Spl02: Noob-Party

singapore is an island IIRC.

as for the british thing, i have no idea.

Oh and for your turns, if quotey is done, you play...

15-6=9+15=24

24 turns! Have fun :D

Into the breach rolled the brain cell... (I have it). Quotey, if you were not done, I will cede turns to you next time around. If anyone cares, dinner tonight is vodka, chicken breasts stuffed with fontina cheese and artichoke hearts, brocolli au gratin, and rotini with pesto sauce. I think my last brain cell is dying...

I eagerly await your posting, while enjoying a dinner of roasted chicken, mixed veggies, brown rice, and Jack Daniels.
Yes, we will be eating while fully dressed. ;)

Partial report, I'm into the vodka, the chicken is ready to go in the oven and the water for the pasta is about ready to boil.

Turn 226 - Propose 90g, 2gpt, meditation, (oom), monothesism (doesn't that make your palms hairy?), calender, and Massawa for peace with Zara. No joy. Drop Massawa and Zara agrees. 10 turns of peace. EP's get reallocated. 1 to Joao. zip to everyone else. Start construction, due in 12. The AI are all pleased with Zara (presumably for his war ineptness?) Nix the axe in Shanghai. MM. Start the big bronze guy in Xian. WTH not? Damage done. I hit enter.

Turn 227 - Charley offers construction for machinery and 300. Err, no, but that's a right big set ya got for asking. Wanna negotiate? Stop rubbing your chest, you are not Boudica! (watch the animation carefully sometime). Zara's also got a big set as he demands machinery. At least he doesn't rub his chest as we negotiate. Starve Xian a little to speed up Colossus. Whip CH in Shanghai.

Turn 229 - Zara completes the AP! Christian no less. WTH did that come from?

Turn 230 - Whip CH in Gzhou, aquaduct in Shanghai.

Turn 231 - Gzhou starts a forge. Chengdo starts a monument.

232 - whip the monument in Chengdo

233 - OMG. Joao offers construction for meditiation. and 100. ok. chengdu starts the combat settler. Start CS. Charley and Zara know machinery. Buy feud from Joao for macinery and 195. Reduce research to 40% (+5gpt) Xian whips Colossus.

I will try to finish to tonight, but most likely it will be tomorrow.

I don extra clothes to avoid burns while cooking.

[Off Topic]
Why are we talking about Brit pointing guns wrong way in WW2? But anyway, being the resident Singaporean here, yes, Singapore is an island, and yes, the British, when they colonized Singapore, expected the threat to come from the sea from the south (so they deploy big artilleries along the southern coast and islands, and point the barrel towards the sea). That was way before WWII though. When WWII started, they still thought the Japs would come from the south, but they were unpleasantly surprised by Japs riding on bikes from the north through Malaysia Penisula.

But I think even if the cannons were pointing north, it wouldn't have saved Singapore. Delay it, probably. Cause heavier casualty, most likely. BUt avoid the inevitable? No way. They were stretched too thin.
[/off topic]

Why are we building the Colossus? We have a total of like 4 sea tiles in our vast empire, I think.

Re singapore, I was reading a book and had questions if it was accurate...

The Colossus build was almost certainly :smoke:, but I remain hopelessly optimistic it will pay off when we really get serious about war and start taking coastal cities. yes, virigina, we have a big bronze guy standing in the ocean.

The rest of the story:

235 - whip CH in Nanjing. Xian starts an illegible something

238- Charley captures the NW barb city. Warrior starts trekkin home. Drop research to 30%

240 - trade feud to Bull for Theo. Joao is cranking CS. S***.

242 - trade Charles cows for fish.

243 - I rub my chest and Joao gives us HBR for nuttin. He also agrees to 2 gpt for cows as well as 2 more gpt for rice. research back up to 50% at +2gpt.

