One question, I have examined the excel file that describes the traits and civics and have noticed that some of them doesn´t match with those implemented in the mod, especially the cunning trait, that says +3 espionage points per city and actually is a bonus of 10% (clearly underpowered), what about that?
And a suggestion, do you have plans on adding more civics categories?, and future techs and units?
Yeah, I think I forgot to update the Excel file when I did one of the patches. I noticed this after I released v1.03 after I made some more Trait adjustments. When v1.04 comes out, the Excel file will match the Traits. Sorry for the confusion on that one, but when in doubt... go with what the acutal mod says. The Excel sheet "are merely guidelines".
One of these days I may add a new Civic category. But I'll need some extensive python help in order for it to work the way I want it to. So until then... stock Civics it is (for now).
Hi again. I couldn't get those pesky icon problems disappear, so I reinstalled the game, downloaded HiTM, including patches and fixes, and crossed my fingers. Unfortunately, it was all for nothing. I guess I
could live with Í's replacing some missing icons, but all those icons appearing in city names is just
too much. Any idea at all why they´re appearing?
As stated before, I'm playing BtS 3.13, HiTM 1.03+interim fixes, English language on Windows XP. I'd really like to play this mod, 'cause it looks outstanding...
Bibracte?
That's a perplexing issue you have there, Sindri. I hate to say it, but I think the reason you're having that issue is because somewhere along the line, you're using a non-English version of
something. I noticed you live in Sweden... alot of foreign countries (non-American) seem to have various text related issues with HiTM. Most of the issues arise because I only use <English> text tags. However, your issue seems to be Python related, as if the game is reading the wrong cells in the GameFont files.
So I really don't know how to address this. That's why I put that disclaimer, "English Only".
The Cunning trait, I kinda agree with. Firstly though I must say that I really hate the spy aspect of BTS, but since I always play with random leaders, I eventually got a "cunning" one. The thing is, for a good part of the game (especially all the early game) the 10% is meaningless. Only your cap is making a base 4 spy pts, you can't even make spies till Monarchy, so it feels like playing a whole trait down for a lot of the game.
That's true... the way the game is structured, Cunning won't really come into play until you get Monarchy. I do see Cunning coming into play later in the game, once you build up a good Espionage network.
Of course, I'm alway open to suggestions for areas of improvement!
Hello,
Finally, how come I can sometimes see what other civs are researching? Even if I don't have money allocated to espionage?
Alot of the interface tweaks are customizable in BUG Mod. Try messing with it's settings and see what you come up with.
Drew answered some of your other questions above.
I have fixed it. The problem lies with Civilization IV complete registry keys. Here is the "Civilization IV" registry key, with InstallDir;
Now if you look in the "Beyond the Sword" registry key folder;
You can see that the "complete" edition has no "InstallDir" registry key here. So I manually added one as per this screenshot;
And voila, History In The Making now works
Note: The full location of the registry key looks a bit odd because it's Vista 64. Used of Vista 32/Windows XP may need to look elsewhere for their civilization iv registry key, but the same principle of the fix applies to anybody that has the "Complete" DVD edition - just insert "InstallDir" in to the "Beyond the Sword" key folder with a complete path (including trailing "/" at the end) to the Beyond The Sword folder within the Civilization IV folder.
Hope this helps others, and maybe you can add this to the FAQ for now Grave?
Thanks both Dale & Grave for helping with this problem
Hell yeah I'll add that to the FAQ! Thank you SOOOO much for figuring this out! I'm sure it'll save a ton of people alot of headache.
RELIGION
-Buddhism should remain with Meditation. The Buddha used Meditation to realize the truth, and advised his followers to meditate as well.
-Confucianism should be moved to Civil Service. Confucianism stressed service to elders, teachers, rulers, parents, etc, and was very much based on Civil Service.
-Taoism should remain with Philosophy, since it introduced pure philo to China (in my opinion, correct me if I'm wrong)..
WONDERS
-Cure for Cancer? Kinda confused by this; what tech enables it (Future Tech?). Also, since it hasn't been discovered and is more of a World Wonder for Everyone, not a This Empire only World Wonder...

Buddhism: Meditation comes to early in the game. Buddhism was founded roughly 500BC, right around the time Philosophy became prominent in the ancient world. Plus, Buddhism is more of a Philosophy than a religion, if you read up on it (which I did extensively). Not only that, but one of Philosophy's PreReqTechs is Meditation, so that sort of makes up for it.
Confucianism: Again, Confucianism is almost... how should I put it, like a moral code of law. Confucianism came about roughtly the same time as Buddhism, which in turn is around the same time Codified Laws came into existance as we know it. Which is why I made Code of Laws the PreReqTech for Confucianism.
Taoism: The Philosophical Taoism came into being roughly around the time of Buddhism, so I'll give you that. However, Taoism didn't manifest itself into a religion until around 100-200AD, roughly around the same time the Chinese (in game terms) founded Civil Service, which is why I placed Taoism with Civil Service. It may not be perfect... but hey, it follows a logical and chronological timeline.
Cure for Cancer: Look at the Pedia.
I like the +3 spy points per city better myself. It should also be in addition to a 10 percent bonus. I think espionage can be weak anyway since anyone who focuses on it too much are likely under-using their tech slider. The other traits are powered pretty heavily so this cunning one should be beefed up or I will never play with a leader that has it.
Ok, I can beef it up. Maybe add a higher Espionage percentage? Higher that 10%?
