding. I feel he's either going to settle in place or one of the two yellow dots for the clams.

Turn 15: They ended up settling in place, which could give us some cultural problems in the future. Settler is done, I'm not going to do anything with him for now, I'll leave it up to the group to decide when/where to place it. I start Beijing on an Axeman. Shanghai has an Axeman due in 1 turn, it also just reached size 4, which is its limit. I suggest a worker after the axeman is done. Monument should be done in 4 turns if my calculations are correct. We do have a problem on the eastside, as they're expanding quicker than we want. So we may need to use the settler right now for a quick holding action and to grab some prime land, even if we end up down to 60(or even 50)% science.
dotsnq6.png

If we got all three (highly unlikely) we'd have a great border, but I'm not going to aim that high. If we settled grey dot we'd also be sharing 5 tiles with city b if we settled that also. Red dot is quite a way away from our capital, so we'd need some courthouses or something, or terrible science. So honestly the best bet would be to settle blue dot, except it's not on the coast. And we'd need to settle before Iron Working, which could have made our decision much easier.Of course if we can nab Machinery early enough hopefully we can take some land by force.

Reccomended tech path:
Iron Working -> Archery -> Fishing/Agriculture -> Beeline to Calendar

quick edit: ignore the horses comment for grey dot ;)
quick edit 2: save may be useful

Okay, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Red Dot.

1. It has the most hills so we're most likely to get Iron :P
2. If this were a real war another civ would settle around Blue Dot and we could crush them in a pincer attack. Unfortunately this isn't real war....in fact our forces would just be split and red dot could probably be attacked easily.

Perhaps Blue Dot and try and crank another settler somewhere and settle either Red Dot or Grey Dot, whichever isn't taken, and fill things out with City B. Blue Dot, Red Dot and City B could be a good combination. In short, I don't know, hehe.

Do we really want city b? It gives us no resources, and will produce little. It only shares coastal squares with red dot from what i can see, so it's be okay to settle both.

Green dot will mean Jaoa has to go through the thin land above Beijing or by sea, to settle.

I would say go for blue dot. Red dot we get the danger of being cut off by Sitting Bull or Joao. It doesn't really matter if we didn't get all the land we want in the settling phase, since we are aiming for CKN anyway, which indicate a war path. CKN requires metal, so i will say the next city depends on iron. Iron being a more readily found metal shouldn't be a big problem though.

If that plainshill in Beijing doesn't have Iron, I'll eat my hat.

The one Hammurabi's wearing in your avatar? Cause it'll take some time to finish it off....

I agree, Ounce we get the Joao Blocker city, Blue dot is next. If we don't get Machinery by then, Red dot.

Morred: Good turnset. I also especially like the dotmap, as it really helps.

As far as cities go, we'll definitely need a coastal city which can produce, and city B will be a good filler which also acts as a close port. Blue dot is also a good city.

Also, I just noticed, I believe a canal is possible from Blue dot to the ocean, if we use forts. (This comes at the waste of one fat cross tile.) Then, city B won't be needed, and the gray dot won't steal city space. In fact, at the waste of one tile in the blue dot's fat cross, we can also have the canal extend to the north.

Just a note, city b and grey dot do share one non-coastal square. I can't remember which one it is, possibly a forested grassland.

Joao Blocker city has been built :) Settler has also already been built, so we can settle in a number of turns.

Edit: Splime - Good pickup :)

Good Luck Dawn =]

Okay, here goes.

IHT #115 1125BC - Gauangzhou: MM to get 6 turns off the monument.
Shanghai: 47 turns to GE, queue up a barracks (no sense in making untrained axes).
Beijing: Queue up a worker (we desperately need more - currently 2 with three cities is not good)
Look through Demographics and see that we are dead last in troops.

#116 1100BC - Shanghai: Axe -> barracks

#117 1075BC - Jao wants OB. Since he already has a path around our northern border I agree to it.
We meet Charlemange. He came through Jao-land.
Start Axe/settler off to Blue dot.
Switch EP off Zara to Charlemagne as we need to see his demographics. Make sure to watch the EP levels and distribute as needed. I kept the higher weight on Jao since he is closest to us.

#118 1050BC - Jao comes demanding our spare cow. I turn him down.
Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

#119 1025BC - Sitting Bull comes demanding the cow. I turn him down also.
Guangzhou: monument -> granary

#120 1000BC - Whip Shanghai's barracks and let the overflow go into the axe. Have to manage the starvation status manually.
Guangzhou: :smoke: move - forgot to move the citizen to spices for faster growth. Make that correction and move on......
Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

Beijing: Whip worker and let the overflow go into the forge.

#121 975BC - Moving the warrior towards blue dot finds this:
Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

#122 950BC - Shanghai: axe -> axe
Start 2 cottages around Beijing.

#123 925BC - Judaism FIDL
Scout out Jao:
Civ4ScreenShot0005.jpg

End of part I, Part II coming off the press shortly......

Part II

#124 900BC - Founded Nanjing (blue dot). Started monument. Will need a lot jungle cleared out to be useful.

#125 875BC - Shanghai: axe -> axe

#126 850BC - Drop to 30% research to break even

#127 825BC - zzzz

#128 800BC - Beijing: forge -> axe. Cottage finished, worker north to connect Nanjing

#129 775BC - MM Shanghai to prevent unhappiness. WARNING - watch the starvation level until the whip  wears off.

#130 750BC - MM Guangzhou to get 40% with +1:commerce: .

Final notes:
2 turns to IW
2 Axes coming up in Shanghai and Beijing
3 turns left on the cottage/forest NW of Beijing
32 turns left on GE
Worker north of Beijing is roading off to Nanjing.
We need more workers and cottages.

Looks like a nice set of turns. :)

We need to start looking into who we want to attack. For the sake of logistics I'm going to say Sitting Bull/Zara Yaqob, so we may want to put some espionage points into those two. Mainly because it looks like the landmass ends with those two civs while there is Charlie behind Jao (which is ironically my username at a number of places) and who knows what else. 40% research is a worry, but we'll just have to build up around it.

Edit:

1. Splime - UP!
2. Quotey - On Deck
3. GreyFox
4. Admiral Kutzov
5. TheLastOne36
6. Morred
7. dawn - Just Played

OK, I got the save, but playing it will probably have to wait until Friday evening, EST, thanks to homework...

So, I'm guessing I won't be building anymore cities.

Military will be a priority, as will another a worker. I'll weight our espionage towards Zara and Bull. Any issues?

Actually, Quotey, if you have time to play in the next 24 hours, do you want to take the save, and I'll play after you? Just to keep this moving along...

I can still play within the 24/48 guidelines though...

Actually, if anyone else wants to take the save within 24-48 hours, before I play, you can do so without skipping your normal spot in the roster.

(Go ahead and claim the spot, as I won't be on for another 24 hours...)
