You thought wrong dude!
Buford.JPG

I fail to see how I thought wrong, when I didnt even SEE this thread until it was posted with a link on the other thread..... couldnt think about something I didnt know existed yet.

Oh and I get the whole Mad Dog Buffor Tannen thing, but hah you could of picked a better line like 'You egg-sucking gutter-trash!'

I just meant that your phrase "you assumed wrong" sounded as categorical and strict as that of Bifford Tannen.

United States of America

While the United States economy grew tremendously during the Weltkrieg, with American banks and factories supplying the Entente war effort, the 1920s were disastrous. The military and political collapse of France and Britain meant that any American investments or loans to these two countries were irrecoverably lost. German dominance over world trade ensured that America was progressively forced out of markets in Europe, Africa, Asia and even parts of South America. A slow but inexorable economic decline ensued, followed by an increasingly vicious social conflict.

Up until now, the two party system has been held in place, with both Democrats and Republicans maintaining the support of American industry and big business, and with any extremist groups being fragmented and disunited. However, the inefficient second term of President Hoover’s Presidency has seen a significant shift in the political constellation of America. Two grand coalitions have formed, one uniting the forces of the populist and technocratic right, and the other the revolutionary left, and are both mobilizing to fight for their own man to become the 32nd President of the United States in 1936…

During the Presidential Elections of 1936, Herbert Hoover is to step down, and his Vice President, Charles Curtis is to run for the Presidency as the Republican Candidate, with Frank Knox as his running mate. John Nance Garner, supported by Henry A. Wallace, is the candidate for the Democrats.

The America First-Union Party has selected Huey Long, Governor of Louisiana, as its candidate. With its support primarily coming from the depressed agricultural regions of the South and Mid-West, the new party combines traditional populism with neo-capitalist modes of organization, demanding redistribution of wealth and social welfare, but within a strong centralized corporatist economic structure, controlled by a paternalistic economic and political elite.

The Combined Syndicates of America are led by Jack Reed, who was turned into a savvy political operator during his time in Russia during its revolution and civil war. Uniting various shades of socialist, syndicalist and communist opinion, the CSA have mobilized the surging throngs of workers in America's industrial heartlands.

All sides are currently organizing for the elections, and are restraining their supporters from resorting to violence. But, should the result not move in their favor, the two radical parties have both built formidable voluntarist and paramilitary organizations, which could quickly replace the authority of the Federal Government in their areas of dominance. Likewise, unlike the rest of the country, California and the Western States have prospered, largely thanks to maritime trade with Russia and Japan, and so would be unwilling to submit to any overly radical programme. And the views of the military regarding this potential impending social collapse are at present unclear…

Will the Union survive the crisis years of 1936 and 1937? Will political a new order in America arise to end almost a century and a half of constitutional government? Or will a second civil war, even more bloody and catastrophic than the first, tear the world’s last great Republic apart?

Sorry to the players expecting an update today.

Apparently, 3/4 of you have not read the rules on technology spending.

You may ONLY USE HALF of your public spending and private enterprise/government investment IC on technology research. Round up.

This time, I'll forgive it and do the work for you. Next time, :mwaha:

On a happier note, I have most of the orders required to do an update.

Orders are due tomorrow, right?

Update 2: The World is Madness!
January 9th, 1936 - February 1st, 1936

European News:

GERMAN EDUCATION REFORM BILL HALTED: The 'Schulreformkonferenz' meeting was brought to a standstill as the education bureau could not decide on one of four major types of education. There have been advocates of teaching Germany's Royal Dynasties, German ancient roots, local history and customs, or Greek civility, as the main point of history focus. Until this issue is resolved, there will be no much-needed education reform.

COMMUNE OF FRANCE GEARS FOR WAR, CITIZENS PISSED: When the Commune of France invaded the Italian Federation (See Spotlight), they had to gear for war. However, the Commune of France decided to take away from Government Investment and Public Spending to supplement Military needs. This has caused a severe lack of funding for healthcare and education, with about 40% of all rural schools having to be closed, as well as a removal of most extracurricular activities. Hospitals had to close, which ironically added to the amount of casualties the French sustained in the battles. This negligent behavior has prompted several riots around France, with some Nationalist French partisan groups taking over small towns.

SPANISH PROTESTS CRUSHED BY FORCE: In Spain, the Carlist revolts were crushed with military forces as the government deemed them too much of a threat. The area around Bilbao was rife with partisan activity, but was cleansed. The areas around Oviedo are still, as of yet, under Carlist control. Army attacks there have merely condensed the Carlists enough to pose a serious threat to Oviedo. The CNT-FAI protests were broken up by the police, which caused only a few wounded protesters. The recent turmoil in Spain has worried the international community. Ireland has already been pushed towards supporting the Carlists due to their Catholic population. It is quite possible that the Union of Britain and the Commune of France might intervene with the CNT-FAI. Mittleeuropa's interests in Morocco are threatened if Spain falls. Indeed, it is not a good age for Spain.

