SGOTM 07 - Smurkz

From the lack of posts for the last 25 hours I gather that everyone is happy with the plan up to CS. Methos has promised to play when he gets home from work tonight. I look forward to reading the update tomorrow morning. :)

I wasn't 100% on the trades, so I stopped after CS but during the anarchy. I have not modified the tiles to their appropriate designation either. The WB is headed towards the fish, but the scout hasn't move. BTW, our total GP is off, but in our favor.

Spoiler for turn log :
Turn 81/460 (850 BC) [20-May-2008 23:57:10]

Turn 82/460 (825 BC) [21-May-2008 00:05:38]
Methos: Odd, our GPP isn't correct with the spreadsheet. SS shows we should have 47, when we have 65.
Beijing finishes: Lighthouse

Here's the 725 BC save. I'll finish my turnset tomorrow night if we are ready.

Of the techs available for trade, only Currency and possibly Calendar (prereq for Astro) is of interest to me. Both Washington and Capac will trade Currency for Lit + CoL, and Washington will throw in 80 gold. Calendar can be had for the same price. In fact, they will also throw in Meditation, but I don't think I want that.

Washington also has MC, and Lizzy has MC and Compass, but neither wishes to "start trading away this technology just yet." If this is because of the Colossus, then we could gift Copper to Washington to improve his build time and hence to lift the trade restriction sooner.

Philosophy must be known to someone somewhere (Taoism founded in 1000BC). But possibly not on our part of the world, as everyone we know is Judaist or Confucianist.

It does not look like we will be able to get to Lib as fast as the plan says. And since we won't, I would put Drama in the tech queue so that we can start on the Globe, and trade away our luxes.

Right now, MC is not tradable because it has not reach the threshold at which the civ stops to see it as a Monopoly (wonder-reason would be something like "we have our own reasons" or equivalent). Of course since monopoly reason are triggered first we may find they do not want to trade it for other reasons AFTER.

Philo might be known to Asoka, since without Med we cannot have it for trade. Other civs would founding Tao would have switched to it as a religion I think. With Med in our pocket, we might see more of what is available on the trading table.

Haven't check the save yet, but I would probably get to Med before trading CS.

Getting drama is clearly an option, two ressources to trade/gift is a good thing. But Globe is expensive....

Haven't had time to check the save, but the turn log looks good. We're well on track! :goodjob:

Good catch on the GPP - it's not surprising when you think about it, we had the same effect with the GLib that we got the GPP already for the turn before the IBT it was built. For the NE the effect is that much bigger, 34 instead of 16. Very nice!

I agree with the assessments both by zyxy and unkle. The plan has to be remade a lot, since our current goals aren't really feasible. Currency which would be very nice to have, that's an extra +4.5 base commerce per turn at this point, and we have absolutely no reason not to trade away CoL + Lit, and the trade Washington offers is really nice. Calendar is of less immediate use, but we will want it sooner or later of course.

I'm less inclined for Drama yet, but we should definitely look at that alternative in our planning. But Meditation first seems the way to go at any rate.

I'll be back with more comments tonight, gotta work some first. :crazyeye:

I have to take the kidlet to the playground -- it's the first warm, sunny day we've had in a while. More fun than working! :) I'll look at the save in a few hours when I get back, but so far the comments seem reasonable.

Renata, not only it is a warm and sunny day for you (here it is a randomly chosen day, not even stormy, just cloudy), but you get to go out and play with your kid...
Dare I say it is not something to tell others stuck in their office ;) ?

Only comforting remark is that at least you do not get to open the save and/or play civ :D

I completely admit to gloating! Kidlet is napping now, so I'll have time to look at the save in a bit, assuming he stays asleep.

Gah, I made a mis-click and actually made a trade with Washington, I don't even remember what was on the table at the time, but I'm sure it was nothing useful. Let me PM AlanH to tell him about it and hopefully he won't make us stick to that. :(

Hmm, that doesn't sound too well...

:please::please:

He said it was ok.

No more checking trade screens for me when it's not my turn. I find myself almost hitting that top option all.the.time. I'm not at all surprised it finally bit me.

Does that mean we should also avoid you playing if there is a chance we could trade ;) ?

Glad AlanH was understing on this. It clearly does NOT bring any more info than what you can get by not trading, but, well

Back to buisness ! I think we agree on getting a quick Med. Is it still the case ?

Phew, thanks a lot AlanH. :)

I still haven't had time to look at the save, will do that shortly.

Does that mean we should also avoid you playing if there is a chance we could trade ?

Yes, probably. :wallbash:

Alright, I finally had a look at the save. Things are looking great so far, and I think it's pretty obvious that we should get Currency + 80 gp for Lit+CoL with Washington. So I would suggest we do that first, note how good our second trade route is, and make some new spreadsheets based on that. We should have a second trade route at +3 commerce though, since we're now size 10 and not dependent on the sizes of the target towns. But I'll believe it for sure when I see it. After that I think a quick Meditation yes. After that it's still wide open.

I wonder what XTeam and Misfits did to have their score graphs race like that. Trade like crazy? :hmm:

Do the trade, end anarchy and continue discussion.
