DaftNES 2: Throne of Destiny

OK its 4:00 AM here and Im going offline, to sleep. Thanks for the orders recieved so far: Oryx, Gallica, Daran League, Rytarria, Germanica, Rove, Videssos, and the Asturian League (edit: and Awahan and Tanyis!)

I'll start work on the update tommorrow, but wont have chance to get online again and recieve any late until about 10:00 PM GMT (which is 5 hours ahead of US EST, I think).

Well it was basically the way I see it too, except it seems you exagerrated it a little to try to discourage Fuschia :) And the part about 'Trade with Kzame will die off in the upcoming years' seems to suggest that some third party will be conquering them, which is not a certainty!

Daft I sent mine too.

Thank you for your kind response. While we aren't gravely insulted by the actions of the Asturians, who we still view as allies, we remain moderately annoyed at being excluded from the Mediterranean Coalition.

Hopefully at some later date, Antalya will be viewed as she truly is: A benefactor and non-aggressive friend to Europe.

{OOC: Well he's insulting and agrivating me ;)}

In the interests of preserving peace and stability in Eastern Europe and to continue to better the relationship between our nations, I offer you an alliance. The alliance, should you choose to accept, will be a mutual protection alliance: if either of us is attacked, the other will help, a relatively large decrease in import taxes of goods between our nations: to increase trade between our nations and aid both our economies, plus anything else you might like to add. What do you think?

We will never join an alliance with such heathens.

I see, very well. I had hoped we'd both be able to put the past behind us and start afresh. But, no, if you are unable to forgive us of past grievances, then I guess we'll both have to find other ways of stabilizing East Europe.

One Mere Game

“The First Taej Empire fell millenniums ago to famine and drought, the Second Taej Empire founded by Taizu stood for 400 years to fall at the hands of Kaelazar the Magnificent; may there never be a Third Taej Empire…” –Private Journal of King Taichang of the Kingdom of Sung

Li Xiutang sat in a pavilion in the courtyard quietly sipping his fine tea as he played weiqi on this early morning day. He observed the pieces on the lined table and could do little but remark in wonder at the skill of his opponent for having stayed alive so long. There were few rules and that has made all the difference since the game’s inception thousands of years ago. There was a limitless possibility of how the game could go; victory one turn could turn to sweeping defeat the other and vice versa. Looking once more at his near-victory, he smiled and looked at his opponent.

“I’m afraid My Grace, you will soon be defeated on the field of battle. Much as your ambitions at court.”

His Grace merely smiled and drinking a glass of iced lemon tea merely smiled with a twinkle in the eye.

“Always so formal dear Uncle, even in the privacy of my own home; I assure you I have no tiny machines capable of recording voice.”

With that, His Grace added his black piece onto the table. The Uncle merely shook his head and laughed, placing his own white piece on the board and sweeping away a great deal of black pieces.

“Nephew, you are too rash and flamboyant; the world is not won over by large and magnificent words, but by slow and sure action. You acted too quickly at court, much as you acted too quickly on this game. Be grateful that death is not an option, unlike your poor pieces.”

“Uncle, you forget that large magnificent words are essential. How else can the masses be moved but with lofty goals and ideals? Pragmatism holds no great motivation.”

That said, His Grace placed one black piece on the board and smiled, a very large smile it was. His Uncle merely gaped at the board, and after a while smacked himself on the forehead.

“Victory from the jaws of defeat…”

“No Uncle, it was never a defeat but a trap, one laid out very well. Just because I am young does not mean I am stupid or naïve. Innocence does not last forever and neither does power.”

“Just because you win one game of weiqi, does not mean you can win the game at court.”

“Who knows Uncle, who knows?”

Confirming orders for Vancuissi League, Tusca, Pegu, Ceinurissian Aonsaise and Antalya. Thankyou!!! They were technically late, but I didn't get much done today, so it should be OK. I may have some feeback when I've read them all properly.

edit: alex, great story! (I had this page open for half an hour while i did stuff, so i didn't see it at first)

Ah, thats right of course. I was confused by our PM discussion that followed, for some reason I got the impression you might be sending new orders.

Arla Ratzya!

May I ask what this means? It sounds cool anyway :)

OOC: I just sent orders :p

What about the UE's orders? :(

OOC: He sent a PM acknowledging them.

"Arla" is like the French "Vive" as in "Vive la France!" Ratzya is fairly close to "Rational Will".

Notes and Conversations

"Third day of the month. Blessed with a crescent moon, we held a debate on the ideals of the First Mycenaean School among the men. Work on the Revelation of Ivan has begun. Basilevs wants mosaics, and so we live to serve. Metalsmiths have been working nights as well...pouring molds. Golden Conclave indeed. The tile layers' riot was not good for the Guild of Artisans, we can only hope the archways are completed before the sculptors join them in the gutters. *illegible* paper shortage. Bright as always, good night."

-Architect's diary, Agre

"Sixth day, seventh month. Off Acratiri. Maneuvers completed without incident. After review, captured pirate hulk stripped of usable timber, new gunnery tactics tested. Mod'rate success, captain pleased. Varyn's toe broken between rounds. Recovery likely."

-First Officer's log, naval galleon Herakleia

"Brilliant sun! The streets of Panga are paved in a fascinating rose-colored stone, and the brilliant crystal gates of the Ri-Panga both astonish and direct attention to a powerful, peaceful democracy, a pride of Razynist thought. In a comparison of mechanical bridge systems, it appears that the raised bridges over the river are completely automated, with an ingenious steam-powered counterweight system! The bridges over the Grand Canal in noble Sarai use a similar system, but not so ingeniously applied. Enclosed are my diagrams that your Eminences will find truly fascinating."

-Conclave emissary and amateur scientist, letter

"Eighth month, incoming shipments: Fine jade pendants, necklaces and rare turquoise rings, recently arrived from Ning Po. Suggested price, 3v2k, with deviations of 1v. From Tandak, bronze and copper ear-pieces and bracelets/armlets, assorted lesser gemstones throughout. Suggested price, 2v, or resale in bulk. Various, perfumes and jeweled silks, al-Hani, rare items. Advance resale recommended, to avoid direct import duties. Small quantity of silverwork from Talburg, fine quality charms and sapphire/emerald rings. No less than 6v, individual items potential for 10v.

For the Guild's personal use, various embroidered tapestries acquired in Etienarde. My personal expense comes to 43v, but the highest quality is assured, and the requested scenes duly commissioned."

-Mercantile guild, shipping factor dispatch

"I note with displeasure your recent directives regarding Arai port. Frankly, there is no money, and the quantity of labor required would take the entire population of a small Antalyan province, or indeed the enslaved population of a small nation. Accomodating customs traffic at the Amber Port alone requires the majority of my resources, given the end of Mediterranean hostilities. Of course, the city council has already accused me of treason, and thus I sincerely hope the Kuzma assists."

"Your complaint has been received by the Kuzma. Arai port now has additional funding, and an additional governor. Duties relieved."

-Exchange of letters, provincial/upper imperial bureaucratic level

What about the UE's orders?

Ah, yes I got them yesterday before I went to bed, so didn't mention them above. I've also got alex994's orders now :)

It is unreasonalble to ask us to convert to Aeonism state religion when the vast majority of Yssians are Ultimists. We accept the practise of all religions within our borders so long as the worshippers of said religion are not extremists or seek to create conlict and tension between them and other religions present within our borders. You are free to send Aeonist missionaries to our towns as long as they don't make any trouble or violate any of the rules above. If they attempt to stir up religious tensions, they will be arrested. I hope you will agree.
