Nobles Club IV - Frederick of Germany

Good games so far, people ;)

I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the map....

I don't want to spoil too much but this map is not from the script that it looks at first sight...if you put some effort in further explore you'll see why :p

Now some comments:
Spoiler :
It looks that Pacal in most games decided tto settler spam... I really wasn't expecting it, but like FeedBack said once " They are doing cities and wonders, while you do units.... in the end we have units ,cities and wonders  " rushing Pacal was definitely the thing to do, because of that and because that, of the Fin junkies, he was the one with better surroundings ( have you seen Wang start? good for the Collosus, but not much more ). and if you finished Pacal you would face the always bad techer nut Monty, so no big deal.....

I would like to see someone trying Conquest with this map.... not as easy as it seems, but it would be fun ;) )

@ Rolo:

Spoiler :
I went for domination...is that close enough? Getting conquest when you can win by domination is such a pain. Especially with all those piddly islands over there (I actually did have to island hop a little.

By the way, what script was this? I do not often see results like this...!

WTH?

@rolo? (ps-possible spoiler if you havn't played into the game too far)

Spoiler :
I've just got to 245AD I've met 6 civs and taoism has been founded in a distant land??? There are more AI's?

Spoiler :
I would like to see someone trying Conquest with this map.... not as easy as it seems, but it would be fun ;) )

Spoiler :
I'm currently at 1010AD and at war with Washington, Monty, and Gandhi. I've killed Pacal off, the idiot did declare war on me, and I steamrollered him. Monty and Gandhi became vassals of Washington so I have to take him out earlier than I thought. After I eliminate Monty and Washington, which will take a while, I'm going to try to go after conquest, not Domination. I'm going to refuse to accept any vassals, as I really don't like them.

Spoiler :
I've just got to 245AD I've met 6 civs and taoism has been founded in a distant land??? There are more AI's?

Spoiler :
Probably colonies. In theory, you can wind up with many, many AI's on your hands if they start making colonies.

Spoiler fest on me :run: ;)
@TheMeInTeam
Spoiler :
Exactly what I meant..... vassalizing/Erasing all the island civs ( mainly colonies, I presume ) would be a major PITA.... domination is pretty easy. The script is Big and small, all random.... normally gives Pangea style big continent with a miriad of small/medium islands ( inhabited or not ) but sometimes it gives even wierder stuff

@Groogaroo
Spoiler :
This map started wiht 1 Human, 6 AI and 11 open slots ( the normal settings for a standart sized map ). But in BtS that doesn't mean that it will be only those AI until the end... ;)

And the " Taoism founded in distant lands" doesnt mean that a unknown AI founded it by it self... it only means that you don't have the Taoism holy city on your map at the moment of founding

@Jerrymander
Spoiler :
I wish you good luck.... with this map you'll have some dificulties in doing that.

I finally finished my KK game!

Time to crack on with Fred.

So our great leader.

He's PHI and ORG.

PHI: + 100% GPP and double speed universities.

ORG: Civic upkeep -50% and double production speed of courthouses and lighthouses.

UU: Panzer - anti-tank tank +50% vs. armored units! If it goes to modern warfare this is the daddy (providing the AI has tanks of course).

UB: Assembly Plant - replaces factory - can have 2 extra engineers. If like me you are planning a food heavy map thats an ok little boost.

My thoughts on the start are settle in place and move the scout NW.

Tech will be BW> Fishing

Build Worker then chop WBs followed by some millitary etc. You get the idea.

I'm going to try to get quite a few coastal cities and use the cheap lighthouses. Will try for Oracle and take MC for Collossus. Might also try for TGL. Gonna try to build no cottages, so trade routes and specialists will be it for me!

Of course this may all change when I finally see the map!

Oh yer might try for a conquest victory. As ever space will be the back up! Maybe I'll make life hard on myself in the next game (archipeligo is it?) and try a space win with low production!

@ r_rolo1:

Spoiler :
Great Map! :backstab:

You must've known I'd be playing this map, because it has all the elements I like ... on the other side of the map!

