Sent.

All right, i delayed the update a couple of hours hoping that people would send last minute orders but that did not happen, UPDATE started.

Who missed?

i received a couple of orders so the only ones missing now are Genova, Calabria, Noricum and Saxony.

Owtch, fair few! Come on you guys!

Update is almost done so i wont accept more orders (Noricum sent them a couple of hours ago) I hope i will be able to post it in two or three hours, much less if i do the stats and map later.

Good day.

Lurker's comment: It's a common misunderstanding by people outside Scandinavia; even though the Vikings are often from Norway, Denmark is not at ALL blanked out. There's a reason that Denmark conquered England and Norway didn't. All Norway did was to poke to Scotland and play with the Irish. And then, of course, to explore. The Swedes founded Russia.

Update Spotlight:

La Guerra de la Unificación

In Valencia, King Alejo declares the his intention to wage war against the "rebels loyal to the traitor Almarico" and "reunite Hispania". He orders general Enrique Vasquez to muster a massive army and march north to the Pyrenees and then move west into the rebels territory, however the maneuver becomes a major failure as Basque militias begin staging bloody ambushes, killing the General and forcing the army into a hasty retreat. After due rest King Alejo decides to lead the army himself in a direct assault on the fortified city of Calagurris, the assault is successful but short after the city is taken an Asturian army with a large presence of Heavy Cavalry arrives and lays siege, King Alejo attempts to break the siege and is killed in the attempt, however surviving footmen retreat safely into Hispania's territory while the slower Hispadancinas stay in Calagurris. In the subsequent years the Asturian Heavy Cavalry raids and plunders to the territories of Hispania but is unable to retake Calagurris or any Hispanian towns.

National Happenings:

France
After almost doubling the size of their army the French join the central European efforts to vanquish the warmongering Saxons from Europe, they march northeast and take the lightly defended Tongres with little losses and proceed to lay siege to the Saxon Capitol, the siege goes on until the Genevan and Burgundian armies arrive and begin a mass assault on the Capitol. The Saxon capitol falls after some fierce fighting and the sides begins to squabble over whom should take control of the city and in the end decide to simply plunder and raze the city. During southwards expansions French forces frequently skirmish with Genevan forces whom are also expanding into the area. (France +1000 Footmen, +1000 Crossbowmen, -500 Footmen, -200 Crossbowmen, +1 Gold Income, +1 Gold Banked)

Genova
The lands of Genova are extensively raided by Sardegna's Pirates and lose control of Corsica to Sardegna. (-500 Footmen, -5 Galleys, -1 Gold Income)

Saxons
Facing imminent destruction by the Burgundian, Genevan and French armies most of Saxon nobility flees the country with all the gold they can carry and makes their way to Britannia where they offer their service as mercenaries to the King. The Saxons lands are plundered extensively and their people forcibly converted to Christianity. (-Saxon Empire)

Burgundy
Prince Gundioc leads the Burgundian army down the Rhine, talking and plundering six Saxon cities and becoming known as Gundioc the Destroyer. His luck ran out during the storming of Aix-la-Chapelle where he was gravely wounded. The Burgundians discover that King Gundobar had died of presumably natural causes a few years after being captured, his remains are transported back to Worms where they are buried in a proper Christian funeral. Gundioc is crowned King however age and battle wounds are taking a toll on his health so he abdicates in favor of his younger brother, Gunthar the Fierce. Gunthar then, with support of newly arrived clergy, led an effort to convert and pacify the Saxons. Burgundy also receives a large shipment of slaves meant to form a slave army to fight the Saxons, however the Saxons were easily crushed making the slave army pointless so the slaves were put to work to restore the farmlands and roads of Burgundy. (+250 Burgundian Honorguards +300 Burgundian Shock Infantry, +900 Footmen, +100 Mounted Foot Archers, -600 Footmen, -250 Warriors, -150 Burgundian Shock Infantry, +1 Loyalty, +2 Gold Income, +12 Gold Banked -3 Gold banked to Geneva, -3 gold banked to Pope)

