SGOTM 07 - Smurkz

Are there any units in those galleys? In vanilla, you can tell by hovering the mouse over them.

Is our scout in a position to see anything of what Caesar's land units might be doing?

Really? Whew, in that case we should be pretty safe, no there are no units in them. He could still pillage our seafood of course, but if he was really gearing for war then would he send so meager a strike force?

Our scout is positioned in HC land, which is the only route that Caesar could reach us via land, since he has no OB with Washington. He sees no units.

Should we gift Caesar some tech to try to placate him? He might be Toku's worst enemy, but no one else's. And he lacks a bunch of techs, like Drama and Literature.

Thinking further, if he has no units on those ships then the worst he could do is to pillage our sea resources. We can't stop him from taking the Fish and Crabs, but if he declares then we should be able to pump out a fast Caravel next turn, with the help of the forest chop, to stop him from reaching the inner sanctum. Worst case we lose some growth.

I propose that I play on, gift Drama and Literature to Caesar, possibly Philosophy as well (he also lacks CS and Optics) if the former two don't get him to Cautious.

Wow.
Danger Brewing

Whats is the situation diplo wise?
Can we not ask someone to go to war with ceaser, or are we trying to win him over?
looking over the last 11 pages now! hehehe

GNE

Yes, we're trying to win him over. And no, the only one who would even consider attacking Caesar is Asoka, and we have nothing valuable enough to give him for it. If Caesar attacks us we might consider asking him for it though.

Another interesting thing to note - KK is gearing up for war ("We have enough on our hands right now"), which incidentally Caesar doesn't say. So unless he's planning a spur-of-the-moment sneak attack, we should be safe. I'm feeling a lot better now anyway. Can I play on?

I'd be ok with it.

Hope KK's target isn't us. :p

I had a look in the source code to be sure. The denial computations for asking someone to declare war aren't parametrized on whether you're the victim or not. So if Caesar intended to attack us, he would say "We have enough on our hands right now", no caveats.

I too hope that we're not KK's target. But I also hope that Washington isn't, which unfortunately seems very likely.

I'll play on in a short while.

Back from Geekway to the West (boardgame convention). Played lots of great games. If you haven't tried Stone Age yet, I recommend it.

Everything looks ok to me except the impending KK attack on Washington. I don't think there's much we can do about that.

I would think we might want to build a market and bank, so Banking seems a good tech.

Market and bank don't do anything for us right now, I don't think. Don't they just work on the proportion of your commerce that's going for cash? And that's 0% right now and presumably for a while yet. And the other effect of a market is increasing happy, which we don't need.

>>The Save<<

Another plan well conceived and executed! And look at that score graph go!

I'll edit in the turnlog here, need to fix up some of the screenshots first. But things are looking good, even though there are a few minor worries. :)

SWEEEEET!

Highest score for our year!

But little tackle these minor worries.

Minor cuts later become infected, which may well lead to amputations! and we wouldn't want that would we team! :p:lol:

What are the disadvantages of gifting something to KK?

Can we improve relations any other way?

Have we planned an army build yet?

Does our power rating affect us at all at this point, or is it bais towards attitude?

(catching up on reading team, Gomen)

That is so awesome that we were first to Liberalism. In 25BC! I love it. Between that and persisting with a 1-warrior defense into the ADs, whatever happens with the rest of this game, you can't say that we didn't do some interesting things with it.

I assume the score graph is due to us having a lot of tech success relative to the other teams, because I can't think of anything else we've been doing that would account for it.

I have the save ("got it") and should have time to look at it this afternoon. I'm guessing we have a fair amount of discussing to do before I play.

Yep, tech success is the major reason for our score. We have score 825, 458 of that is due to techs, 130 to wonders, 147 to population and 90 due to land area. The two latter categories are probably similar across all teams, but the former two is what likely sets us apart.

And I agree - having a BC Liberalism->Astronomy sling, at frikkin' Deity(!!!), that's enough to make my day. :D

Good going!

I propose to build the two monasteries right after the WB. After that, aqueduct, and then Observatory.

We can send stone to Elizabeth, and in a few turns we have iron and whale to send to Capac and Washington for example. Then, cancel the copper supply to Washington and send it somewhere else.

Researching PP looks like the best choice. After that, perhaps Nationalism -> Constitution? Gunpowder is an alternative but has little immediate uses.
I hope that the AI will get Guilds soon, then we can research Banking and Economics for the free GM and Free Market.

A completely different route is to train an army to take out Alex. A handful of maces and a few cats should be enough as he doesn't have longbows yet. His lands would likely be taken over by Lizzy, Washington or Capac, which is not too bad.

And yet another completely different idea is to research Nationalism and build the Taj Mahal for more culture and an extra (temporary) boost of hammers and commerce.

Personally, I favor the "build an army and eliminate the annoying AI who won't vote for us" plan. I haven't done a detailed analysis, but my intuition tells me that giving our friends the opportunity to expand is a good thing - as long as we don't end up with our best friend as our UN opponent.