But seriously ... you're pretty good at this map-making thing. :goodjob:

Can you rebuild this map but with ROME as the leader?

@rolo

Spoiler :
Ahh... I get it. I just teched paper and did some map trades and I have one thing to say.

This map is sick :yuck: but very interesting. What script was used to make it?

@Jerrymander
Spoiler :
I wish you good luck.... with this map you'll have some dificulties in doing that.

Spoiler :
I don't have the entire map mapped out, but there seems to be a lot of land to the east of Montezuma. I'll upload a screen later today, when I'm at my Civ computer. I really don't want a Domination victory. :(

More spoiler attack on me ;)
@OTAKUjbski
Spoiler :
 ... And by what you posted you haven't saw the whole thing yet ( hint: go east ).

If you want Rome there I can give it to you.... it is a minor notepad editing. But do you really want to Preat Rush again? That is so Vanilla... :rotfl:

@Groogaroo
Spoiler :
The map is somehow crazy ( and it looks that you only know roughly half of it ) , but this one is a pure result of the RNG. Script was Big and small , all random.

@Jerrymander
Spoiler :
I suppose that you are a warmonger of heart ;) But if you don't hurry , you need some more of army that you think...

First 1000 years: here.
3200 BC through 190 AD: here.

And now, 190 AD through 1290 AD.

Spoiler :
I have hung in there pretty well. My tech rate is improving, I am still behind, but winning the Lib race by a long ways.

Civ4ScreenShot0096.jpg

Diplomacy wise, its not great, but hanging in there. I have made friends with Pacal, with every intention of stabbing him in the back soon. He had a brief war with Monty, which I was happy about. Monty and I share no common borders, so even though he is mad at me, I am not worried. I also took Pacals religion, which was sweet since he built the AP. I have enough votes to prevent him from winning, and if I take some of his cities later, I will have enough to take control of it.

Glance, I suck at diplo, LOL, but I am an introvert by nature anyway:

Civ4ScreenShot0097.jpg

There isnt much else to report. Wang and HC each took one of my Barb Cities from the last update, and it sucked extra because in 2 turns my own troops would have taken them. HC took his with my guys RIGHT on the other side of the city, ready to hit him next turn! He will lose that city soon though, as soon as I am confident I can handle Monty. For now, its a nice buffer. I had a mini-war with Wang and took the other one, his core of cities is so far away he cant do much about it. Here are my cities:

Civ4ScreenShot0095.jpg

Berlin is strong. Running scientists all over the place. Building the AW now, since I am getting the hammer bonus for my Hindu buildings. Priest Specialists are better than Engineer ones with the AW.

Civ4ScreenShot0094.jpg

Other than that I am just biding my time. Keeping my power in the middle of the pack. Not overextending myself. I have a map of almost the whole world now (by trading maps with Gandhi, then taking Wangs map to give him peace).

Post Astro, I can settle some of those islands to the west. There are some nice spots. I lost a lot of Wonders to Pacal, but thats OK, I plan to take them soon enough. Taking Nationalism with Lib, bee-lining Rifling, nice knowin you Pacal. I am NOT going to trade Education for a while, and I am currently using spies to perform Counter Espionage on everyone so they cant steal techs from me.

Taking a small break on this game to launch another project. Still have to finish the Mansa LHC as well, and my turn is coming up on the NCSG soone, LOL. Lots on my plate, but I dont mind, keeps me nice and busy.

Hang in there guys! Establish yourself, and dont be impatient. Lots of game to play, UU coming soon and this is a good map to use it! Stay close to the top til you get there, and you will be in a position to win!

Opps! I can't stop playing this game now! so much for taking my time. Here is my 1000AD report.

4000BC initial thoughts
4000BC - 2000BC
2000BC - 1AD

1AD - 1000AD (Warning - Map Spoilers Ahead)

Spoiler :
I decided against any wars this round, my military might is woeful compared to my closest nieghbours (pacal/monty) and I've done reasonably well grabbing myself enough land for now. I plan to get to lib asap and shoot for rifles.