RUSSIA TAKEN OVER BY MILITARY OFFICERS: Petr Wrangel has become the new leader of Russia today, following the assassination of former President Kerensky. When word of this broke out, the population started riots, believing the military should not be combined with the government. However, when Wrangel chose the more popular lackey general Andrei Vlasov, some protests ceased. Police were needed to crush some riots, which gave way to more dissent. Overall however, Russia is better off with a leader than none.

DENMARK FEAR NORWEGIAN INVASION, POPULACE UNCONVINCED: Danish officials tried to rally support for expanding the army with the populace of Denmark, citing fear of Norwegian invasion. However, due to the neutrality of the region and close ties with all nations, the Danish populace did not believe this. While Denmark's government did not cite any particular nation, the press believes it would be either Norway or Sweden. Despite this, the populace generally agrees the army should be expanded a small amount, for they believe one infantry division isn't enough to guarantee security.

SWEDEN POPULACE OVERWHELMINGLY AGAINST SYNDICALISM: In a recent poll by the Swedish government, 78% of the populace was against Syndicalism. It is unknown why this poll was conducted, or why the populace is overwhelmingly against Syndicalism, but it is believe that Sweden's conservative government fears a takeover by trade unions. Luckily for them, this data shows otherwise. The same cannot be said for Norway, which has close ties to the Union of Britain.

SPOTLIGHT: INTERNATIONALE COMMUNE INVADES ITALIAN FEDERATION-

On January 14, 1936, the Commune of France and Republic of the Sicilies cooperated in a joint military operation against the Italian Federation, in order to unify the peninsula under a Syndicalist government. The battles were extremely fierce, and will be explained in further detail.
(-2% dissent for all warring nations)

FRENCH ATTACK: The French used an extremely new and experimental tactic, known as 'Foudre de Guerre', literally, lightning warfare. This tactic states that rapid movement is required to encircle and crush the enemy, mainly using motorized infantry and armor. Since this was a new concept, France initially took many losses. However, the tactic prevailed due to flanking attacks and the Italians not knowing what to do. The result was a rapid retreat towards the Po River, with the French capturing back Nice and Grenoble. However, the line eventually stabilized around Milan and Genoa. It seems likely that this area will be in a stalemate.
(Casualties:
France: 4 infantry divisions, 1 light tank division, 1 cavalry division
Italian Federation: 3 infantry divisions)

SICILIAN ATTACK: The Republic of the Sicilies did not use the French tactics, but the already tried infantry assaults. This was not the most ideal tactic in the Apennine Mountains. The Sicilians did manage to push into Anzio, but it is now tied down with urban warfare. The Italian Federation had a shining victory at Monte Cassino, where the chapel was converted into a fortress. Repeated assaults by Sicilians were defeated, with the defending Italians outnumbered 4 to 1. Bombing the fortifications around Cassino are out of the question for the Sicilians, if they want to maintain popular support.
(Casualties:
Italian Federation: 1 infantry division
Republic of the Sicilies: 1 infantry division)

BATTLE OF TYRRHENIAN SEA: The Sicilian and French navies met with the Italian Federation's navy in the Tyrrhenian Sea, just near Naples. The battle started when the Italian navy saw the Sicilian navy leave port. As the attack began, a nearby French fleet attacked. The result was one of the largest naval battles fought in these waters. Due to overwhelming firepower, the Italian navy was forced to retreat. However, they managed to inflict numerous casualties on the Sicilian fleet.
(Casualties:
France: 1 light vessel group
Italian Federation: 1 battleship, 1 light vessel group
Republic of the Sicilies: 1 battleship, 1 escort group)

INTERNATIONAL CONDEMNATION: The international community were not kind on the Syndicalists. Austria-Hungary, who had interests in the region, quickly canceled all trade deals with the Republic of the Sicilies, as well as numerous ones with the Commune of France. Switzerland, famous for its neutrality, condemned the action and called up some reservists for defense, but did no other consequential action. National France was outraged, as always about the spread of Syndicalism. Portugal decided to prevent any Commune of France warships from entering its waters.

Update Part Two to come...

American News:

KING GEORGE V DEAD, EDWARD VIII IS KING: King George V, beloved by loyalists in the former British Empire, died after a lethal dose of morphine and cocaine administered in his bed by his physician Lord Dawson on January 20. Dawson said he wished to stop his suffering for him and his family. George V's health had already deteriorated after the First World War, when he was depressed by the outcome and started chain smoking. He had also suffered many respiratory problems previously. This led to him being restricted to his bed in Ottawa, Canada after the Syndicalists took over the British Isles. His son, Edward has taken the throne. The Entente have gone into a state of mourning, as Edward VIII now has to decide the best course for his nation.

