Final Fantasy Mod Progress Thread, Part III

well, after I finish my current project (still needs some rendering and after-rendering stuff like palette and sounds done), I'll start making it

Somehow, I was under the impression that a Blitzball player unit was already made.. but then I went trough the library..

I`ve gone nuts..
I thought we had one too :hmm:
yeah well, I didn't know, and I wanted one (for some personal stuff, and some friends wanted to see one too)

I searched but nothing...
I think it must`ve been one of Hikaro`s requests, and our civ-damaged and FF-mod hungry minds transformed it into a finished unit..
Probably ;).
"There really was a blitzball player unit.

But it was being used for the minions at Area 51 to steganographically receive marching orders from their evil reptilian overlords in the NWO. Fortunately for all of us, valiant Chinese computer scientists ("ninja skills, wizard skills...") learned of the danger and, in a precisely timed surgical strike into the virtuality, removed the malignant mcguffin. In order to keep the baddies from knowing the jig was up a combination of a certain frequency of flicker at a particular wavelength of light and a certain auditory pattern played just beyond the human range of hearing hypnotized each of us at our next visit to CFC into misremembering.

Why else would a keyboard cowboy of such consummate skill aim our direction?" #6 in Episode 15.

Actually, I've never requested a Blitzball player, although I HAVE requested a Hypello worker (as flavor for al bhed and yevon), and I DID make two versions of a blitzball stadium (the first version was also the very first thing I ever made in bryce, and therefore, not very good in quality), the Zanarkand dome (with Spacer_One's help), and a blitzball tech to go with them... Who knows, I may add the blitzball player as some kind of cheap scout unit that all civs can build when you research the blitzball tech...

hey hikaro, cant wait to finally see the beta (and the finished product within our lifetimes? :p)...im not much help (read: none) as far as graphics goes, but i know a whole lot, way too much in fact, about VII, VIII, and X, if you need any help with icons, information, or anything else

great work so far though, keep it up!

Well, the civilopedia could use a bit of work... There are units that still have the original C3C unit info entries, the governements need updating (ALL of them), since I've changed them around so many times, but most importantly, I've only done ONE civilization's entry, thus far... That one was the RACE_Americans (AVALANCHE)....

I'll post a copy of my latest Civilopedia.txt tomorrow (after I've added the last of the UU placeholders, that is), along with a list of which default civs I replaced with what FF civ (i.e. RACE_Romans = Lindblum, RACE_Greeks = Jeuno, RACE_Egyptians = Al Bhed, etc)...

Hell, here the list is right now:

RACE_Romans = Lindblum
RACE_Egyptians = Al Bhed
RACE_Greeks = Jeuno
RACE_Babylon = Sassoon
RACE_Germans = Shinra Corporation
RACE_Russian = Vector Empire
RACE_Chinese = Forbidden Land
RACE_American = AVALANCHE
RACE_Japanese = Fynn Alliance
RACE_French = Tycoon
RACE_Indian = Aht Urhgan
RACE_Persian = Bervenia
RACE_Aztecs = Galbadia
RACE_Zulu = Alfitiria
RACE_Iroquois = Garden
RACE_English = Returners
RACE_Mongols = Orcish Horde
RACE_Spanish = Windhurst
RACE_Vikings = Bastok
RACE_Ottomans = Dwarf Kingdom
RACE_Celts = Baron
RACE_Arabs = Yevon
RACE_Carthaginains = Dalmasca
RACE_Koreans = Light Warriors
RACE_Sumeria = Paramekian Empire
RACE_Hatti = Dark Warriors
RACE_Dutch = Lesalia
RACE_Portugal = San d'Oria
RACE_Byzantines = Alexandria
RACE_Incans = Esthar
RACE_Mayans = Archadian Empire

alright, well if im not hungover tomorrow (college, give me a break) ill most certainly get started on that stuff, at least for my areas of expertise (FF VII was kind of what got me started on final fantasy, so i know damn near every facet of the game AND the lore in regards to it)

yeah, yeah...gimme a break, i was just a kid then

i gotta say though, its certainly the most accessible out of the ones that i've played, and i still cant get enough of the plot of it...but its time for me to sleep now

Ah...another one of those young whippersnappers that started off by playing VII. :old:

I started of with FF7 too, and even to this day I consider one of my best games. :)

HEY!! I resemble that remark.... The main reason that FF VII was the first that I played was that it was the first one to be released for the PC... When I was growing up, my parents wouldn't allow my brother or I to own any kind of console, because "those things aren't good for anything but wasting time on stupid video games." We were allowed to have computers, since we could actully use them for art work, homework and wasting time on not-so-stupid video games (I've always been into RTS games, ever since the original Warcraft and C&C).

When I joined the navy, I finally was able to buy a laptop capable of running FF VII PC (I wanted to try it out when the PC version was first released in 1998, but my Cyrix 120 MHz PC with 8 MB of ram couldn't run it.. I'd have needed at least another 8 MB of ram), and for the next few weeks, spent much of my free time playing VII.... Ironically, when I first played FF VII PC, I was the same age as Cloud. :lol:

And while the comment about the civilopedia is a bit of an understatement, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the understatement of the century.... I DO have most of the techs, buildings, wonders, small wonders and units with the correct entries... Everything else, of course, is pretty much a mess.

@Chris85: You're 22? Also, give me SOME credit here... Why do you think it's taken me almost 4 years to get this point? If all I was worried about was graphics, gameplay, units and sounds, I'd have probably been done by now....

Minime: Here's ye olde civilopedia file.

BTW, I've been playing as Galbadia, and I noticed something... Theres a place in Galbadia (or at least galbadian territory in the original game) called "Yorn Mountains." The thing is, I've learned recently how in modern English, the letter "y" is used to represent the letter thorn (Þ), especially in the stock phrase "ye olde."

So what I was thinking was that the mountains may have been supposed to be called the Þorn Mountains, in which case the name would be the same as the letter that starts it (personally, I wouldn't put it past the guys at Square-Enix to slip something like that in on the sly).....

anyways, here's the file:

just so i don't make any serious errors in spelling judgement (kinda like Þorn Mountains) are there any specific spelling rules that you want me to adhere to? for example -- Aerith instead of Aeris, or Makou instead of Mako

edit: oh and a list of what exactly i need to change as far as units go...like i see an entry for the Man-O-War, is that getting taken out all together, or just changed to an FF related unit?

Yeah the "Th" symbol evolved from Þ to a 'y'-ish symbol over time, so it may well be Thorn Mountains! Sure, put it in as a sort of Easter Egg anyways!

If you haven't noticed I've been hanging around here for well over 6 years and the Star Wars Mod isn't exactly done yet. :mischief:

I've noticed from time to time that they like to do stuff like that.

By the time they finish that monster Civilization 15 will have came out. :p
