Regeneration In Process
OOC: In case I have not made it clear; Merenel Eruiyond ("the Magister" is just what most people call him, because it seems appropriate given his knowledge and his library) does not even hold any significant formal titles, and de jure has very limited connections to the government; he simply happens to possess a high degree of informal influence thanks to his various connections and possibly some other things. Though I suppose that, being savvy merchants, the Venetians may very well have recognised that he is a useful person to know.
IC:
From: Fein II, King of Malthen
To: Aurel, King of Venetia
Greetings and good wishes.
The warning you have sent us has incited apprehension amongst myself, my court and my ministers. There are many grave tidings from all land corners of the world, and now there are grave tidings from the seas as well! That is unfortunate, but I still thank you for informing us of this strange new peril.
I would very much appreciate any further information on those strange happenings, for even though Malthen is indeed an inland kingdom currently, the sea is not far away, and if the sea is not so much a stream of commerce as a staging ground for raids and invasions, then it gravely concerns us all.
On our part, we must note that the Orcs grow in number and strength to the south of us. They have organised themselves into a kingdom and threaten to march upon nearby lands. Ost-Letha withstood an Orc siege once, in the end of the Second Age; we shall be able to do so again. Still, it seems as though those sea-creatures threaten us from the east at just the same time as the Orcs threaten us from the south; it may very well be that we shall have to fight back to back - you covering us on the side of the sea, and we covering you on the side of the land.
May the bonds between our peoples be ever strong.
