Nobles Club III - Kulai Khan

I finally got a chance to play! I'll try to get a report up today.

Checkpoint 4: 1510AD - Yer I'm skipping a checkpoint again, but WTH. New! Improved! Report Version! Buy While Stocks Last!
Spoiler :

I think I'm still on track for a diplo win, but am frustratingly short of being nominated for the AP vote - let alone winning it. I can adopt everyones favorite civic, execept Victoria, whos just been DoW by Ragnar. Think I'll pile in and ask Toku to join in - get this hes, popular and likes other people too! The pop should come in handy as will the diplo + with the AIs.

I'm teching well, and trading and stealing a few techs too. Economys ok but still need to expand on to those crazy islands. Guess which wonder I got with MC - late as well. Won Lib and took RP! Got a GS just before starting lib and bulbed him on PP and did the last 4 turns myself. I wanted him to bulb Lib, but he didn't like the idea, nor the one about 5 turns later. bah!

Interesting times. Oh yer look out for a stupid mistake. Where's Wally style. He's there somewhere.....

Picture time.

Goodnight Mr Wang.
NCKahn.jpg

Ragnar DoW on Freddy so I pile in and kill him before Ragnar can get his cities!

NCKahn5.jpg

Cheeky monkey!
NCKahn6.jpg

Finally found Iron - Keshics meant I could wait till my economy was ready!
NCKahn9.jpg

Take a barb city and keep it. Its a nice commerce site - lots of food out here in the islands - maybe Sids if it goes that far - Space or UN.
NCKahn10.jpg

Steal some tech.
NCKahn11.jpg

NCKahn12.jpg

NCKahn13.jpg

Nuff said.

Found a city....
NCKahn15.jpg

.... and another. Notice the lines I drew? Counting sea tiles etc. Morai maybe?
NCKahn16.jpg

We say yes. Not sure why. I guess mainly the diplo hit would be to much.
NCKahn17.jpg

We say no. Justin can bog off. With Toku and Ragnar on side who cares what he thinks. All he does in the AP is try for the diplo win. Which does
work! Ummm...
NCKahn18.jpg

Very late mids!
NCKahn19.jpg

One last city for the moment.
NCKahn21.jpg

Graphs etc are here,

The save.

@grandad1982

A subtle hint:

Vassals are forced to vote for you in AP if they are not candidates ;) No need for hunkie junkie favorite civics stuff, just good ol'AI hammering :p

@ Rolo

Spoiler :

Yer thats true. I was looking for a more peacefull game to conrast other peoples games! Well peacefullish. mwhahaha....

I guessed I'd probably Vasselise Vic in a war anyway. When I get the report up you'll see the big buddist lovein we got going on with Justin at the Helm! Got to say its quite a fun game and my army has barely flexed it muscle yet! Only a couple of turns to rifling.....

Also I'm loving the map! Its pretty interesting with all those islands to our west. I've just started to realise how good they are and I'm starting to settle them. How close to what the RNG gave you is this map?

Checkpoint 4 cont.
Spoiler :

Cities. I tweaked them after this screen was taken. Doh!
NCKahn22.jpg

Glance. If you look closely the obscured numbers are, top to bottom +13 and +11. I think.

WTH happened to Ragnars culture? Did he bomb a Great Artist?
NCKahn27.jpg

Power. Vic took a chunk out of him!
NCKahn28.jpg

Demo. Doing ok here. Will soon have a second decent millitary site, in the iron/jumbo city.
NCKahn26.jpg

Capital. Iron works me thinks! Why change the wonder whoring of a life time?! That sea sure does look shinny! Also popped gold here so lost a hammer, but thats ok for the gold!
NCKahn29.jpg

Forbidden Palace. Wangs old Capital. Oxford with some spy action. Wish I was building this else where in retrospect. Maybe I should change Berlin - my GP farm into an espionage city? and make this pure science? Help!
NCKahn30.jpg

Final look at my empire. I'll place a city down at the end of the road by the fish/fur.

NCKahn32.jpg

Sorry about the long report, but it ws a long set! So can I get a Diplomatic vicory here? I reckon its possible, but I'd love some advice!

@grandad1982
Spoiler :
If you check the settings you'll see why... Pangea with natural shorelines normally produces some decent sized islands and some inland seas/big lakes. it is a nice variation of the ( boring ) oval shaped pangeas ;)

@ rolo
I might play these settings more often. I generally don't like pangea but this is ace!

I really want to try archipelago. With a strong seafaring civ first though. It just seems cool landing an army with ships, and controlling the seas.

