Spl02: Noob-Party

The turnset was mostly uneventful, though we did autoraze a city.

Once the supermedic arrived, we moved south, and autorazed Matara. Unfortunately, we lost a well-promoted CKN to 85% odds.

Joao "asked" to have Machinery for free, but I refused. He's still Pleased.

Towards the end of the 10 turns, we found Debre Berhan, the Confucian Holy City. It's too heavily fortified at the moment, so we should raze more stuff, then take it. However, we did do some pillaging. Right at the end, we found Aksum, also, which isn't as heavily defended.

Also of note: Christianity was founded in a distant land.

Most of the troops are headed towards the south, where there is a small city we can raze.

The save: http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/59830/Spl02_AD-0700.CivBeyondSwordSave

And no, I'm not half-naked.

Roster:
1. Splime (just played)
2. Quotey (up)
3. GreyFox (played before me)
4. Admiral Kutzov (on-deck)
5. TheLastOne36
6. Morred
7. dawn

Got it.

Must we keep Debre Berhan? Razing the holy city doesn't matter- Zara is the only Confucian. It looks completely useless for now. More cows? Really?

If I do not recieve an answer before I play I will keep it.

We don't need to keep it, though a shrine could be an easy way to fix the economy. After all, we'll have a Great Prophet eventually, and this'll be a great use for it.

Hm. Can't open the save right now, but are there any other religions on the continent? I think Charlie founded Bhud, but we most likely won't be facing him. I'm going to assume SB didn't get one. We'd have to make a massive effort to spread Conf. I'll either decide at the time or hope more people chime in.

Charlie founded Judaism. and the world is jewish.

Also, i won't be online for the next few days due to computer problems... :(

Side bet - there's a city between the stone and copper on the east coast.

No objection to razing DB. Aksum is about all we'll want to keep (subject to further fog busting.

and to everyone's delight, I am fully clothed in several layers to ward off the chill...

@splime, took a quick look at the save. We're invading in a wave rather than a stack. were you thinking of taking on multiple targets at once?

I highly recommend we connect our Port blocker city with a road through our territory and dedicate at least one city to building forces there at once.

We should trade for calender at the opportune moment.

Yes, I am still dressed.

No, one target at once. However, I wanted to pillage more efficiently, and then move south to raze that city.

Summary: Played 6 turns. Oh no.

Turn 0 (220)

To be honest, I'd have preferred to go straight for Aksum, and I hate having tiny groups of units dispersed about. We can pillage anytime (but certainly not around Aksum)

Zara has soooo many cities, this'll be hard.

I clicked on Jaoa to see how he's doing and got stuck in that damn music. Charlie has almost the same amount of cities as him. The Monarch AI is fast.

Sitting Bull is behind compared to the rest of the AIs- his CG3 Archers won't help. I hope.

Oh, and Charlie has Philosophy. Ouch. :(

Turn 1 (221)

On the IT Zara decides to kill all our units around Aksum and Debre Berhan. I'm almost relieved, but that's bad, I guess.

Currency is in! Research to Calendar because it starts with C.

Did Joao culture bomb Leira? Bloody hell. And you know what happens when I zoom in to check buildings.....

Decide to go after Axeman with the 3 main stacks. But I discover Lalibela first- and it's en route!

Yuck, the barbs didn't want to fnish the cottage. :(

Turn 2 (222)

Shangai Cho-Ko-Nu -> Courthouse
Adulis Barracks -> Courthouse

An event wants us to either gain 1+ relations with Zara, or nothing. Honestly, why wouldn't you take the relations one!Other than the text:

"Send our emmisaries to see if they are ready to discuss peace"

I am not even risking it.

Raze Qohaito for 93 gold.

Rename Adulis (city B) Chengdu. It should have been ours in the first place!

Turn 3 (223)

Dear AI: Why are you so dumb? You attacked a lone Spearman with TWO chariots? You had swordsman, Zara. Christ. Speaking of a certain Messiah, Zara gets enlightened by him this turn.

Guangzhou Axe -> Courthouse
Xian Sword -> Barracks (We shouldn't build unts without Barracks)

Raze Lalibela getting us 193.