So everything seemed to go okay this round I started bulbing key techs like philosophy and education converted to philosophy and adopted Confu as my state religion which messed up my relations with the world but never mind, I need the boost to my GPP. I plan to use the rest of my Great persons for settling/acadamies from now on.

I only have six cities at the moment but they seem adequate for my plan at the moment.

The overall plan is to absorb pacal when I get rifles and just tech away to space from there, after rifles I will probably bee-line biology and run shed loads of scientists.

Here is the map of my empire

Groo_NC4_1000AD_01.jpg

And after some map trade I get a picture of the rest of the world.

Groo_NC4_1000AD_02.jpg

Crazy map!

And here is power, I'm still way behind Pacal and monty but that will change soon!

Groo_NC4_1000AD_03.jpg

And tech, I'm struggling a bit here allthough I'm skipping alot of techs at the moment to get to lib asap.

Groo_NC4_1000AD_04.jpg

Updort: to 1025AD.

Spoiler :
Okay, I played this set last night. Timeline, first of all:
170 AD - I found Confu
210 - Discover Monarchy, adopt HR
410 - Taoism in distant land (???) No AI converted to it, so it was either Wang or some AI I haven't met yet.
460 - Tlaxcala razed. Now I can beeline to Monty's capital.
500 - Feudalism, just in time.
505 - Pacal declares war on me. My longbowmen defeat his pitiful attack forces. I counter with war elephants, among other things. I get a Great General (man I love the Great Wall now)
520 - I capture Tenochitlan, Monty reverts to Hereditary Rule from Police State. Pyramids are mine. I think I switched to Representation later.
530 - War begins between Capac and Washington/Wang Kon. Nothing major comes of it.
545 - Rep/Vassalage adopted. Hamburg can pump out 9 XP units now.
565 - Raze another of Monty's cities. I am moving too slow, I realize at this point.
575 - Texcoco captured.
600 - Xukpi (Pacal) razed
625 - Tlateloco captured, kept, now I am glad I did. I'll trade it later to Washington for peace so I can build my stack without a threat of invading Horse Archers.
630 - Peace with Monty, so I can concentrate on Pacal.
650 - Capac makes peace, gandhi becomes voluntary vassal of Washington :/
700 - Oxhuitza captured.
715 - Another GG for me, that makes it 4. :D
740 - Lakamha razed (city he built with one of his many settlers on a razed site)
780 - Mutal captured. I have temple of artemis now.
805 - Chichen Itza captured.
835 - Uxmal captured.
835 - Crippled Monty goes to war with Washington (******)
865 - Monty loses a city
875 - I capture the last Mayan city (Mayapan). No more Pacal.
885 - Monty capitulated (Washington has 2 vassals, both of them at the lowest point of the power graph, though.)
910 - I declare war on Monty, Washington, and gandhi.
925 - Caxlitahtlsufdj captured
935 - Apostolic palace built in Gandhi or Capac's lands. (Jewish)
955 - Texcoco lost to Washington
965 - teohitucan captured, Monty's only cities are in the jungle to Berlin's east. All with no culture, haha.
970 - Tzintzuntzen razed
985 - Monty is a free state. I can now make peace with Washington and pursue Monty.
1010 - Trade Washington Tlateloco (crappy city, build ON a gold resource?!) for peace.
1025 - Meet Qin Shihuang FOR THE FIRST TIME. Wow, how many other civs are there?

Oh wow the most hilarious thing happened in 1130:

Spoiler :
I lost a city to Capac, because he declared war on me. So he raids my land, in a hybrid stack consisting of spearmen/jaguars of Monty and Incan catapults and chariots. They park on a forest/hill outside one of my crappy cities (+75% defence) so I move a stack of 4 macemen, a catapult, and a elephant adjacent to my city but not in it. They capture the city, and I kill off all the catapults with losing almost no health, haha. The AI is not very bright.

