Paradigm Shift

bad luck with RNG but still, you should always wait for overwhelming numbers (i thought you would have learned that from the previous round

Good point tycoonist.

Anyway, my NEXT army that I build wil be the one with the overwhelming number of units ;)

As soon as I switch to theocracy it will be units from then on. I can't see there being any more problems with this game.

Pacal will be toast as soon as I get enough trebs and maces (with knights following on later), Izzy will be gone when I have cossacks.

I'll proably need to take a city or 2 on the other continent or else find an Island that hasn't been settled for the win.

I'm guessing 1800ish for the victory, but am always bad at those kind of estimates ;)

Right, I am going to update the links to round 8 in the first post, lurk for a bit, and then get cracking on Cathy's new Model Army under the theocratic regime of Hinduism I think.

I'll probably stop when I have enough troops to DoW on Pacal, unless he beats me to it by declaring himself, but he will have to get open borders with Izzy frst I think to do that ;)

A secondary goal for reound 9 will be to get the circumnavigation bonus and see who the peeps on the other continent are.

Well I guess you had no option to Vassel mansa in that case, but atleast Cathy is now offically becoming a dominatrix. I sure mansa half enjoyed being dominated really!

I'm eager to see who else is out there! Looking forward to the next round.

Keep it up!

:)

I think the beer must have affected your jugdement a little, next round try having more.lol.

I have neglected my shadow game for a while in favour of BOTM 4.You have inspired me to return to Cathy's game to try and claim our continent, although i too have taken a vassel with two cities. Not sure this was a good idea thou'.I am about to declare on the last civ on our continent and have also discovered "the others" on the lost island.

Btw,what victory are you going for in the next game with Cathy ?

Next game, totally different, Cathy Queen of Culture I think.

I have just discovered the other civs on the other continent and have found some interesting large islands which may mean I can just do a settler spam for the win.

Re: civs on other continent, I see now why so many Great Generals have been born there ;) Just about to get the circumnavigation bonus.

Pacal has no defences to speak of at the moment, this should be easy from now on.

I played up to 1390AD anyway, I may post a report or I may drink more beer and do some conquering, who knows ;)

Much of what you are doing here, Paradigm Shifter is very reminiscent of how many of my games go. This is actually part of the problem of playing at noble level, that it is actually very forgiving of inefficient gameplay. Certain tactics which are a good idea on Noble, become fatal when applied to higher levels.

That is why this is a good thread, because it will highlight the specific tactics that do an don't work at Prince level in particular.

The one that stands out a mile so far is that you/we need to be much more discerning in what we choose to build in each city. At Noble, you can build any old thing in every city and you'll be fine. At this level, we can see that that starts to become a problem when, for example, you don't have enough troops for the war you are waging.

Hey, it's Prince level, in case people are wondering!

Everything will work out fine ;)

I feel that if I were playing at Monarch it might have gone differently though ;)

I'm not trying to build everything I can, courthouses, universities and that's it for a domination win.

Next game, culture, it will be very different ;)

At the very least, I can show people you can make mistakes at Prince and still win ;)

Well, at least you know I am not a quitter or a save/reloader (I thought about it, yes).

Dominatrix Cathy - round 9 (to 1390AD)

Just a case of rebuilding my army this round, getting enough to tonk Pacal.

Optics is in, next stop liberalism for astronomy as free tech. Galleons will make my invasion of Pacal a bit quicker, plus it will be needed to go to the other continent.

Maces are first priority in case Pacal gets any daft ideas.

Although I am after the circumnavigation bonus too, so build a few caravels. I also get some triremes back to my cultural borders so I can upgrade them to caravels too.

It only costs 50 pence to upgrade a trireme to a caravan.

I whip all the universties I need for Oxford now that Moscow is 1 turn away from finishing its university.

So next turn I can start on Oxford straight away. I want to waste as little time on buildings as possible now. When Oxford is built I will switch to caste system rather than slavery, speeding up research under representation. If I get a great scientist I can lightbulb printing press to save turns on the way to rifling/military tradition which should be all I need to finish off this continent. I may just tech towards steel for cannons as well. I can't see much need to tech any further than that though.

Build another caravel. Hopefully I can sink all of Pacals navy when I decide to attack.

But maces are still the #1 priority.

Anywhere that doesn't have a barracks and has so so production gets one too.

Although fast growing cities might get some needed health buildings as well.

Djenne wants to join the Malinese empire, which is a bit weird since it is not under any cultural pressure. I don't care whether Mansa likes me any more, he is teching too slowly now.

I had workers chopping forests near Moscow to build Oxford as quick as possible, remember Moscow has the Heroic Epic as well so after this build I just want to build troops here.

Another trireme is upgraded

And another...

Dominatrix Cathy - round 9 (to 1390AD) part 2

I'm about to change civics to theocracy, so any units that would complete before Oxford is built queue up another unit.

I also get a random event, some extra research for Divine Right, which I probably wont bother with, or extra culture for a monastery in Moscow, which is useless too. I pick the research bonus.

Someone builds Notre Dame.

Last chance to whip buildings before I switch to caste system.

I'll probably want some spies as well, I will build them in cities which haven't got barracks.

Oxford ias done, time to switch civics.

