SGOTM 07 - Smurkz

I had a go at it, hope you don't mind. And I think we should definitely go for NE first:
Spoiler :
plan73-108nefirst274.png

Note that this requires that we chop and build the cottage before we road the sheep, which means we must cancel the Crab gift to Washington in two turns. But I think that's a fairly low price to pay.

Drama is the only tech we really want at that point, right? So if it's not available yet, there'd be no point in stopping.

Currency would be desirable to have asap.

I didn't check the sheet, but NE before LH sounds right.

Don't have the game open now, but can we trade away our copper to anyone we like?

Too bad we cannot give Asoka copper instead of crabs for gold
I do have some concerns gifting copper to washington who appears to have no metal. But I am willing to open the discussion here. We may also gift the metal to who ever is our best shot at warring with Liz. Problem would of course be that she would be mad at us trading with her worst ennemies....

Niklas, thanks for the sheet and no I do not mind :D (how could I). Summary is that we gain 2 turns on Edu without loosing too much on growth and exploration. That's cool.
Still looking into the minor details, but my guess is also we could go for it.

Renata, I will pause after CoL if we can get Drama for sure. Else, probably not, as you mentionned.

zyxy, copper can be gifted to Wash, Liz and Toku. Liz is a big no, for sure. Toku might be an interesting folk to trade with, but that would make Liz mad I think. Washington is a very close neighbour, I like the fact he does not have axes yet.

Things we want and could perhaps get in trades. Some of these would probably require us to trade CoL + additional techs.

Drama
Meditation (prerequisite for philosophy which is prerequisite for liberalism).
Currency
Compass
Construction

And probably more. At least take a look and consider the options when we get CoL.

Chris, sure. I'll make a stop after CoL. I did not see zyxy's post and yours about currency. +1 trade route is a good thing to have for sure.

If we all agree on the road towards CoL (and I think we do) as described in Niklas sheet, let me play in ~4 hours to few turns up to CoL. Then we can check and discuss trade opportunities.

I don't want to trade for meditation. Even with an aggressive trading strategy, it's too cheap. It'll soon cost us only a fraction of a turn to research ourselves.

I'm going to have limited availability for the next few days. I have guests today and tomorrow, then Sunday we're planning to upgrade the computer, which is always fun. Let's hope I'll be able to get on the internet again by Monday. :crazyeye:

Here's the sheet. :)

I'd forgotten all about Meditation. I agree we shouldn't trade for it, it likely won't even delay us to Education if we research it ourselves, we have enough of a margin.

Not sure about that copper gift to Washington. Switching to Judaism should get him to Pleased right away, and after that we're in less hurry to get him to Friendly.

I guess we do have an agreement on the way to CoL. I'll play these turns after dinner (~1.5h) (an hungry player is a rushed player is a bad player) then I'll update you.

Don't forget to cancel the Crabs gift once we have grown to size 9 (no need before that). Good luck! :)

EDIT: Also, if we lose the Furs then we will do so on the first IBT, right after the revolt. If we do then of course you'll have to stop as well...

News from the meta-game sphere: Misfits seem to be able to match our expected cultural output over the coming turns. They also have the highest score at the current date. Did they build the GLib too? Seems likely. Otherwise a lot of teams have now played past our position without any scaring cultural graphs, it's only Misfits so far.

unkle, how's the game coming along? :)

:bump: unkle?

Murky Waters have played on past our position, they're not far ahead in score, but their culture is starting to pick up (from a very low point).

Sorry fo the delay, I got some mmmm unexpected mmmm drinks yesterday and eeeeee went to sleep without any option for Civ4 (cough cough). All in alll I was not able to do anything yesterday night :D

Here we are, let's go Smurkz:

Turn 0 (73), 1080BC
Switch to Judaism.

IBT: we keep the furs (50%). cpt is 29. Hanging gardens built IAFAL.
When did washington get Longbows ???? Geee.

Turn 1 (74), 1040BC
Worker move, some citizen switch to get pop9 next turn.

IBT: furs kept. Wash has 7 LB hanging around....

Turn 2 (75), 1000BC
Start chopping. Cancel crab gift with Washington.

IBT: Taoism found IAFAL.

Turn 3 (76), 975BC
Liz/Asoka have currency but not trading it.

IBT:

Turn 4 (77), 950 BC
CoL is ours. Chop finished, NE next turn.

I stop here even if the trade front is NOT looking good. Currency is not on the table, nobody shows Drama. It seems I may play a little more tonight.

Looking good so far. :)

We're now in good standing with Washington and Asoka, as expected we got the +1 Resource Trade bonus (did you note which turn that happened unkle?) as well as the shared religion bonuses.

It's unfortunate but not surprising that there's no trade chance for Currency. I'm not expecting us to get it before CS anyway, even if it would be really nice if we could. There's no hurry for Drama either, we could even wait until after Astronomy to get it.

HC is now Annoyed with Lizzy, so no new OB agreement there. Too bad, but I guess it was inevitable.

On a positive note, Delhi has grown to size 10, which means we now have +3 income from our trade route! (Did you note which turn that happened too?)

Only two turns left until we know we'll keep the Furs indefinitely. I would be very surprised if we lost them even for a turn now though.

I'm fine with you playing on with the spreadsheet as it stands, I don't see anything that needs immediate discussion.

Hmm, one thing though, Asoka has 2 gpt available. IIRC, strategic resources are normally valued higher than health/happy resources by the AI - should we try to resign the Stone-Incence deal to get 2 gpt as well?

Is there any reason not to?

Doubtful there is a reason not to, though I always fear the deal would become "not available"...
Main reason not to is if we want to get the deal off before 10 turns of course (like building something with stone....).

I really don't see why not, we're not going to cancel the deal in 10 turns anyway, so I suggest we try to renew that trade at a higher price. It's possible that there will be no higher price, maybe Stone isn't considered as valuable as e.g. Copper, but I don't think there's any harm in trying.
