G-Major 37

Well, my top secret plan is going as planned, although it's 710AD and I haven't killed anyone yet. Just about to...

I missed Major36, even though it was my favourite VC, just because I hated the speed (Mara).

So now I felt complelled to play this one, even if it is a warmongers game, just because it is Quick speed.:crazyeye:

Terra, Zara. AH-Whee-HBR. Barr+stabl in 2 cities. Kill Musa first, puaj, skirms. Fail Oracle for 6 turns, 700BC, puaj. Pause for Lib-Acad-bulb. Alpha-Machi-Curr-Feud. REV:HR+Vass+Serf in 400AD, 2,5 killed. Guilds600AD, 9%land, ruined; PolSta, Optics 900AD,14%. Nobility quest. They get Feud 1000aD, 18%. 1250AD,tired, Mer+Repr+Cast to autoresearch Astro. (Arg, could have revolted on GAge), then pop Astro 2t soon, puaj! 1400AD, 32%.Conquered all but 2 island cities, all gold. Settle 40 cities without even optimizing, 80 settlers rest unused, 2GA rest unused, win before 1500AD.

Carrying Scouts to the new world in order to pop Astro is a mistake. It is much quicker to just research or bulb Astro immediately after Optics.
My balance war versus research was mistaken, I could have got a conquest victory much sooner than my domination victory.

So for the ones still trying (I am not spending another 20 hours moving units in a huge map), I recommend going straight for Astro after HBR.

Organized is useless, I never built a single cottage and I was never in real money problems. Portugal or Mongolia look like the best bet. No Pyramids nor specialist either. Mine was a money-taken-from-city-captures economy.

Note: all my comments apply to Terra maps only. I guess an Inland Sea might be more straightforward than Terra. I'd recommend Egypt instead of Justy... but, what do I know about warmongering anyway?:)

Not going to play Huge maps, but just my 2 cents

Get a Pangea or any one-piece land, get Darius or Cyrus (for Imp settlers), spawn Immortals, wipe off the land size you need for Dom, insert settlers.

Alternative: Terra, no barbs, Joao. Clean up the land you need to produce enough settlers at home, get optics, populate New World. At quick this might be quite competitive with warmongering.

Immortals bog down WAY too soon on quick, IMO. I thought about the terra thing but as of yet haven't managed to beat my 1770 AD finish that involved little beyond keshik spam.

Sounds like a good game Jesusin. My top secret plan isn't going as well as your game, Izzy on Warlords, Oracle Feudalism, research guilds. I'm pwning the AI though but a bit too slow I think. We'll see after I get cavs anyway.

EDIT: I confused Jesusin for TMIT!!!

I think this would be too slow due to travel times to the new world. Researching Astro and getting 3x the number of settlers carried each trip should be faster, IMHO.

I don't think so.
Failed to Oracle Machinery. Put too much effort on war and too little on getting to the new world. Too many settlers and GA unused. I would have got 80% of the land in 2 more turns.
I think I could save 400 years if I tried again. Settler on a PH would help even further. Popping HBR from a hut could be huge, too.

the immortals are good enough for two civs. After that, use horse archers for your next wave, then knights.

That means you submitted a pre-1500 finish?

Good job, i doubt i can beat that.

@jesusin
My point, I see no difference in turns for a city to come out of resistance at quick versus marathon speed. Seems like a bug to me.

There is plenty of unscaled effects in Civ: turns to get diplo + and -, peace duration, horde of other instances. Live with it.

Grrrrrr, beat in the final week. I might try to bump myself back into the top 3 at least, but I'm not sure I want to. I'm trying to get Immortal EQM and I've gotten 1/2 way there in 1 week . I have all but 2 of the maps, all but time victory, all speeds, and about half the civs done. Rock of ages will be pretty easy, so the real challenge is getting all the civs before the update.

Of course I'll still not have EQM till I get that level in the gauntlets, but nonetheless I may just grind out some more civs before the update (and get that elusive time win, which I had in the bag until I got a system crash ), to try to get most of the legs out of the way.

Q score? 'Twill be awful, I think.

I've gained research power lately (as a player), so I MIGHT take another shot at this though. Getting cuirassers early enough via lib might let me win in the 1500's at least.

Oh, I see, sorry about the misunderstanding.

Yes, many things don't scale correctly with speeds. That's part of the reason Quick so difficult and Marathon is so easy.

I started calling it a bug too, but version after version and patch after patch, the "bugs" have been kept, so I think it might be intentional. Some of the worst factors are the time it takes to a settler to reach its destination and the % of the time a worker is working. These are clearly designed like that, not bugs.

Can you imagine a Marathon peace treaty lasting 45 turns? That's the equivalent of what it lasts in Quick!

Yeah! Like culture for Legendary on Quick, you peace-loving peace-lovers...

OCC quick permanent alliance. Yay for easy "everything but conquest/domination" games!
Culture. Three Legendary cities. Think again. ;)

All in all, I do not see OCC much useful for anything quickest except Diplo, and Termitnik in recent Immortal Major has shown that it also can be beaten by multicity approach.

Well my Isabella/Warlords plan isn't going too well, although I think it has potential. Mehmed had Grenadiers before I had cavalry so something went wrong there ;) I should still win although it will be a late one, at least it should get Spain on my list of wins.
