NCSG1-Suryavarman II!

Well, if we're agreed, I will play now.

Hmm, I forgot this is Pangaea, so despite all the water in our start, we are not likely to have enough to make Colossus worth the hammers. Your right that CoL is a better plan for the Oracle in this situation. That also gives us a missionary to immediately spread it to whichever neighbor we arent planning to kill, heh.

Play on Krick! We should be just fine.

I can't get over those lakes! Is this going to be more of your crazy looking maps Krick?

With the moved warrior and the cows - man I love cows, its like a turbo farm - I reckon on the hill is ok. Lose some hammers but then whats the whip for?!!

The main down side to moving I reckon is the lose of the first turn you still get a 2 hammer tile for the exp hammers on workers bonous, and you get a 2F2C tile as well.

So in place and moving seem ok. If this is the case then settle in place so you don't lose the first turn!

Cows.... ;)

And thus begins the epic tale of the Khmer!

After a long discussion, I move the settler to the hill and found:
Yasod.jpg

Yasodharapura!

And during the next 10 turns, I begin a warrior, my scout faces an ugly bear, wins triumphantly, and promptly discovers a village that gives him exp! I put the points in Woodsman.

Meanwhile, our scientists discover fishing, and Yasod----- begins a workboat, for we must have our tastly clams! We then begin uncovering the secrets of Bronze Working.

We soon meet our old friend from Egyptland, Willem. And his land is tantalizingly close...

After more exploration, our scout meets a warrior from China, serving Qin Shi Huang.

I haven't found his land yet, but he's close.
And concluding this chapter, we glance at the known world. . .

And our glorious Capital:

Coolio! Errr... I mean "Got it"

I'm free to play now, but I will wait a little while just incase anyone wants to pipe in with any comments.

Okay just had quick peek at the save, I'll get us a worker out after the workboat/warrior is done. I've just been thinking wouldn't it be funny if copper poped up right under our city, we could go rush Willy right away!!! I'm just fed up with him after the last NC game we played. He just annoys me at the mo, so I'm thinking he should go fairly early... but plenty of time for that later.

I think I'll play now, it's getting late here in the U.K.

Will post shortly.

The hill beside the Marble looks good. I'm a little concerned about the complete lack of food resources, but if we throw up a lighthouse quick (we can do that fresh water only right?), we should be ok.

If possible, could we get the grid and resource overlays for the screenshots?

A grid with resources would be a great help for an early dotmap Groo, if you could get that during your set we can have some good discussion on it.
I'm a bit skeptical about the plains hill/marble city. I don't think we'll have enough food for it to be much more resource grabber. Down by that river 2E 1S of the gold would have the river, gold, and grassland sheep.
The map is really food poor :(

Okay here we go! The coninuing adventures of our pal Khmer, :D

Turn 21

Scout continues nosing around in the north, city is still building a workboat, which has another 4 turns

Turn 24

Popped a hut, please be a tech, please be a tech :please: ... 81 gold, not bad.

Turn 25

Found Kublai he's to our north, lucky fellow has gold close to his capital.

Groo_NCSG1_101.jpg

Workboat is in, we finish off the warrior, I adjust it so city grows on the same turn as the warrior finishes.

Groo_NCSG1_102.jpg

Turn 27

Scout survives a lion attack, but he needs to rest up.

Turn 28

Bronze working is in and...

Groo_NCSG1_103.jpg

No copper in the BFC :( but there is one inbetween us and will and one to our south in the tundra.

I go for animal husbandry next so we can get those cows online when the worker finishes.

Turn 30

Meet another AI, Ragnar. His scout came from the West. Note, he's the founder of buddism

Groo_NCSG1_104.jpg

Turn 32

Scout got attacked again. Grrrr... survives, but needs to rest.
Warrior is in (left him fortified in the city), we start on a worker which will take 13 turns.

Turn 37

Another turn another AI, Julius this time and he founded hinduism

Groo_NCSG1_105.jpg

And check out what he has close by! 3 gems!

Groo_NCSG1_106.jpg

Turn 40

Okay worker will finish in 5, A.Husb is finished in 2, Looks like we might be a bit boxed in here if all the AI settle in our direction although the jungle should hold back Kublai and julius. Ragnar must be some where further west of willem.

Didn't do too well with the scouting, darn animals kept slowing me down.

couple of pics of the world so far.

Locations of our future victims!

Groo_NCSG1_107.jpg

And resources.

Nice one guys. Without checking ther save yet - will do it later - I'm thinking settle 1SW of the bronze. Also that big group of suger and corn in the north looks taisty as commerce city a does rice/dye/sugar. We'd need IW and a load of workers to make them viable.
Its a shame about the big deset right next door. Thats probaly about two or three city sites not availible for us early on.

@ Schwartz
Could you scout around behind Willem to see what his hinterland is like?

I'm pretty intersted in the map as I want to see what this inlet we're looks like!

Got it, will play tomorrow. I'm going to put up a dotmap tonight to get your thoughts before I settle anything.
I'm thinking warrior -> settler to begin my turnset.

opps! I've just noticed I missed a couple of resources in the resource map image. There is a deer and silver just below the southern copper. Sorry guys!

Okay here is a more complete resource map, I've also put markers for were our rivals are.

Groo_NCSG1_109.jpg

I think our priorities for first settler might have to be to claim the copper near willem, but chances are he may get there first, the copper in the south although in the tundra does have some nice resources around it but if we claim the one by will then we deprive him of it. Most of the decent food seems to be in the jungle. That big patch of is desert is most definatley annoying! I'm glad we settled on the hill now otherwise those cows would have been wasted!

Looking at the map, any thoughts as to what the best type of economy myight be here?

Not a food based one :mischief:
Probably some sort of hybrid. This map is extremely average. Looks food poor, and other than the capital, sort of hammer poor as well.
Do we have any early wonder targets or do we want to rush Willem?

I did a dot map. I'll try to load it up later. I'd say that we should settle 1SW of the western copper and then rush Willem. This probably means avoiding wonders for now. If we want an early one then maybe GLib for the free scientists. Rush=Hammers wonders would divert from this. Third city should maybe in all those sugars to block Julius.

I concur with holding off on the wonders for the time bieng (like Grandad said, maybe until the Glib) usless someone has a particular economic plan in mind, it's definatley worth focusing on going for willem, looking at the lands around us. Hopefully willie has a nice food rich capital, I'm sure he won't mind lending it to us for a GP farm. :mischief:

If we can take out willie followed by settling in the nice jungle spots to our north it would give us a nice amount of land as an initial platform for our empire.

I'm regretting not maybe exploring a bit more to the north east around that coastline above our capital. for all we now there could be lushous, fertile land over there and we'll never know!