Hi

I did a lil restart:

It is amazing how the same map can be soo diff.

Spoiler :
I did two things diffrenty. A I moved up on that plains hills to settle. Yeah in long run it cost me a mine and in short run it maybe cost me Oracle since I got beat to it. But it got me to get some warriors out fast to go and pin Pacal hehe. I know I KNOW its cheesey but he ticked me off :P

Other differences is since pacal got pinned he didnt found hinduism ghandi did. ALso I actually got buddhism early and now the whole continient is just one big happy Buddhist family.

Other big differences is Ghandi and Washington decided to man up in this game. Last game Monty attacked Ghandi first and he died FAST them steam rolled washington until he was nothing. But this game Monty left Ghandi alone and picked washington first. Monty did steamrolled georgie pretty fast but george is sticking it out in one last city. luckily for george that last city is on a hill with walls and fortified axes and archers. And Monty einstein that he is after suicided his whole stack on it is now just running in jags piecemeal at it. So if nothing else by time he goes out Georgie should have like a few level 20 units or something hehe.

I am not sure if I will finish this game out since I TOTALLY cheated by knowing what to expect this time and pinned down pacal so I could spread out a lil more. But it WAS nice pounding Pacal into dust so I feel better now :)

Spoiler :
Whenever I do it, he backstabs me. Incidentally, the UN's a pain in the butt. They won't let me go to war. :)

Heh Groo, same here (cant seem to stop playing it! Gotta click ONE MORE TURN! LOL)

@rolo
Spoiler :
Great map Rolo. You do have an awesome eye for this sort of thing. I really like it because you can bide your time and turn it around as you close in on your UU (if you played it without knowing what some of the AIs would do, heh). The PYL maps looked good to, you were right on about the "unbalanced" one, I checked the starts, WOW, would have been mad nuts. Even 2 has some killer starts, all very appropriate for sure.

Round 0: 4000 BC - 4000 BC.

Round 1: 4000 BC - 2000 BC.

Round 2: 2000 BC - 25 AD.

Round 3: 25 AD - 990 AD:

Spoiler the wall of text :
I'm doing fine, but I'm still not #1 in anything but score.

Montezuma has all but crushed Washington .. I'm just glad he's Pleased with me and still occupied elsewhere.

HC captured Delhi, which I was hoping to snag. So now unless I want to kick a hornets nest against HC and Monty -- my best friends so far, I'll just have to focus elsewhere.

I have three religions and a tech lead. I'm seriously thinking about going for a culture victory for giggles.

I'll have Liberalism at the beginning of next round if I want it ... I'm not sure if I wanna try to save it for something better or what. Who knows, eh?

That pretty much covers it.
Spoiler the picture book :
40 AD: Berlin queues up 2 Workers. If I expect to settle any new cities in the Jungle, I'm going to need a lot more Workers. (I built about 4 over the round but still don't think I have enough.)
40 AD: Wang Kon (Korea) discovers the secrets of Calendar. (But, he's not willing to trade it just yet.)
130 AD: Lawlz ... I'm at 0% with +2 GPT & +12 RPT.
160 AD: Indian researchers are rumoured to have suffered a major setback, slowing their progress. (Better them than me!)
160 AD: Ptolemy (Great Scientist) born in Lakamha. (Settled as an Academy in Mutal next turn.)
175 AD: A massive explosion has destroyed one of our [Iron] mines. (Apparently, last time I improved mining safety, I didn't do it well enough.)
175 AD: Huayna Capec (Inca) discovers the secrets of Calendar. (Now he and Wang are both willing to trade it, but only at a steep price ... I need to think about this.)
175 AD: Washington, could you spare Masonry for a Friend? (He said yes, lol!)
205 AD: Huayna Capac has completed the Hanging Gardens [in Cuzco]!

205AD_HCHG.jpg

205 AD: Huayna Capac trades his Calendar for my Code of Laws and Monarchy. (I really hate lopsided trades like this, but I want the +diplo for fair trading, plus with so many Calendar resources in my territory and in the frontier, I kinda felt I had no choice.)