I greatly enjoy landing a few transports loaded up with Marines. Even more fun as the Americans, with Navy SEALs. :)

I agree Krick. I think we should play that one with Willy, Ragnar, Jaoa or Hannibal in the very near future.

I got an iteresting situation going on in my game.

Spoiler :

I've played up to about 1650AD, and I'm at war with Queen Vic - miserable old hag!

See built the AP but doesn't control it, has 3 cities left - one is pretty marginal in some desert - and has lost 4 cities to me. Razed 2 and refounded one, others are Cristian holy city and London. Ragnar is at war with her and Toku just made peace. Despite me voting No for stop the war and winning the vote he took peace a few turns later.

Now She really hates me but will capitulate to me, but I don't think I want her. Shes not popular with my 2 main Allies so I want to stay in their good books, but I'd like to avoid her capitulating to anyone else! I'm not sure I have the impertus to take her last cities, and I'd like to leave her as a dilomatic punch bag.

This isn't really a question post, more a little update. That being said, if I bribe Ragnar to peace would she capitulate to him if I take peace too? I don't really know how voluntary vassalage works.

Also will having the highest AP votes mean that during the next election I'll be a candidate, given that I didn't build it?

If all goes well this game might be wrapped up by tomorrow evening! Or not if it goes to UN or space.....

@grandad

Spoiler :
I wouldn't have given in to Ragnar over Education, he has many positives with you you can afford the odd -1 you refused to help us, he'd still be friendly

@ ParadigmShifter

Spoiler :

Your right of course. After the event I thought stupid decision. I keep doing this kind of thing. You pointed out a similar trade in my last - Ramesses - game as well! You'd think I'd learn given thats the point of these games....

The only time I give in to demands grandad is when I am warring with someone else and need to watch my back, or else am trying to make an AI friendly for later bribing.

EDIT: Ramesses game, it wasn't a demand it was just a duff deal IIRC, you could have got alot better value from a nice tech.

EDIT2: This sort of thing becomes a lot more important at monarch+.

@Grandad

Spoiler :
Duff deal currency for fishing + 130 gold, you could have got a lot more mileage from that tech

Yer that was naff too.

As for Monarch+ I don't think I need to worry about that for a few games at least! Of course its always good to break bad habits...

LoL

Just realised why I was finding this game such hard work, I never knew about the Partisans bug and didn't have the supplementry patch. Every city I razed in my game kept producing a bunch of units for my opponent, usually Axes! Only found out about this becuase I was trying to fix my glance screen!

Good luck on your diplo win Gdad.

@Groogaroo

1 You don't need to use Bhruic's patch to have the Glance screen back... it is a minor editing in one of the .py files ( easy to do in notepad ).

2 The partisan units are the draftable ones by that civ. If you pillage the metals and the adversary doesn't have gunpowder yet , you'll get fearsome Warrior partisans

Said that, use Bhruic's patch.... makes the game far better.

I already have Bhruic's, but just downloaded the .py files to replace my existing ones to fix the glance and partisans. I didn't realise that the units were resource dependant, good to know, although I hopefully shouldn't keep getting that event now.

Geeez! wish I'd known about this bug a week ago! would have made a difference in game, for sure!

That particular bug is pretty annoying , but it has some good angles:
- your foe is losing a city and gaining units = more unit maintenance
- If you have a decent SoD and/or have superior units, the partisans are simply GG food ;)

but I sincerily hope that they correct it fully in next patch ( it would require more than Bhruic wants to do with his patch.... ). 4 maces out of a pop 3 city is simply :vomit:

Um, I'm lost here... I don't have the .py files, I couldn't see them in my Bhruic's patch download. I don't have the Glance screen, but what is it about the Partisans thing? I see that relatively often, almost every time I raze something. I can't make up what I should do to fix things from the posts above, also, I don't even know if anything is wrong in the first place with my game.

Partisans in 3.13 are extremely bugged:
- they appear regardless of what civic your oponent is using, while it supposedely should only apear if the owner of the razed city would be in emancipation ( at least that is what the XML code says )
- someone made a dreadful coding and made partisans appear in 35 % of the games in every razed city instead of the supposed all games with 35% chance of a razed city to spawn partisans

For having the Glance screen... I'll let Bhruic speak
It's very easy to add the Glance screen back, all of the code for it still exists. They simply commented out one line to remove the tab.

edit: Sorry, forgot to mention that the file is "\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Python\Screens\CvExoticForeignAdvisor.py".

