Ruff08 - The AI Shuffle

And so the rise of the greatest nation in the world starts with just a single step. We settle where the gods have put us and decide to name our small community Paris - such a grand name that it will bring people from around the world just to look at it. I instruct the wize people to learn stuff, important stuff like how to cook meat. Cooking is important - and cooking meat is even more so.

Tech: Animal Husbandry

Paris starts to build a slave ... errr ... worker to do my bidding ... errr, so that I can have someone smaller than me ... errr, to help our great nation grow.

The puny warrior is sent away because he smells. He does find some money (92 gold) so I might have him take a bath and come back later. Much later.

T4: We meet Hammurabi (-2 because he is not French [-1] and he thinks we are small [-1]) to our East. He looks close by.

T5: We meet Boudica (0 because she is not French [-1], she is a woman [+1], she scares me [-1] and France has always had a soft spot for the celts [+1]). She is also in the East but more North than Hammurabi

T10: Our smelly warrior finds another who is willing to join our growing kingdom (scout).

T12: We start to contemplate the stars and research myticism - and I like than this nation might build a monument to my circular thinking.

T13: The smelly warrior is getting smellier - as he learns Horse back riding from a group of natives. I have no idea what a horse is but, apparently, SM knows how to ride one.

The lazy work is finally finished so I send him out to herd cows then farm the corn.

T17: We meet Isabella (0 because she is not French [-1] but she is a woman [+1]) - no idea where she is
T17: We meet Zara Yaqob (0 because he is not French [-1] but he thinks I am tall [+1]) - way West

T19: We meet Elizabeth (-3 because he is not French [-1] but she is a woman [+1], however, she is English and for some reason I hate the English [-3]) - way west

We also discover mystism (start mining) and pop hunting from a hut. Our scout survives some animal attacks and then pops experience - promoted to Woodsman II.

T22: We meet Roosevelt (-2 because he is not French [-1] and he looks down his nose at me [-1]) - South West

And that brings me to the end of my set. No BUG log as I just d/l the latest BUG and it is 'off' by default. Silly me forgot to turn it on. Some pics of our land ...

Current Situation
  • Paris is finishing its barracks - I forgot to build a unit after worker but I am going to argue that the barracks is equivalent to a unit but our next build must be a real unit
  • Tech is set to Archery as per AI suggestion - prob should let if finish so we can build some fog busting archers
  • No horses in easy reach
  • Elephant!! to the East
  • Scout is healing (2)
  • Warrior is in North scouting
  • Worker is on his way to hill to mine

Attitudes
  • Hammurabi: Cautious (-2 because he is not French [-1] and he thinks we are small [-1]) to our East. He looks close by.
  • Boudica: Cautious (0 because she is not French [-1], she is a woman [+1], she scares me [-1] and France has always had a soft spot for the celts [+1])
  • Isabella: Cautious (0 because she is not French [-1] but she is a woman [+1])
  • Zara Yaqob: Cautious (0 because he is not French [-1] but he thinks I am tall [+1])
  • Elizabeth: Cautious (-3 because he is not French [-1] but she is a woman [+1], however, she is English and for some reason I hate the English [-3])
  • Roosevelt: Cautious (-2 because he is not French [-1] and he looks down his nose at me [-1])
  • Other AI: Cautious (-2 because he is not French [-1] and he hasn't shown his face yet [-1])

Suggestions
A bit difficult given my own game plans but Stonehenge is open. I played 25 turns and stopped at a logical place. Play approximately 15 turns (+/-2) but don't stop 1 turn short of Bronze working (for example).

BTW - all of these leaders were random. Actually pretty pleased with who we have as the relationships will prove interesting.

you can but that might be a bit hard - I've already finished researching it :D

I think Boudica should get a '-10': "Bibracte is actually in France, you must die"... kidding :D

Well let's see where is the copper and build us some warriors Rolo, "La grande armée" should be started

hmm - wikipedia says that Boudica was queen of a district in East England. No where near the celts. Maybe Napoleon is just confused - that can happen.

BW bronze working is an option. I would suggest pumping out a settler (for the ivory) and then think about stonehenge. Are these suggestions not in the spirit of the game? It is soooo difficult not to plan ahead.

I can't believe we didn't build a single scout... Don't you realize how important they are!? We can alway chop their legs a little if they get too cocky with their long feet and 2 movement points.

Great job on choosing the Archery though... :)

@Ruff - Why did you settle in place and not on the blue circle?
how often do you see an AI delaying its capital. I hardly ever see that so I acted just like the AI.

Dotmap? I was thinking one south west of phants for the cows or one west of the phants to share the corn with Paris... wait... blue circles obvioulsy!

 are we allowed to dotmap in this game? I've been thinking about it and couldn't come up with an answer. I guess that we let the game tell us where it thinks we should settle.

Personally, I like 1 SW of phants too, lots of plains hills, phants in first ring and cows later. A nice military pump site.

It will lack food waiting for biology though...

true but the cow will allow us to work 1 plains mine - guess we try and farm the other grasslands to work the others. However, it does secure us the ivory which I feel is critical. War elephants rock!

not a double post - a triple!

I agree I would settle it too together with a city grabbing copper if possible, then relations would probably be bad enough with Hammurabi that we can allow us a Dow :D

Nice triple post...

Can I sense some forward thinking here or what? :p

But yeah, we should go for the phants and trust that what Napoleon would do is the best course of action :)

As I am up in 3 SGs ( quite a while.... :/ ) and my lil sis has her birthday party tomorrow ( meaning that I won't have time to do anything remotely useful ), I'll try to be brief.....

First, Mr Ruff, can we add a modifier againt the Americans? Well, they are Americans and us French :D and they have a better start than us :( :

I decided to stop when we finished our first settler ( also recommended by the AI ). See the wise counsel of the blue circles:

I don't think I had made a human action in this set. Can I have 2 in next one ? :D