205AD_HCtrade.jpg

295 AD: New York (Washington) has been captured by the Aztec Empire!!!
310 AD: Gandhi and Huayna Capac both ask if I care to help them to Philosophy. (lol ... yeah ... sure ... they're both at Pleased, so no -diplo for saying no)
355 AD: Floods have washed out the routes near Lakamha. (WTH. Can I get a good random event any time soon, jack ass?)
370 AD: Your researchers have discovered the secrets of Currency. (GPT instantly went up +9 and RPT +7! ... research started on Polytheism > Aesthetics > Literatures > Music)

370AD_Currency.jpg

385 AD: Montezuma's 4 GPT traded for my Clam (1 of 2).

385AD_Montytrade.jpg

400 AD: Huayna Capac has declared war on Gandhi.
415 AD: Wang Kon has declared war on Huayna Capac.
415 AD: Pliny has completed his greatest work, The Largest Civilizations in the World! It's no surprise Monty's at #1, but he doesn't know how to manage his land well, so all should be well. Guess who's at #2?

415AD_2Largest.jpg

445 AD: You have pillaged 103 Gold from the capture of Bactrian!!! (I kept this city for it's great +food. I think it's centralized location should make a great Globe Theatre drafting/specialist city as soon as I can whip some infrastructure in it.

445AD_Bactrian.jpg

475 AD: Bombay (Gandhi) has been captured by the Incan Empire!!! (That's the unshrined Christian Holy City.)
475 AD: Francis Bacon (Great Scientist) born in Mutal. (Settled)
505 AD: Wang Kon has completed the Pyramids [in Seoul]!!! (Grrr ... I knew that would happen, but I didn't expect to lose it to WK. Oh well, it nets me +465 Gold for some massive deficit research, so w/e.)

505AD_lostpyramids.jpg

525 AD: Atlanta (Washington) has been captured by the Aztec Empire!!! (I figured Washington would be out of cities by now, but he's still got one somewhere.?)
565 AD: Your researchers have discovered the secrets of Literature!!! (Work immediately started on the Great Library in Mutal.)
580 AD: Aesthetics sold to Gandhi for 130 Gold. (He was 5 turns from finishing it, so I wanted what I could get out of it.)

580AD_Gandhitrade.jpg

595 AD: Montezuma's 220 Gold traded for my Philosophy. (I was hoping this immensely lopsided trade would get him to Friendly, but it didn't.)

595AD_Montytrade.jpg

595 AD: Huayna Capac's Construction, Horseback Riding, Monotheism and 60 Gold traded for my Philosophy.

595AD_HCtrade.jpg

625 AD: Wang Kon's 340 Gold traded for my (HC's) Horseback Riding. (Yay for tech-brokering!)

625AD_WKtrade.jpg

655 AD: Library [finally] whipped in Munich. (2 Scientists and 1 Spy assigned next turn.)
655 AD: Huayna Capac demands I cancel deals with the Korean. The blocks appear to be me, Monty and HC against Gandhi and Wang Kon, so I agree.
655 AD: Gandhi wants me to join him in fighting against the Incans. Um ... no.
655 AD: Montezuma urgently requests the mighty Germans assist him in his crusade against the Americans. Sure, why not? A token war for +diplo? What a deal!?!

655AD_waragainstAmerica.jpg

685 AD: Vincent van Gogh (Great Artist) has been born in Berlin (OTAKUjbski)! (I'm saving him for a rainy day ... research started on Civil Service.)
700 AD: Wang Kon has completed the Colussus [in Seoul]!
775 AD: OTAKUjbski has completed The Statue of Zeus [in Berlin]!
775 AD: Delhi (Gandhi) has been captured by the Incan Empire! (damn)
775 AD: Huayna Capac has made peace with Gandhi.
775 AD: Montezuma's 150 Gold traded for my Currency. (Yet another lopsided deal. But since, Monty's my best trading partner, this'll boost my trade routes, too!)