LA PLATA WAREHOUSE EXPLODES, UNKNOWN CAUSE: A warehouse in Buenos Aires exploded along the waterfront of the Plate River. It is unknown what caused the explosion, but it is believed a bomb was the cause. The warehouse was filled with mostly wooden planks. The explosion killed 23 nearby civilians and injured over 50. La Plata authorities have mounted an investigation, but have no current leads on the case.

REVOLT IN CHICAGO: A Syndicalist protest in Chicago quickly turned into a riot as several American First Union Party members began hurling stones at the protesters. The AFUP is another major independent party that advocates stronger federal leadership, which would be considered fascism. The AFUP supporters then began club Syndicalists. When the police arrived to control the riot, Syndicalists began to swarm the police officers and disarm them. Eventually, a gunfight broke out. AFUP supporters used torches to burn several stores down in order to cover their retreat. Eventually, more police managed to keep the situation under control. This incident has sparked more minor protests around the nation, condemning the Syndicalists, AFUP, and government alike. The overall casualty report is 13 police officers, 30 Syndicalists, and 12 AFUS supporters dead, as well as over 80 wounded. Property damage is still being calculated. Jack Reed has not been blamed for the riot, as he had no affiliation with this particular Syndicalist group. However, Huey Long, leader of the AFUP and one of the presidential candidates in the 1936 election, has been blamed, due to his speeches against Marxism.

CARIBBEAN FEDERATION COMMONWEALTH BANK ESTABLISHED: The Caribbean Federation's first government bank has finally been established in Georgetown. The reasons for this were to garner more money for the nation, as well as reform the ailing financial situation there. This has restored some confidence in the Caribbean's economic situation, which has led to more investment in the nation.

African/Middle Eastern News:

OTTOMANS CELEBRATE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF SULTAN'S CROWNING: Abdul Mejid II has recently celebrated his 10th anniversary of being Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. It was an exuberant celebration, with a huge parade in Istanbul, as well as many ceremonies and such. This extravagant celebration was open to all people, whom have mostly stopped their bickering for one day and just party out. As a result, some citizens were won over by the Sultan, decreasing dissent.

NATIONAL FRANCE CENSUS?: Some bright guy in the National France Economy Bureau has put forward a proposition for a census of the National French territory, stretching from Algiers to the Ivory Coast, including most villages in the vast desert. This may help tax collections, as well as labor allocations. It may take some time and money, but the rewards would be pretty decent. The only problem with this is required National French governmental approval, which may sink the plan or allow funding.

Asian News:

QING EMPIRE CELEBRATES NEW YEAR, PU YI TO DIRECT NATIONAL POLICY: As the Qing Empire celebrate the New Year of the Rat, it falls on Pu Yi to announce to the nation about policy directives. Some citizens are hopeful for change and reformation of China, while some believe this is a mere dream caused by old fools. There is critical need to reform the civilian government as well as the army, but that course may be problematic to Qing Empire conservative loyalists. However, right now is a time for celebration.

JAPAN BEGINS MILITARY EXPANSION, TAKES HARD STANCE AGAINST HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS IN CHINA: Japan's Ministry of Information has recently released a statement about Human Rights Advocates in China, stating that they are 'individualistic anarchists seeking to destroy powerful and stalwart nationalism' and that they are also 'syndicalist scum aiming to annihilate the brilliance that is the Japanese empire'. These statements have whipped up Chinese nationalists into a frenzy, with some partisan activity in the Fengtien Republic. Also, Japan has been gearing up for war, as their military has expanded by 4 infantry divisions. Mainland Chinese and Russians have been worried by these actions, for what some see to be preparations for invasion. The Japanese public's response is also worrying to them, they seem to be clamoring for war.

MONGOLIA MOBILIZES: After stating their intent to reunify all of Mongolia, the Mongolian army has mobilized on the border of Xibei San Ma and Qing China. However, it is believed that they will not invade China, for they are too powerful to take on right now. Nonetheless, the actions are worrying, for a belligerent Mongolia is not a very controllable Mongolia.

Spoiler :

I have the orders I need to do the update. The only problem is, instead of people ignoring technology rules, they are ignoring upkeep...

Crezth, I'm looking in your direction. :p

I'm beginning the update now. :)

Should I take that to mean that IC is used up for upkeep? If so I am dreadfully sorry; I must have misunderstood upkeep rules.

Are we really doing this month by month? Can't we do at least 6 months or something?

Yes, that's more agreeable to.

Also, why are warehouses exploding randomly?