Prince Gundioc and the Burgundian forces annihilated the Saxons

Goths
The Goths train 500 Gornothias, which are Gothic light cavalry and send 200 of the south to take control of Dalmatia, the people of Salona welcome them with spears and arrows, decimating them and forcing a full retreat back to their onwn territory, the city is later taken by force when the Goths returned with a larger army. Expansion north and northwest is far less bloody but most of those territories are uninhabited and of little worth. The Goths also begin to restore the Roman roads and create new roads, to connect their cities and greatly boost the redeployment speeds of their armed forces. (+500 Gornothias. -100 Gornothias, -100 Ghuiatas, +Woodland Roads)

Calabria
Reggio, the Capitol of Calabria is sacked by Pirates, the economical loss is not staggering, though the nation's Treasury is looted. (-Banked Gold)

Britannia
Fearing more raids from Northumbria the Kingdom of Brittania massively increases the size of their armed forces, this coupled with the arrival of the Saxon Æþeling makes the Kingdom of Britannia one of the greatest military powers in the known world. In Britannia the formidable British Noble Cavalry is formed

Constanbul
The Constan Army campaigns once more to expand Constanbul's territories, Moesia joins the Empire relatively peacefully, expansion into Macedonia is initially a failure as the Horse Army of Constan is beaten back time after time by Macedonian garrisons fighting in traditional Macedon phalanxes, the Macedonians are ultimately defeated as the King of Constanbul, touring Moesia, take controls of Moesian garrison and his personal guard and leads them into Macedonia, crushing all resistance. Costan Expansion into Asia Minor triggered a major Migration to the Patriarchate of Myra, taking everything they can with them and at times even burning down houses and fields to prevent them to be taken by the hated Costans. The expeditions to establish colonies on Cyprus, Sarmatia and Cilicia where successful, however the one to Crete was a failure as Crete had recently joined the Hellenic League. The Surge of Pirate activity also resulted in a sharp increase of profits as most slaves and other looted goods made their way into Constan markets, however the surge of slaves also caused a Major setback for the Costan Empire as slave rebellions engulfed the southwest Bithynia. Under the leadership of Cus of Sparta (one of the few spartan soldiers that survived the battle with the Athinean loyalists two decades ago just to be sold into slavery) the Slave Army plundered their way southwards along the coast, pillaging cities and freeing many more Slaves before entering Myran territory and largely dispersing. (+1000 Light Cavalry, +1000 Archers, +1000 Footmen, -500 Light Cavalry -400 Footmen, -100 Light Cavalry, +3 Gold Income, +7 Gold banked, -3 Gold Income)

cusofspartayd7.jpg

Cus of Sparta led the great slave rebellion
Avars
The Avars send their Cavalry to expand their empire on their northeast frontier, their Horse Army has once again much trouble in taking fortified positions and they are forced to employ time consuming and value damaging starvation tactics to take the towns, the Avar Army also manages to take control of large tracts of uninhabited land of little value. They also loosen up their social reforms a little allowing people from lower castes to raise and possibly become part of the ruling caste. (+500 Heavy Cavalry, +1000 Horse Archers -1500 Light Cavalry).

Hispania
Besides an Indecisive war with Astutrias in which they suffer massive raids, the Kingdom of Hispania attempts to blockade the Asturian coastal town of Brigantium, the mission succeeds in mauling the Austurian fleet but fails to blockade the City due to the inability to establish supply lines through pirate infested waters. the fleet of Hispania returns home just in time to evacuate the Balearic Islands which have suffered a massive invasion by Sardegna's pirates. (+3000 Footmen, +5 Galleys, -1000 Footmen -3 Galleys, -1 Gold Income)

Achaeans/Hellenes

The Restoration of Athens is finished and representatives from surrounding Hellenic lands are invited to the festivities, after the festivities the representatives are invited to tour the newly build Senate of Athens where they addressed by the Speaker of the Senate, he spoke of the Pirates, Slavers and other perils that threaten the Hellenic peoples and offered them to take a seat in the senate and become part of the new Hellenic League. (+1000 Footmen, +500 Archers, +250 Hoplites, +10 Galleys, +1 Gold Income)