And I get another nice event, all my cities which haven't yet got hinduism get it for free ;)

Moscow gets to work building troops now. My reseach here is pretty healthy now after Oxford.

Maces and trebs get built.

First to liberalism, pick astronomy as my free tech.

My exploring caravel finds the other continent.

He's pretty backwards though, he hasn't even got alphabet lol.

More trebs...

And a stable, I am teching guilds now so want some knights. They will also be handy for cossacks later.

Another barracks.

Dominatrix Cathy - round 9 (to 1390AD) part 3

Timbuktu could do with a little happiness boost.

Another caravek finds an interesting Island, looks uninhabited. If I conquer my own continent I might just be able to settle these lands to save me invading backwards Shaka.

I'd better get a quick chariot out before I can't build them anymore when I reseacrh guilds. Next great general will make this a medic.

Start building some galleons, will add the element of surprise to my attack on Pacal.

More maces...

Mansa wants open borders, why not.

Shaka is hopelessly backwards, he even has archers...

Pacal doesn't look tooo worried either.

I finish guilds, banking next. I can switch to merdcantilism for a free specialist which has nice synergy with caste system.

Start building knights now as well, in cities with stables.

This looks like another uninhabited island.

None of Pacal's cities look well defended. He is teching guilds though, so I'll need some pikes.

My workers have been building workshops too since they get a hammer bonus under caste system, and with guilds.

More happiness buildings for Timbuktu.

Pacal build a wonder, no use to me now I have all the religious civics available.

Dominatrix Cathy - round 9 (to 1390AD) part 4

Finally meet the last AI, I can see why great generals have been born on their continent now.

Full diplo situation

Julius is hopelessly backwards as well

Shaka has the best resources available to trade for, the health is very welcome.

GP farm was the most health challenged, its pretty healthy now.

Banking is in, I may as well get the free Great Merchant for economics before going down the rifling/military tradition route, I think. Then I will have alot of cash to upgrade maces to rifles.

St. Pete's finally gets a lighthouse

And that was basically it for this round. I just need to do a bit more prepping and get my army in place to take out Pacal.

Here's the save...

Get this wars started I say.
To hit domination, you might want to station some stacks of galleons near shaka/JC borders, raze their coastal cities and resettle them. I think this will be quickest. You won't even really need rifles to do so, they don't even have lbows or maces so it'll be easy.
This game now merely is a mob up.

This is because Mali still has some cultural influence in that city.

side-note:
Spoiler :
I see you use photobucket to upload your pictures. Could you please resize them to 800 * 600 (15" screen) so those who have a resolution of 1024 *768 (like me :p) see the whole screenshot at once?

Since it was a dull round last one, I played on up to 1530AD.

I went after Pacal instead of going intercontinental (for now anyway).

I don't know how to resize the images, if it is complicated I'm not going to do it I'm afraid. It already takes long enough to upload them and do the report.

Spoiler :
Get a bigger monitor ;) Or change the size of the webpage. It looks OK if you resize the page to 75%, text is still readable for me anyway.

The game is definitely in the bag anyway, 7 turns till rifling then nationalism and military tradition.

I may as well take on Izzy to provide a bit of entertainment for the readers at the end.

Well played Paradigm,

I'm finding your thread very useful! Thanks for going into so much detail with this walkthrough. :)

I do have a couple questions for you,

Do you usually wait this long before you switch to caste? I always find it too tempting to switch early. It seems that you wait until you have built your main infastructure.

I'm not great at using the whip and it's something I want to learn to do better. In the round gone you were whipping cities to get uni's up. One city you whipped from Size 7 to size 4! Is this the normal way to whip? I never whip to that extreme.

Again thanks for taking the time to write this up.

:)

Dominatrix Cathy - round 10 (to 1530AD)

I've been building troops steadily for a while, so lets have a look at the power graph.

Pretty good.

I'm about to get a Great Merchant as well, the best place to send them on a trade mission is the Temple of Artemis city. Who built that?

Pacal did, downer. I guess I'll just send him to Izzy's capital.

Julius isn't looking very clever either.

The island in the ocean looks pretty big. I think if I settle these and take over mycontinent, that should be enough.

Military advisor, showing great general points.

This is where I am assembling my offensive stack.

I'm going to workshop up this city. I don't need much more tech, production will be king from now on.

More moaning citizens... this pop up is really annoying.

Building workshops here as well.

I win the circumnavigation race. (EDIT: And someone builds the Statue of Zeus, so that means it is probably JC or Shaka, which is nice, I wouldn't want Izzy or Pacal building it).

Mansa wants to do this deal, but I'd rather not. When I declare war hopefully he will lose a few cities or, even better, get eliminated ;) Why would I want more dye anyway? I have some already...

There's a goody hut on the big island too. I already have astronomy though and that is the best tech you can get from a hut.

Reinforcements arrive by boat too.

I get a really good event, I get +3 health and a free scientist in Moscow, which also has the Great Library and Oxford!

@ paradigm: you use bulk uploader I guess. There is, on the very bottom of the page, under stem#3 a writing that says: max image size: [your image size] (optionns). Click on "options" and you can choose your image size. Then all your pics are automatically resized, whenever you upload a pic, until you change it again.

edit: can't buy a bigger monitor, using a laptop...

edit2: thank you very much ;)