Turn 4 (224)

You know how Aksum is on a hill? Zara just moved a stack into it this turn.

I don't know what to do, but it's in my goals, so I'll get there and see the odds.

I get us our first (I think) Drill 4 CKN... so... HE goes where? It wasn't our first Drill IV CKN, I discover.

We get another WW face. I hate WW.

Turn 5 (225)

Charlie is the worst guy ever. He cancelled our Fish for Rice deal at Friendly? And +8 for Religion? Christ. Luckily, SB offers Banana for Rice. OK!

Dear AI: You just left Aksum with 4 Units! What? I know you can see my stack. WHY?

99.3% odds for our Medic to win. Urgh. He's the only spearman in the stack, I got the rest killed. Oh well, dice rolling and all that. And I also get a CKN killed attacking a Chariot settler pair (80% odds). Not looking good.

There's a stack east of Aksum, but for all I know it could be heading for Debre Berhan. Wouldn't be surprised.

Turn 6 (226)

DEAR AI: 3 WORKERS? IN FRONT OF A CKN? WHHHAAAAATTTT?

We gain 3 workers.

I also have a look at Aksum. You know that sinking feeling you got when you were in 'Nam and stood outside of an entrenched army? Well, I'm getting that feeling now. I decide to stop, because I know I have buggered this war up. We cannot take the city. There may be a stack heading towards us right now. And I think lost half of our troops (mostly in the first turn so I'm blaming everything on Splime!)

We can look at the save and tell me (the newbie) what the hell I should have done and I or someone else can play. It's like I've planned it!

Lurker's comment:

I'd doubt that he cancelled it out of spite. It's more likely that he just got hold of a rice resource of his own..

But concerning your AI troop movement there, that is even more :smoke: than usual.
interesting read so far.

Took a very quick look at the save.

Zara will give up Calender, 90g and 2gpt for peace. Take it. Road to G-zhou and hook up the spice and incense.

Whip the CHs asap and then start building xbows again.

The time of axemen has passed. :nono: building axes.

Resume war after 10.

I think we need a comment or 2 from the grey beard fox

hmm, Admiral K's plan is ideal.

I have a question though, i still can't look at the save (comp. problems, probably till tomorow) but does Aksum have any wonders? I was thinking of razing and re-settling cities. why? We can fit 1 or two coastal cities south of Aksum and make more room for inland cities.

our economy can't support keepiing new cities (unless they're really good). aksum has the pyramids (we can see it on the map) and I presume the Gwall. IMHO, Zara's city placement sucks and I'd build a combat settler to go SE of the gold once we clear some room. I agree there's some nice territory S of Aksum, but I'd like to block Sitting Bull from getting some cheap terrritory.

We should start building a defense in G-Zhou.

We should keep an eye out for a Fuedalism trade even if it means giving up machinery. We're getting too far behind.

We should also whip a monument in the few cities that we keep.

Sitting Bull is next.

Off the wall suggestion. Weight the EPs 2 to the Ports, 1 to Native Americans and none to anyone else.

beg, borrow or steal construction.

we're not using the whip enough if we have unhappy faces.

packers beat the patriots in the super bowl. did I mention I'm an idiot? :crazyeye:

didn't see the pyramids on the map :crazyeye:

Also aren't we planning on taking sitting bull on anyway?

You can see the pyramids on the left of Aksum just above the 6-in-star in Admiral's map. Aksum is definitely a keeper, prepare to build the FP here as well. In view of that, we might not want to raze anymore cities near Aksum. Just whip a courthouse ASAP in Aksum, and chop-rush the FP. There are lots of trees around according to Admira's map.

I was hoping to get Construction before the war though, we are badly in need of sieges. Aksum will be impossible to take without very high losses sans-cats.

If we have cats, then after taking aksum, we can probably split our forces into two, one for the north, one for the bottom.

As to bull, he is definitely next-in-line.

IIRC, I am up if Quotey is done. I'm not sure if he's done. If I am up, please tell me how many I should play, following the plan outlined above.

OT - is it true that the Brits pointed all their naval artillery out to sea at the onset of WW2, allowing the Japanese to assault by land? And as a follow up, is Singapore on an island or a peninsula?