Noricum
Noricum expands their armed forces and territory. (+1000 Footmen, +2 Gold Banked)

Geneva
After raising a thousand light cavalry General Dufour is sent north to secure those territories and then to support Burgundian efforts to destroy the Saxons, meanwhile another large contingent of men in sent westwards to secure those lands, that led to semi regular skirmishes with French troops that were attempting to expand southwards towards the Pyrenees. Geneva also receive a good share of the Saxon's loot. (+3 Gold Banked, +1 Gold Income, +1000 Light Cavalry, -300 Footmen, -100 Light Cavalry)

NPC Diplomacy
From the Kingdom of Asturias
To the Kingdom of Hispania

As promised your father's head ended up on my spear, i might be to old to accomplish the same with you but i assure you that my successor will accomplish that feat unless you cease your warmongering against the Kingdom of Asturias.

From Emperor of the Mediterranean
To Hispania, Genova, Papacy, Holy League, Calabria, Noricum, Avars, Hellenic League, Costanbul and Myra.

My subjects, the fools of Hispania, Genova and Calabria dared to speak out against me and were punished for it. Now that that they have been put into their place i command you all to pay us tribute, if you do you will be allowed to sail on our waters, if your refuse i'll send my forces to collect a much higher tribute.

Other Messages:

@Yui, you missed the deadline and your enemies ganged on you so Saxony is gone, feel free to join again.
@Everyone interested in joining, the Pirates cannot be taken for this turn, i'm planning a plot twist for next turn, after that their successors state will be playable.

The Pirate lords have moved out of north Africa so players can start or expand there

Some barbarians have grown in strength and wont let you take their lands easily, some might even decide to migrate, especially if displaced by other, stronger barbarian hordes.

to Geneva:
The people of Geneva are occupying vast lands settled long ago by Franks. How do you suggest this will be dealt with?

to pope:
We ask you to demand Burgundy to give us the northern coasts of Saxony! Without that land we could not spread Christianity into central Europe.

from il sacrosanto Papa
to the French

The most pious Burgundians have proven beyond any doubt that conversion of heathens and support of the Papacy are their top priorities, your efforts on the other hand have been most lacking, finish to convert the heathens in Gallicia and donate generously to our cause and then we will see what can be done.

OOC: The Frankish homeland is first and foremost Netherlands. Along the Rhine. Then, under Clovis (after the Roman Demise) they took modern France. centuries later Charlemagne took most of France, north Spain, North Italy, Western Germany and other lands and was proclaimed Empouror. The Frankish homelands is around the coasts I think. Maybe some in the rivers but NOT in the mountains as it completly over rides, I mean COMPLETLY, as they started on coasts and rivers. If you stay in the Mountains you'll be OK. (I Think)

@ Feanor
Can I research 'Crop Rotation' and 'Home Steading'?

Sorry for forgeting to say this... I love how you update so fast!!! I mean, already this outpaced Chincuk and it has lived for who knows how long!

Also, conquest is starting to get too easy... except that we didn't find any cities. How much will it cost to build Trading Posts/Cities?

Feanor you forgot my cavalry  I loved the Spanish story.

To France from the free peoples of Geneva
Laughable claims on ancestoral lands your emissaries brought. We could settle this in two ways, we can ask Mars to pick the righful owner of the land or we could trade land for land and spare the lives of soldiers. War or peace is in your hands for we see no other way of settling.

@ Feanor: Can I research 'Crop Rotation' and 'Home Steading'?

I thought about it and i think it would be best if players research would be quite limited, you can build academies, libraries etc. if you want your peoples to advance faster but besides that it seems quite unrealistic to have a ruler order that "Crop Rotation" is researched.

Also, conquest is starting to get too easy... except that we didn't find any cities. How much will it cost to build Trading Posts/Cities?
You should build fortresses and when there is enough population people will create cities near the fortifications. If you want to create some kind of great, planned city you should do it through projects, those those cities should be for prestige rather than simple habitation.

Feanor you forgot my cavalry

Stats are not done, i hope to post them later today or early tomorrow.