The line is:
Code:
# "GLANCE", \
at line 177. Simply remove the "#" out front and the Glance tab will be back.

Bh
If you don't want to mess with the .py files by yourself, Bhruic has them avaliable in his patch first fpost ( the second download )

So, that's the first game like that I played. I had some trouble to remember the times of the checkpoints so i totally missed the first one.
Played on noble.

1050 BC or so (how you decided to progress up the early tech/build process, which AIs you have met, etc)

Spoiler :
Early tech was: Agr(found in hut)/Min/Arch/BW/AH
Build order: Worker, Archer, Archer, Settler, Archer, Worker, Settler, Barracks, Axeman

I settled north-northeast of the copper to get some space between me and Wang. The second city is the one east of the horses.

After I had the copper connected I build an axeman and with that and two archers I decided to try to kill Wang while he had neither copper nor horses. As I found out, he didn't have archery either so I was able to take Seoul and a few turns later his second city. It was still a size one so it was destroyed.

Friedrich is angry because I attacked his now dead friend Wang. Seing that he hasn't connected his copper yet, I want to try to take out the city there and Hamburg in the north.

The technology I'm researching is iron working just in case somebody is wondering.

25 AD or so (after establishing some cities and a possible plan of action)
Spoiler :
I was able to take two of Friedrichs citiies but the Berlin proved to strong for me. Luckily he accepted a truce while I was connecting the horses and bringing in some new axeman.
I had to destroy the city east of Berlin next to the copper twice but he never did connect the copper and luckily didn't find the iron to the north of Berlin. So I took Berlin and built a new city next to the iron.
Next step could be a little difficult. I want to take Victoria next, she is the only one who isn't neutral. Seems she was friends to both Wang and Friedrich. But all of the others share buddhism so I don't know how they will react to an attack.

I'm not that happy with the cash flow but I got Code of Law with the Oracle and plan on building courthouses at least in the commerce cities.

1000 AD or so (mid-game, Lib race, wars or peace, or whichever happened or didnt, met other continent if applicable, etc)

Spoiler :
Yeah! Worked like a charm. Victoria had only archers at first so used the flank promotion a lot an wore them down before taking them down completely.
Luckily Ragner and Toku took the chance and attacked Justinian while I was busy with Victoria. So the three weren't interested in bothering me and couldn't take the chance to leave me behind in the tech race.
When Victoria got the first spearmen ready, my first swordmen started arriving. Never had any real trouble removing her from the game.

By now I began to have some real trouble with the cash flow. Research was at 10% at the most. I still had no currency so no chance to build some market places or wealth.

So I decided to try and take down Toku while my army was still up to date and really experienced.

I got some trouble remembering, which cities a took when. I offered him a peace treaty in exchange for construction after taking one or two of his cities, which he took. I used the 10 turns to build me some catapults. I saw by than, that he had built some cities on the islands, so I decided to just trow him of the continent and make peace after that.

Now I'm trying to connect all my cities and get them up to spec. Maybe I can get my research up to 30 or 40%. Techwise I'm as far as the others. Feudalism is universally known, so I have to reserach a bit before taking the next step.

1520 AD (or when you have decided on a course of action and a specific victory condition)

Spoiler :

Never had as much time as I thought I would have because Ragnar decided to attack me. I was researching Civil Service at that moment and was able to set the research slider to the maximum and promote some of my swordmen to macemen. Took me some time to gather the forces for an attack after beating off his attacks. Luckily he didn't have Engineering, so could still use my Keshiks.
I built a nice stack of catapults to wear down his defences and his longbowmen before going in with the Keshiks and maceman. I discovered guilds in between so I could promote my best Keshiks to knights.

War weariness is hitting me pretty strong by now but I want to finish off Ragnar while he is still researching Engineering. My knights will be pretty useless when he get some pikemen.

1806 AD End of game (Victory!!! or defeat, no shame in losing, especially if you tried a higher level. Learning is what we focus on, not fastest win or biggest empire)
Spoiler :
Domination Victory. I had to leave Ragnar with two cities, because I don't have a fleet.
I had to wait and research for some time because Justinian had discovered Engineering. No more easy victories with my knights.
I waited till I had Rifling discovered and dropped my science rate after that. I used the money (something like 600 gold per round) to promote my macemen, archers, longbowmen etc..
Was really angry when Haitabu switched to Justinian before my new army was ready.

After the discovery of Rifling it was pretty easy. He didn't even have gunpowder till the last city I took.