775AD_Montytrade.jpg

790 AD: Gandhi has agreed to become a vassal state of Wang Kon.

795AD_Gandhivassalizes.jpg

805 AD: Courthouse whipped in Bactrian.
820 AD: Your researches have discovered the secrets of Civil Service! (Research started on Paper.)
820 AD: OTAKUjbski adopts Bureaucracy!
835 AD: Huayna Capac's 4 GPT traded for my Sugar (1 of 2). I don't like trading happiness resources to a strong rival, but I also know I need all the GPT I can muster.
855 AD: Attila the Hun seeks to plunder the riches of civilization.
870 AD: Yayoi (Barbarian State) has been captured by the Indian empire!!!
870 AD: Yayoi (Gandhi) has been captured by the Barbarian State. (YAY! Finally, a random event plays in my favour ... and of all of them to be a Barbarian Uprising, lol! I had a Settler on the way to move Yayoi 1S on the Sugar to grab THE ONLY GEMS ON THE MAP. Then Gandhi captured it, and I cried. Then the Barbarians took it right back. Then they promptly left it completely empty.!?)
900 AD: Montezuma's Golden Age has begun!!!
900 AD: You have pillaged 8 Gold from the capture of Yayoi!! (I was afraid Monty was about to capture it, so I went ahead and razed it ... the crossed my fingers for the next 5 turns while my Settler rushed over.)
900 AD: Your researches have discovered the secrets of Paper! (I haven't made any map trades yet ... research started on Education.)
900 AD: Hayna Capac's Metal Casting and Drama traded for my Literature, Music and 45 Gold.

900AD_HCtrade.jpg

910 AD: Granary whipped in Bactrian. (yes, I know I should've whipped this first before the Courthouse.)
930 AD: Antoine Laurent Lavoisier (Great Scientist) born in Lakamha. (He is promptly bulbed for +2520 towards Education.)

930AD_Educationbulbed.jpg

950 AD: Frankfurt founded 1S of Yayoi's ruins. (I'm leaving those ruins, because I'm still hoping for the ruins event, which I don't recall having gotten yet.)
960 AD: OTAKUjbski has completed The Great Library [in Mutal]!
960 AD: OTAKUjbski has completed Shwedagon Paya [in Hamburg]

960AD_wonderful.jpg

970 AD: Montezuma trades his 7 GPT for my Clam (1 of 2). (This deal was simply renegotiated for +3 more GPT to me.)
990 AD: Your researchers have discovered the secrets of Education!!! (Research started on Liberalism)

990AD_education.jpg
The State of the World: 990 AD

Round 4: 990 AD - 1480 AD

Final Round: 1480 - 1869

Well another update, I'm finding this game to be the closest game I've played on prince, techwise, so it should be a really challenging towards the end as I'm going for a space race win here.

Spoiler :
So, tech is really close this game, but my plan was get nationalism (and build a Taj GA) from libralism then bee-line rifles and wipe out pacal, his cities should be enough to make me the biggest kid on the block and tech away to a nice space race win.

However, before that... I'm finding that my six cities pretty restrictive and tech wise I'm just keeping level with the tech leaders, which are Huayna, Gandhi and Wang. I got to lib first and chose Nationalism, this was a bit of a waste as I never built the taj Mahal, it would just take to long, so I just burned a GP for a nice golden age to build up monies and got to rifling, upgraded my troops to rifles with a stash of 4000 gold that I'd saved up!

Heres a pic of the power graph before and after the ugrade! Hahahaha! Suddenly I'm no1 in power!

Groo_NC4_1500AD_01.jpg

Pacal is currently at war with Monty, so his cities are looking rather undefended, here is a pic of my mini army, a bunch of trebs and rifles. Pacal should be easy pickings now!

Groo_NC4_1500AD_02.jpg

and heres the tech situation, pretty even, but I'm the only one with rifling at the moment.

Groo_NC4_1500AD_03.jpg

So by my next post pacal should be no more!
