I have a problem with barbarians. For some reason, barbarian villages are not producing any units. Each one seems to create just one unit - the basic barbarian type - which then sits there. No further units seem to appear at all, meaning that barbarians don't pose any threat to anyone. I can't work out why this is, as I've specified which units are to be built and everything. Does anyone know of any weird factors which might have this effect?

No, nothing like that.

[EDIT] After lots of testing, I'm still not exactly sure what the problem is, but I have found that pre-placing lots of barbarian units in the camps encourages them to be marginally more proactive. I suppose this is just a consequence of the gelding of barbarians that happened with whatever patch it was.

Initially, the Barbarians do seem to stay rather sedentary but later in the game when they have their 2nd Upgraded Unit, they will come out to "play". IF your game has very little "un-owned" land areas and the Barbarians are not many, this can effect them too.

If you want your barbarians more active, make sure that you add the following line to your Conquests.ini file (in the main Civ 3 Conquests folder):

NoAIPatrol=0

In Vanilla Civ 3 and PTW, this defaulted to 0, but for some reason in Conquests, it defaults to 1, which means that the barbarians just sit around scratching their butts, unless a unit enters a square immediately next to them... There was a thread around here about barbarians, but I can't recall where, that explains this whole mess further.

Also, setting a unit as available to "barbarian chiefdom" in the units editor just means that if the unit is available to you, and you've researched the requisite technology, that unit will pop from a goody hut.... Handy for getting something besides warriors out of huts on those screw-ball archipelago or islands maps that have those 2-3 islands that are out in the middle of nowhere with one or two goody huts on them that don't get popped until the early industrial age. :lol:

Here is a link to that thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=100704
