President Brynes lost the 1948 in a surprising landslide which has found the newly reforged Republican Party in complete command of Congress and the Presidency. The only truly disputed election was the primaries which were highly contested between Winston Churchill and Douglas MacArthur. Douglas MacArthur, a general who led his troops to victory against the Bourbons and helped establish the current existing Iberian regimes, won the nomination. With Churchills support and his new position as Secretary of State, President-elect MacArthur has vowed to take a tougher line against all of Americas enemies and potential enemies, both in Asia and Europe.

ELECTIONS IN CHILE. Santiago, Chile. Following an embezzlement scandal indicting President Vildera of Chile in the late months of 1948, the Radical Liberal Party won in a landslide. The new President Grove Vallejo has vowed to end some of the more rightist conservative policies and help expand South American socialism. In a landmark meeting between President Vallejo and President Duartes of Argentina, the two nations have sealed a permanent nonaggression pact and have vowed to work together to build a brighter future for South American workers.
FOOD CRISIS CONTINUES IN VENEZUELA. Caracas, United States of America. Bread riots occurred throughout the former Venezuelan capital of Caracas as food rationing becomes more and more restrictive. However, a significant minority of Venezuelans have begun turning their rage against the Venezuelan Liberation Front which has been tied extensively to the destruction of the food trains through Panama. Reports have also been made that rationing will be lifted upon individuals who turn in members of the VLF, and several notable former officers of the Venezuelan Army have been captured by American military authorities.

ZHUKOV PLEDGES NEW RUSSIA. Kiev, Ukraine. Following a recent series of Soviet crackdowns on anti-communist parties throughout Russia, several notable generals including the hero of Trotskygrad, General Zhukov, have pledged support to a new organization, termed Novaya Russia. Ukrainian politicians have claimed that in order for Russia to be a progressive state they should once more open up free elections. Even leaders from Mongolia and Transamur have called for free elections in the Soviet Union, supporting the claims of Zhukov.
BATTLE OF TRONDHEIM. Trondheim, Republic of Scandinavia. Following an American attempt to arrest Alexander Oldenburg, leader of the Ledig Norge in Trondheim, the Americans and Norwegians entered into their first open battle. The American force won an easy victory against the local militia in the city, though the forces were nearly overrun until the arrival of fresh troops from Stockholm. Though Alexander remains free, American forces secured the city as the militia retreated into the mountains and countryside. (-1 Militia Division for Ledig Norge)

ABYSSINIAN ELECTIONS. Addis Abba, Abyssinia. The first Abyssinian elections were held this year, and with astounding support from both the rich and poor, the King threw his lot in with the Conservative Coalition under Prime Minister Josuf Akka and the powerful voting bloc of the Agrarian Political Union has made its voice heard in a major voter turnout. However, the election results were met with riots throughout Somalia, which have been sparked by local Imams, extolling Islamic unity and denouncing the heathen Christian liberal despotism.
CRISIS IN TURKEY. Ankara, Turkey. Since the overthrow of the Imams in 1947, Turkey has been hastily preparing for elections by May of 1948. The Sons of Ataturk have won by a significant majority, particularly after absorbing the Turkish Communist Party. Tensions have mounted as Turkey has joined the European Economic Community and the European League. However, it has become apparent that the Sons of Ataturk have quickly made a deal with the Soviet Union. By July 1948, liberal press announced that Soviet forces had established an air base in Turkey. Many reputable government sources across the world have confirmed that the Soviets have deployed a squadron of their feared Bear High Altitude Bombers as well as at least one nuclear weapon to the nation. Islamic leaders have denounced the move as a direct threat at the nations of the Brotherhood.
WAR IN WEST AFRICA. Mexican and Sokoto forces, in a surprising coalition, have launched an invasion of the new nation of New Zion. The governments of both nations have denounced New Zion as an illegitimate state and have refused to recognize the country. Jewish military forces have been hard pressed to defend against the massive onslaught and have nearly been pushed into the sea. Neighboring nations have become actively involved with the war, as New Zion earlier entered into the League of African Nations with the CSA and WAU.