245 - silver rush near beijing. Stop. It is 1000AD. We've failed. :joke: In my solo games, I usually consider the game a failure if I don't have maces by 1000AD. I have this shield (hammers for the younger players) fetish which hampers me. I whipped pretty hard and we need to get our pop up. There are some cats on the way to rally point Zara. We need to get some defense into Gzhou. LB's? Joao has jumbos running around and will soon have maces. We need more cities. We need pikes to counter the hefalumps. We really need to take the AP and spread Christianity. We should (within the next three sets) have a discussion about civs. We should also soon declare on Zara (5-15 turns away). I didn't get the war set up as nicely as I would have liked and we prolly need some more set up turns, but we should be good to go soon. The economy should recover as the population grows. Placate Joao at all costs. The combat settler slowed us down, but I really want a city SE of the gold.

In other news, Buckwheat is still dead (yes I'm really old; bonus to whomever can give the name of the actor who played Buckwheat), chicken stuffed with artichoke hearts and fontina is really good, and vodka is best served out of the freezer and mixed with ice although JD reserve has its place.

No pix. Not much changed. Mr. Bull settled a city that I think we should keep. Poor record keeping and computer illiteracy forbade a screenie. My bad for no screenie. Someone will fix this.

If you look carefully, there may be a small stack ready to assault Massawa when prudent.

Bottom line, we need more cities and markets. We can be rude to Charley, but not Joao. Engineering should be high on the priority list. More war with Zara soon. I really don't want Zara as a vassal.

Looks like we didn't do really well on the Machinery slingshot. At least we showed it could be done.

NOTE: I play sloppy when it's war time... :p (ie: build to much units and lose all possible infrastructure... i'll control myself this round)

Turn 0: Didn't see anyone mention the culture bomb in leira...
Turn 3: Apolistic elections. either vote for zara or abstain. i abstain.
Turn 4: Zara wins the elections.
Turn 8:
Founded Huangdu
Huangdufounded.png

Zara also managed to plant two forcing the two cho-ku-nus back to our homeland. Next turn we'll declare.
Fasilghebbiothercity.png

Turn 9: We declare and grab a worker.
Turn 12:
Massawa:
Massawa.png

also in this turnset, there was the BATTLE OF LISBON!!!!
No, we're not at war with portugal. We just lost our exploring warrior to an exploring Ethiopian axemen that just happened to be in lisbon...
Turn 13:GP born in Beijing, i suggest settle or golden age. I'll leave it for the group to decide.
Turn 15:
Of course, Zara plants one:
Zeila.png

We take it of course
And the big one of the round. Thanks to countless Sui-pults we get the city.
thankstomanysui-pults.png

Keeped of course.

NOTE: We have a GP in Beijing.
We have a stack outside of the Conficist holy city. although injured, a C-K-N is coming there to take out the city.
I refocus some ep points on zara. we don't even have enough to see his demopgraphics!

Some more pics:
Yap Portugal is going cultural.

Nice, we took/razed quite a few cities.

Morred, you're up!

BTW TLO, you posted the wrong save I think. Either way, your save and Admiral's save have the same name.

I don't think he's necessarily going cultural. I haven't seen many AIs do cultural vicctory without their capital as an LC. I don't think the AI is smart enough to choose the most optimal sites. No, I think he's just bombed Guimares and Leira for the fun of it. Oh, and Leira?

Quotey said:
Did Joao culture bomb Leira? Bloody hell. And you know what happens when I zoom in to check buildings.....

:bump: I think the got it period is way pass ...

looked at the save, some minor comments:

- we have the colossus and yet is working on a whopping ZERO of coastal tiles :crazyeye: Perhaps some lighthouse is needed in coastal cities

- Askum is slated to build the market, but there is ZERO cottages. A barracks/temple/colossum might be better.

- We need more sieges. A lot more.

Well, it's been 24 hours. I'll give Morred some more time, but dawn is up if Morred fails to respond.

edit: xpost w/ GreyFox...

I'm heading out on a business trip, but hopefully will have some good internet access.
I'll wait until tonight and if no one has grabbed it, I'll play.

This is my "got it".

So, the plan is to continue the war, check/adjust tiles around the Colossus, and investigate build at Askum.

Any further ideas regarding the GP?
