Night of the Werewolves XXII: The Road to Ruin (Game Thread)

Morning, Day 4

The men woke up and began the usual routine of waiting for the cook to finish playing with his rifle and instead make some grub. Joining the line at the makeshift food tent was D'Artagnan59, who was untied that morning and Methos, who during the night had the fortune to be healed. After chowing down some bacon and eggs, Methos and few other squad mates thought it a good idea to go over and check on Bigfoot to see how his recovery was going.

What they found shocked everyone. Bigfoot was lying face up in the bloodied cot, a pair of bullet holes in his previously shredded legs and one in the temple for good measure. It was all too obvious that he hadn’t made it through the night.

Spoiler :
Bigfoot3814 was a loyalist!

As a few prepared a grave for their fallen comrade, some others searched through his belongings for anything of importance. Finding the crucial Map, a new man was going to be needed to safeguard this vital piece of information. Without it, the squad was lost.

Speaking of the map, before his untimely demise Bigfoot had found three possible routes to the extraction point, all with their merits and demerits. Outlined in three separate colors with notes along side, Nico thought it best to let the squad determine the route they would take tomorrow. Clearing his throat, he addressed the men.

“After today’s march has ended we’ll be at a point where we can take one of three different routes to get to the extraction point.”

“Option 1 is the quickest route to the rendezvous. It also happens to be the most dangerous by cutting through insurgent territory. It will shave a day off our time to get to the extraction zone, but another ambush along the way is all but guaranteed.”

“Option 2 takes us through a valley to the extraction. While taking this route does not add or subtract any time, there’s a chance that insurgents can hide in the hills surrounding us and ambush us along the way. There’s no guarantee we’ll be attacked, but no guarantee we’ll be safe either.”

“Option 3 is the longest route, but also the safest. By going this way, we’ll be far enough away from insurgent centers of activity and will most likely not be attacked by them. However, because this takes us fairly off course it will add a day to our travel time.”

“So during today’s march we shall vote on what route we would like to take so by the time we get to the ‘fork in the road’ we’ll know what leg to take. Keep in mind that we have roughly eight days left until we reach the extraction point as it is. Gather your gear, let’s get moving.”

The men returned to their tents to dismantle them as thoughts poured through their heads. Now more than ever, the decisions they made today would impact the whole squad for the remainder of the trip. This was not a responsibility to be taken lightly.

“Oh yea,” Nico added. “Another vote on the Wire Cutters today. Let’s see if we can find them a new home before sundown, okay?”

It is now day!

Best to be goin' through the valley. Losin' a day ain't worth not gettin no shrapnel but neither should none of us go lookin for a fight in the condition we're in. Not so many medpacs now...

And it don't matter really who has the map. We'll all get a chance to look at it right, ain't that right mr scout

Got last turn's scan FINALLY. Renata is not Rouge. I am not Rouge, and Bigfoot is not rouge. HQ informed me Rouge=/=Loyalists for some reason.

Well, gee, thanks so very much, Charles Li.

Charles, perhaps it would be better if you just kept who you scanned to yourself and people you have scanned? Just a thought to keep more good people alive.

The wire cutters can go to Renata. I vote for Path 2 as well.

I don't believe in taking half-measures. With insurgent attacks slowing us down, options 1 and 2 probably wouldn't be any quicker anyway. I prefer Option 3.

Awwright, this is some bad news. Navigator's down.

But come on guys, we can do this!

First, da map. I really think I should take it. Would be a smart move, yeah? Know where we're headin', and all that.

Second, I think we should speed our way to the extraction point. So dat's the quick way, right through insurgent territory. I know now you're thinkin', "Hey man, you're like, crazy!" but hold on to your horses. If we know for sure we'll be in danger, we'll probably be, safer. 'Cause, and I'm probably going to get screwed over for this, but I ain't gonna make baseless promises, so here goes: I can call in some air support. I didn't call it last time 'cause there was no hint of an attack, but if we venture into dangerous territory, I'll have good reason to call it in.

I agree with Chandrasekhar. One day without insurgent attacks would be more beneficial than possibly being bogged down with more due to attacks.

I vote for option Three Also it's pretty clear our own D'Artagnan isn't werewolf, but until Charles Li stops shouting the innocents names... He's sending them to sertain death one by one, lets kill him instead until he kills more people or he maybe can just tell us when he get a guilty one and shut up until the person in question is really in the pit?

Specialist Renata lives for battle. There's nothing like the feeling when the bullets start flying and Big Tom is chattering and the bodies start to fall. It's a very ... clarifying feeling. And he feels it now.

He stalks over to where J-man is marching along, munching on an energy bar. The man might be Renata's superior officer, but Renata's not showing any deference. He looms even more than usual.

So you're not gonna vote for me anymore, then. Well, isn't that nice for you. You going to explain the last two days, then ... sir?

When J-man doesn't answer, "Big Tom" turns to the group at large. But he's moving closer and closer to Charles Li.

I'll take the wire-cutters. You may need to vote on them again tomorrow, though. See if you can find someone trustworthy, will you?

And as for you ...

Specialist Renata swings around so that Big Tom, on his shoulder, points straight at Charles Li's nose. His hand is half an inch or so from the trigger.

You told me something very interesting just now. How's about you tell me what that means in private, in detail real fast now. Or I might just take it upon myself to kill you myself.

OOC: Really busy week, I'm sorry for the inactivity.
Also, stop saying Rouge. It means red. Or makeup. Rogue is the word you want.

IC: Well, I think that, obviously, the items should go to those who can use 'em. A Specialist can use 'em.
If LightFang is sure the air support will be protectin' us, it makes sense ta take the Quick way.

As for who to bind to join me, I think rhawn has been silent awhile.

I think that LightFang can definately use the map the most, so he should have it. As for the wire-cutters, D'Artagnan59 can have them. I'll need a little time to decide which path to take, though. I'll get back to that as soon as I've made my decision.

Silent? Last night I was bagged up and interrogated by someone. How's that for quiet? Look at these track marks on my arm. I was drugged, interrogated, and then dragged back here before I regained consciousness. I don't remember what I told them except my name and rank. With one of our own killing us and dragging us off in the night, we cannot afford to waste another day, quick route it is. I think Lightfang will make the best use of the map but I don't think Renata will have any use for the wirecutters, I bet D'Art will. Give me a few hours maybe I can remember who abducted me or I will have a better clue.

The Third route is logically the best. We can't really deal with the enemey as is,and we'll lose less people if we are away from the enemy.

However, Charles Li, Despite you being Innocent, i cannot abide your foolishnes in this... You've just condemned how many good men to almost a sure death? Your Assurances that it wont happen again does not negate the past.
